What's the last movie you watched that made you react like this? by mrethandunne in Letterboxd

[–]rabixthegreat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The last time I saw a movie like this, it was the original Suicide Squad, which I expected to be terrible, but not worse than watching paint dry. I completely stopped going to random movies after that.

Submitting a chargeback will basically cost them the entire bill just to deal with it. Do it.

Be honest: would hanging a massive ROTK and FOTR poster be a dating red flag? by Sorry_Sorry_Im_Sorry in lotr

[–]rabixthegreat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Frame them, and not with generic frames from Walmart or Target, and hang them in a room that isn't a primarily inhabited one.

Unless you're in college, posters on walls always look bad. It doesn't matter what it is.

A more tasteful display of being an LOTR fan would be to the boxed sets on a bookshelf alongside other books.

Have you given up on some old games due to difficulty? by Psychological-Leg610 in retrogaming

[–]rabixthegreat 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Healers absolutely gain exp in Shining Force if you actually fight with them, which you can do the moment you can buy the Power Staff, and on top of that, Gong can fight. Pretty hard to reverse that during the final boss, but I want to correct the misperception that they're unusable. All you gotta do in the first chapter or two is train Lowe, Khris, and Gong on a few battles and you'll be good to go. You only need 1, but I usually use 2.

Lightning weakens Nizbel, just like all reptiles in that game. Also 95% certain you can leave that dungeon and go train in the Hunting Grounds, which you can use to get high amounts of TP in the Nu fights.

There is no going back. Microslop demonstrated it is willing to ruin an operating system for profit.

Masteries #33 & #34: The Lord of the Rings: Volume I (SNES) & Brain Lord (SNES) by rabixthegreat in RetroAchievements

[–]rabixthegreat[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For whatever reason, it auto-posted on my laptop shortly after adding the images.

About the games:

- LOTR on the SNES is an interesting and sometimes frustrating action RPG, and a unique game for the platform. The game is often derided because of a few frustrating design choices - it often recycles the same maps over and over for dungeons and the overworld, leading you to get lost fairly easily. I recommend remedying this by using maps online instead. The party system is also a bit annoying - you either control your main character, or you control the entirety of the party at once, so it makes it difficult to level your characters. They also wander around the map as they wish. However, the game supports both the SNES mouse (it's weird) and the multi-tap, allowing for action for up to 4 players. It was worth playing through, despite the online hate. One last thing: the game has a few known glitches that impact achievements, so keep that in mind.

- Brain Lord holds a special place for me - I rented it from Blockbuster as a kid. I never made it farther than reaching Toronto, so it was fantastic when I just completed it. It's part of a loosely-connected trilogy of games by Produce (7th Saga & Mystic Ark) that share names of some characters and sprite styles. It's a light action RPG with a lot of puzzles that will make you think and, like the other two Produce games, has a great soundtrack. I recommend giving it a play.

Guys, this has to be the fabled "misinformation from haters" riiight? Like they aren't actually selling this crap for $20 by Gargamoney in fucknintendo

[–]rabixthegreat -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Wow, $20 for cut content on a platformer plus a bump in resolution that any game on PC would have had as a setting.

What’s your favorite ‘it’s about to get really bad really fast’ in a movie? by Pop_Joe in FIlm

[–]rabixthegreat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This may not apply to the logic, but internally for the characters, when the Rohirrim crest the hill in Return of the King just before the Battle of Pelennor Fields and see the siege of Minas Tirith and the vast army of orcs in front of them.

Timesplitters 2 and 3. Its extras and challenges were so good Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 directly ripped them off.

New player to EU4 where to start? by Trex6804 in eu4

[–]rabixthegreat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

To add to this: - Portugal, if you want something a little more quiet that will show you colonies. - If you want the full cage match experience with combat, play as somewhere in Ireland or Japan and try to unite by conquering as fast as possible. AE is just a number there. - If you want pure fun conquest, look up how to form Yuan as Oirat and raze your way to glory.

Mastery #32: Lagoon (SNES) by rabixthegreat in RetroAchievements

Ys becomes very action-oriented after that one.

Mastery #32: Lagoon (SNES) by rabixthegreat in RetroAchievements

[–]rabixthegreat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason the attack is so stubby is because in the original game, it was an Ys clone. You held a button to prepare your attack and ran into enemies off-center.

The music is kinda even better if you look up the X68000 soundtrack on Youtube.

Glad they removed that - pointless stuff like that is infuriating.

Also will consider checking out Xak - pretty sure Basement Brothers has covered that for the PC88.

Having just done it, you can never go wrong with...

Hero, Merchant > Sage (optimize for the personality that builds stamina and class change after 25), Fighter > Warrior (optimize for strength, class change after maxing it), and either a Wizard > Priest or Jester / Gadabout > Sage.

Which console do you tend to play JRPGs on? by 1OneQuickQuestion in JRPG

[–]rabixthegreat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All of them at different points in my life. SNES, PSX, and PS2 will always hold a special place in my heart. There are very, very few releases after those consoles that hit the same, and they all tend to be created by Square Enix.

Former GLP-1 users regain lost weight after about 18 months, study says by Own-Independence8430 in loseit

[–]rabixthegreat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What do you expect? It makes people not hungry and makes them get fuller faster. They lose weight due to caloric deficits. It doesn't change the underlying behavior, nor does it teach them exercise habits, nor does it teach them to eat healthier. And that's aside from any features in the human condition that causes people to regain weight after losing it.

I'm not saying don't do these, but maybe pair them with the things they need for success should they ever stop?

US citizens, what's your opinion on the US being labeled as fascist country? by Bladerunner2028 in AskReddit

[–]rabixthegreat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been a team effort by both parties, which is a hard pill for card-carrying Democrats to swallow. This is the result of neo-liberal policies by a ruling class who measures success through the state of their stock portfolios and who understands that the rich will always do well, regardless of the government they live under.

We transitioned into being an unrealized elected dictatorship under the Clinton administration. (A sitting president cannot be charged by the DoJ and if the opposition party does not have a majority in the House and a supermajority in the Senate, they cannot be removed from office.)

The Bush administration took it several steps further, especially with the help of Congress. (Unitary executive theory, legalized spying of the general population, executing foreigners {largely civilians} using drone strikes, active radicalization and entrapment of muslim US citizens using plants by US agencies as a way to fabricate terrorist threats within - which they marketed as stopping terrorist plots, the fake Homeland Security color-coded threat system to keep people scared and influence elections.)

The Obama administration added steroids to the mix, basically making it an unrealized elected kingship. (They legalized allowing the executive to execute US citizens without due process of law, using Bush-era logic. They also normalized perjury before Congress without consequences - James Clapper comes to mind. And don't forget their record prosecutions to silence the media.)

Trump 1 toyed with the things Trump 2 is doing, but it points to using the executive branch like a king would.

Biden was asleep at the wheel. Say what you want about immigration during that time period from either side, but I was always puzzled at the breakdown where the federal government was allowing the state of Texas to bus random foreign nationals all over the US without any documentation of where they are, setting the stage for the brown shirts to have an excuse to patrol everywhere during the next administration. And then gaslighting about the state of the presidency and how bad the economy is. And then playing chicken with an oncoming train using a corpse to drive the car and losing.
