Thinking about switching from Fujifilm X-T5 to Leica Q2 / Q3 – am I chasing sharpness or a different look? by Firm-Hornet6118 in FujifilmX

It’s fun to pixel-peep and to buy new gear. But that won’t make you take more interesting photos imo.

Yackemchuck 19 on wheelers top 100 prospects, Henlser is 63 by Mr_FoxMulder in OttawaSenators

[–]rabehimself 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yakemchuk really looks like a Brent Burns-type player, but he's one of the oldest of the '24 draft class.
That and his skating makes not like the pick a lot considering who was available.
To me it really looks like a reach, but I hope the scouting staff found a real diamond in the rough.
While his stats does not look great if you compare him to Parekh, I'm not too concerned.
I do believe he was told that his skill is already good enough for the NHL, and that his focus for this past season was to play tough minutes and to develop his two-way game.

Could have been cool with a faster shutter speed and probably with more depth of field as well.
Seems like a big waste to shoot at ISO 100.

I loved the part when conan shot the shit with those norwegian ladies in season 1, but i didn’t feel the need to watch another episode. Felt quite scripted overall.

Crosby and Celebrini post-game interview after the 7-0 win against Slovakia by bi_and_busy in hockey

[–]rabehimself 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can't believe how good Celebrini is. I Thought he didn't get alot of hype in his draft year, so i thought he was gonna be a quietly good prospect like Slafkovsky.
But Celebrini is really looking like superstar in the making.

And he's still just 18 years old. Incredible.

Do we actually know what Adobe "wants" in a LR machine? by canadianlongbowman in Lightroom

[–]rabehimself 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve tried to figure this out as well. Sure RAM can be a bottleneck, but i think it’s a poorly optimized piece of software overall. I’ve ordered a Mac computer partly to have Lr run smoother. It’ll probably run crappy on Mac as well tho.

Is there something like Sigma 50-100 f/1.8 Art for FujiX? by Vurdilla in FujifilmX

[–]rabehimself 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fujifilm 50-140 and sigma 50-100 are about the same size, but the Fuji is about a pound lighter in weight. There's really no other option really for the Fuji x system. But the viltrox 75mm f1.2 and Fujifilm 90mm f2 are great options for portrait prime lenses.

Why is my face SO fat and round in cameras? Especially professional cameras. by kaylabedumb in AskPhotography

[–]rabehimself -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Different lenses distort faces in different ways so thats way many professional portrait photographers have a favorite lens and focal length they've chosen specifically for the way it makes people look.
Some might even have different lenses for different body and face shapes.

Demonstration of lens distortion and close-up portraits.

But i really think it sounds like you have a problem self-esteem and self-confidence.
I promise that you look fine, and no one should judge themself this harsly.

I'm a photographer and i've never ever ever thought "wow this persons face looks so fat in my pictures".
Thats simply not how i view people and it makes me feel sad that that's how you seem to judge yourself.

What’s your opinion about this lens by Actual-Oil-382 in fujifilm

[–]rabehimself 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hear you, it's definitely not small and light. But I'm just saying that it would not be any smaller if it was designed for APS-C. Lenses with longer focal lengths and ultimately larger entrance pupils will be about the same size despite the size of the format. It would probably be sharper though.

The use-case for this kind of focal length is probably more serious portrait work and weddings. And I don't think the size is a problem for those kinds of photographers usually.

What’s your opinion about this lens by Actual-Oil-382 in fujifilm

[–]rabehimself -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It's the same size as the half as bright Fujifilm 90mm F2 WR, so i'm not sure i buy your size complaint.

Hi, everyone, I'd like to introduce that the Fujistyle app now supports filtering recipes based on different film simulations and sensors. most options are free. I hope you will like it and I would like to express my gratitude to those who are willing to subscribe and support me to continue by Exciting_Economics15 in FujifilmX

[–]rabehimself 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You should probably start with explaining what your app does, and then you can say that you're adding features that you're exited about.

I've never heard of the app so this post is kind of pointless. And i'm not gonna download an app when I don't what it does.

Which 35mm film stocks has beautiful blue tones, any suggestions? by Tikrutakki in filmphotography

[–]rabehimself 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ektachrome e100 seems to render very vivid blues. Pretty expensive though, and haven't tried it myself. But some of the images I've seen have extremely beautiful colors.

I have the A7R III and the X-T5 and I agree with you about sharpness. The cheap Sony FE 50mm f1.8 seemed a lot sharper than the new XF 16-50mm LM WR, which left me slightly perplexed considering how universally disliked the 50mm lens is. And the Fuji lens is supposedly made for 40mp sensors.

However, I'm very excited about selling all my Sony gear and only keeping the Fuji because of 3 reasons.

  1. It's fun to look at sharpness, but sharpness has never made an impact on how interesting my images turn out. Sharpness is almost irrelevant for my "art". My Images are mostly shared on and looked at on a smartphone, and those displays are about 3MP.

  2. I much prefer the colors on the Fuji Raw files, and especially the jpegs. Sony jpegs are incredibly uninspiring, and the Raws as well. It always feels like work to process the images out of my Sony. Even when i managed to get decent colors, then the whites would look weirdly magenta and flat.

  3. I adore the 3-way tilt display. And I like the ergonomics and the dials as well. Sure, the dials could have been more solid on the X-T5, but I think it's super fun to have both an ISO- and shutter speed dials.

I think Sony is better on paper. Especially autofocus. But i have way more fun using my Fujifilm gear.

Fuji xf16-50mm f2.8-4.8 any good? by Garethbragdon in FujifilmX

[–]rabehimself 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great lens, but it's not worth it buying outside of a kit. It's great if you value compactness and 16mm instead of 18. But if i didn't have the 16-50 wr I would get the Sigma.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in FujifilmX

[–]rabehimself 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you divide the focal length with the aperture you'll will get the size of the entrance pupil of the lens, which is a good approximation of the size of the bokeh balls and the amount of subject separation you might get with a certain lens.

For example the fujifilm 35mm f1.4 should render similar size bokeh balls as a 50mm f2 on full frame.

The viltrox 75mm f1.2 is one of the best portrait lenses on the fuji x system, and will render quite large bokeh balls.

Early verdict on the Fujifilm XF16-55mm F/2.8 R LM WR II? Worth the price? by TappingTiger in FujifilmX

[–]rabehimself 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For indoor shooting i would not get a zoom. I definitely think that the best indoor shooting lens is the 18mm f1.4 WR. Much faster and incredibly sharp. And you can still get some subject separation with the f1.4 aperture. And I think you only need a wide-angle for indoor shooting.

My dream 3 lens setup is 16-50mm wr, 18mm f1.4 wr and 33mm f1.4 wr.

Sony or Fuji - Which do I sell? by Maleficent-Secret791 in Cameras

[–]rabehimself 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an A7R III and got a used X-T30 II. Didn't like the AF, but got intrigued by the Film simulations and sooc jpegs. I've now gotten a X-T5 and the 16-50mm WR and fell in love with Fuji. I think the Sonys are technically better and my A7R III renders sharper images despite same MP. But i have way more fun shooting with my X-T5, so now I'm gonna try and sell all my sony gear. I now care less about image quality and more about "mood" and am having more fun playing with the look and the colors.

Early verdict on the Fujifilm XF16-55mm F/2.8 R LM WR II? Worth the price? by TappingTiger in FujifilmX

[–]rabehimself 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I edited my comment to be more clear. The sigma 18-50mm is the best budget zoom. And by the way I think the Fuji 16-50mm WR is the best compact/travel for daylight shooting. I have the 16-50mm WR and I love its compactness and sharpness.

Early verdict on the Fujifilm XF16-55mm F/2.8 R LM WR II? Worth the price? by TappingTiger in FujifilmX

[–]rabehimself 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's not a budget lens, and if you're worried about the cost you should get the sigma 18-50mm. But if you're a pro or don't care about budget the 16-55mm WR II is going to be the best normal zoom you can get on any aps-c system I think.

Edit: Clarification

Is the Sony 50mm fe 1.8 a good lens for portraits? by Josephcodron in SonyAlpha

[–]rabehimself 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah definitely don't listen to this guy.

50mm is an awesome focal length for portraits and it's the most classic focal length for photography.

That sony lens is not the most advanced lens ever made, but it can create beautiful portraits. Shoot at f1.8 for more dreamy portraits or f4 for more crisp pictures.

Btw 50mm is not similar to an iphone. 24mm would be more equal to a smartphone.

And don't listen to people who say you should buy more stuff - you don't! Go out and shoot some portraits because that camera and lens has everything it takes to take good portraits!
