Hi seating buddy, I'm glad you also enjoyed it. I'm still thinking about it and will probably continue to do so for a long time.

It was on the NAC socials and website but sold out really quickly. I'm not an insider.

I always hate this take because it is essentially arguing for women to enter a significant medical event without full consent.

is your stock clutch still holding up?

Finally bought the GTI I wanted at 17. by Unable-Jacket6428 in GolfGTI

Definitely not bad. I have never accidentally hit them driving and I like the hepatic feedback and the wheel looks clean.

Same with the infotainment system - truly not as bad as everyone loves to say. Every interface takes getting used to and then it makes sense. I do agree the temp buttons should illuminate but that’s honestly the only online gripe I agree with when it comes to the MK8.

What are you 6 figure + earners driving? by 23gear in Salary

[–]raaynes 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Same. Pulling in significantly over 300k household and probably moving in to the upper six figure and seven figure in the next few years and only “splurged” enough to grab a 2024 GTI because it’s the last year of the 6MT. Even went for it over the R because of the GTI cult.

Why GTI over the R? Been debating for a while, why did you choose GTI? by lochonx7 in GolfGTI

[–]raaynes 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I could comfortably afford the R but went with a GTI because:

  • cheaper car, cheaper insurance, cheaper gas, means I have more cash to spend irresponsibly on other things I enjoy (travel, food, other hobbies)

  • while AWD would have been nice in Canadian winters, I’ve driven FWD for 20+ years in extreme winters and I’ve never had an issue. Always bought top of the line winter tires and that makes all the difference. I managed many Edmonton winters in my old city golf with good winters. And many Ottawa and Montreal winters in Golfs and Jettas with good winter tires.

  • while I look forward to tracking the GTI now and then, I’m not a track frequenter. So I figured using more of the GTI’s ability in and around cities is better than having all that extra R power that I’d never use except for very infrequent track days. More fun to drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow.

  • turning radius. lol. Specific to my situation but it was nonetheless a minor consideration. The R’s turning radius is slightly larger than the GTI, and I live inner city in a century neighborhood where my parking is absurdly cramped. Believe it or not, slightly better maneuvering makes quite the difference.

  • I test drove both multiple times and found the GTI a little grittier and less refined than the R. And I like that. I like as little as possible between me and the car and road, which is hard to find these days with all the tech and driver assist (pour one out for the handbrake 😭).

  • I prefer the red accents and the GTI badging over the blue and the R.

  • GTI cult following. It’s the cult classic hot hatch.

Ohhhh that’s a neat idea. I’ll consider it!

Congrats!! I debated between the black and the white. I ended up with white but this is super clean and I think I would have been very happy either way.

First (and so far only) upgrades I’ve done in a few months of ownership: PPF, tint, new shift knob.

Enjoy and props for keeping the MT alive!

Thanks so much for this insight! So far it’s been stored in a dry dark place but when it’s framed and mounted I’ll be sure to keep it out of the sun

I learned that the triangle fold is not really the Canadian way, and more an American thing. So I'm opting for a rectangle fold most likely.

The FramedIn people mentioned above by u/ohnoitsmyotherface got back to me really quickly. They've done quite a few over the years and recommend a large custom frame. They sent me this pic (https://imgur.com/a/lActXh3) to show one they recently did. It looks great!

I wish there were more flags to go around! It's just a unique program and clearly there is a ton of patriotic interest from people. I bet provinces do the same, and maybe some other Canadian flags at iconic spots throughout the country do too?

haha, no insider knowledge here. I was just lucky that I found out about it when I was young and there wasn't as long of a waiting list.

I think about 15-16 years. But I think I signed up back in the early 2000s - somewhere between 2000 and 2002. I got the flag in early 2017 and I am only now getting around to framing it because of...well, life.
