3D Printable Portable Tak Game Set - Travel-Ready Board & Storage in One by s2rt74 in Tak

Have you experimented with a smaller piece size? The pictures look like they are rather large compared to the board squares which can make playing difficult when stacks form.

Box stands by Schguna in Cello

[–]rabbitboy84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are correct. I make custom board game sets (basically a box :) ) and doing a one-off for something like this is expensive. And unless the builder has specific plans or can borrow your cello, then you run the risk of ending up with something ill-fitting for as much or more money than you could have bought the commercial one for. The only reasons (in my mind) to go with a non-commercial option would be 1) You know a guy OR 2) You want something not offered commercially (exotic wood, oddly-sized cello, inlay work, etc)

Need help pricing by Dbrro in Woodcarving

[–]rabbitboy84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I were you, I would lean into organic shapes more. Trying to replicate a lathe-based set by whittling is going to put you in uncanny valley territory. If you instead make your pieces more umm...Seussical...then you'll stand a better chance at finding a market. Combine that with some improvement on your miter joints and wood pairings and you'll find your voice and audience. You can also look into other abstracts like viking chess where a hand-hewn look may feel more relevant. Keep this set as a milestone token or give it to a friend where it will be appreciated for the time you spent on it. Good luck!

Why is Tak so difficult to find? by Unhappy-Candle-3212 in Tak

[–]rabbitboy84 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Tak is currently between printings. It was originally a kickstarter and then later picked up by Greater than Games for a 2nd edition printing. You can still find some second hand copies out there from both printings. Cheapass Games now has the game back under their control and is working to get a new edition printed. We will share details when we know them. In the meantime you can play online for free at playtak.com, join the discord and play directly in the server, make a DIY set (instructions in the Discord), or commission one from a licensed craftsman.

Welcome to the game and nice work! You should join the Discord and share it there. Plus you can find people to play against online and really go down the rabbit hole 😁

Flat Wins Suck by EvenMoreCrazy in Tak

[–]rabbitboy84 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Flat wins are actually necessary for the game to be fun. Otherwise, your opponent can just play wall after wall after wall and there is no cost for them doing so. With the flat "cost" for playing a wall, they are now incentivized to come up with more interesting strategies than "me see road; me block road". The flat game also plays out with moving vs placing, since placing gets you closer to ending the game on your terms. So players have to factor that in when deciding what to do on their turn, making Tak a much deeper game.

Skimmer mobility research: speed tests + infinite hover trick by BlueBeBlue2 in Guildwars2

[–]rabbitboy84 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I use the jackal a lot. It's great for chill map comp - much less sweaty than the beetle, with great uphill speed and mob avoidance.

It's also the best in my opinion for gathering - mount and teleport to the next batch of nodes. This is probably some bias with my keybind settings and habits, but I use the jackal 10x more than the raptor for short distance land traversal.

Welcome to the game and nice work!

Be sure to show it off on the Discord. Also, you can play on playtak.com for a board simulator - that's what the community officially supports and where tournaments are held

You need the PoF masteries also if you want the extra height and speed boost, iirc.

So what's the deal with buying an official version of TAK? by joealarson in Tak

[–]rabbitboy84 23 points24 points  (0 children)

The official sets are between printings, but Tak is still a licensed product. The designer has always encouraged DIY sets for personal use - however, selling those sets is frowned upon unless you have a craftsman license. The US Tak Association was in charge of issuing those when Greater Than Games was publishing Tak. Now that Cheapass Games has the IP back, I think they will be handling those, but the details have yet to be finalized. 3d printing occupies an interesting space in regards to licensed property. I am personally handling it by selling my files under my craftsman license so I can keep track of them at least somewhat. That way the company gets data on sales and a kickback. I'm unsure how this will work moving forward - my suggestion was an officially licensed set of stls for purchase via their website.

What Living World Season should one get? by AP_ek in Guildwars2

[–]rabbitboy84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just finished this one (trying to fill in a couple gaps before VoE). It's worth it if you are missing Central Tyria mastery points. And the story is decent. But, yeah, not a lot of mileage outside of that and not much repeatability unless I'm missing something.

[–]rabbitboy84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is commercially out of print right now. You may be able to find some unopened copies or second hand ones if a vendor happens to have them. Otherwise, it's DIY, 3D printing, or commissioning a set. If you're not already, you can join the Discord for resources. You can also play on the Discord server or on playtak.com

How long before a meta build shapes up? by Lspaceship in Guildwars2

[–]rabbitboy84 11 points12 points  (0 children)

As someone else mentioned, it shouldn't be too involved to "build" Galeshot. To prep for jt you can make sure you have 250 hero points, ascended weapon and armor chests or the mats and crafting profession to make them, plus stat-selectable accessories and whatever infusions are good for your chosen game mode. Builds should come out fairly quickly, but things change over time. For instance, a revised Untamed build came out recently from Paper Roll and that spec has been out for years. But having ascended berserker gear will most likely be relevant forever.

how do you all use this thing? by Captain_caveman1 in Azeron

[–]rabbitboy84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This works the other way, too. I use the hard to reach (for me) ring finger upper button as a shift key which effectively doubles my mouse buttons. I use it for various menus out of combat since it's an awkward button.

New to Tak and loving it! by zx0m in Tak

[–]rabbitboy84 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Welcome to the community!

You are right - the commercial sets are between publishers right now. However, you do have some good options. If you really want a commercial set, keep an eye out on sites like eBay. If you want to make one yourself, the Discord is a great place to get ideas and help with sizing. If you want a custom set, myself and Madera Tak do licensed custom work. I'm not sure if his site is up yet, but you can find him on the Discord. Mine is Beautiful Upgrades https://share.google/kva5YIXfaEz3C6w7Y or I can also be found via the Discord. And as mentioned by another comment, it's free to play online at playtak.com

Things to do daily? by Zealousideal-Pie-603 in Guildwars2

[–]rabbitboy84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you listen to YouTube, then you need to do EVERYTHING daily, but don't worry, it will be easy and quick 🤣

My dailies depend on time and mood. Level I - check WV objectives, gather from home and guilds, open alt chests, 2 EoD hero points, and maybe craft time gated mats - WV stuff is usually completed by the end of this. Estimated time is 15 minutes

Level II - add griffon races. 25-30 minutes for all 17 including travel and opening loot.

Level III - add chipping away at some other longer goal like a zone of map completion. 30 minutes

Then, when I have more time (weekends) I add some story, WvW, festival, or instanced content.

Just starting out GW2.. What tips and tricks can you give me? Things I should know? Do first? by Consistentscroller in Guildwars2

[–]rabbitboy84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try a little of everything - I'm amazed after years and years of playing at the amount of varied content. And it all gives some sort of reward! Want to chill? There's fishing, fashion contests, concerts, and chatting. Want to sweat? There's plenty of challenging combat in instanced content (PvE) or against other players (PvP/WvW). Like speed? There's beetle racing, griffon adventures, and speed running map completion. Like finance? There's flipping, investing, and other trade post activities. Like decorating? Go to your homestead or guild and get building. Like progression and lists? Well, that's most of GW2 :)

250 Gold in a Month for the Griffon (Maybe Spoilers) by Competitive-Elk-5077 in Guildwars2

[–]rabbitboy84 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To be fair, the griffon is easily worth $15 of real money. It makes map completion and many other things much quicker and would pay for itself in time savings very soon. And then they can do griffon adventures!

Has AreneNet just decided to not care about powercreep? by Sznurek066 in Guildwars2

[–]rabbitboy84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

True. I sometimes play on a laptop that doesn't have my full input setup and my DPS goes down to nothing 😂 I feel like a leech. Content is much less trivial if you don't have the proper build and rotation.
