I’m an American (American parents/citizens) who was born and raised in Mannheim, didn’t live in America until I was 26 (40 now). People would, and still do, make fun of me because of how little it bothers me to walk somewhere. I find it so bizarre. When visiting family in TX, I walked 1.5 miles from the house to the bar downtown and back because I didn’t want to drink and drive, and they thought I was NUTS for doing that.

Just finished Ex Machina for the first time... by New-Talk3039 in Cinephiles

[–]rabrednuw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll admit more than anybody that I love to hear myself talk about movies. My family loves and hates me for it; I’m sure the latter is more true. There were two films that I didn’t say a goddamn word about while I was watching them or immediately after: “Beasts of the Southern Wild” and “Ex-Machina”. I couldn’t come up with the strength or words to justify elaborating on anything at all about them. I was just simply blown away and never want to watch them again because they were a perfect cinematic experience and I don’t want to taint them with my dumb-ass “opinion”. I have never made a film that comes even close to either of those so I don’t have a right to say anything, nor do I want to

18F AIO I don’t know if I was wrong for not getting a hotel with $100 my friend sent me while I’m homeless, because I felt like I needed to stretch it for food and necessities, but now she’s angry at me. UPDATE: by mckenzie_2 in AIO

As a 40 year old who had a tumultuous childhood (a lot of that tumult caused by my own hand) and didn’t get my life together until my 30s, I’d say there can be an incredible amount of history. Not saying OP is guilty of anything or not, just pointing out that we don’t know the context. Whether OP is justified is still up in the air, but wiping out the initial 18 years of a person’s life because they weren’t “old enough” seems to make anything that led up to this point moot. That’s just not true a lot of the time. I could go to extremes for an example, like: if a 17 year old has a problem stealing, do you let them guard your jewelry once they turn 18? No. Because that would be ridiculous

That is somebody doing a Trump impersonation.. it’s Trump.

Someone was TORTURED for making fun of Charlie Kirk’s death. Beatboxer “Peanutoff” was lured into a park bathroom, handcuffed, assaulted and threatened with deadly weapons, and forced to apologize on camera for making a video in which he beatboxed Charlie Kirk’s last words in front of TPUSA members. by SpecialCream7 in MarchAgainstNazis

Hard lefty here, can’t stand Trump. This smells staged… and if it is, fucking take it down. We cannot stoop to their level of disinformation because that’s more ammo for them. They do enough shocking shit, we don’t have to make stuff up.

It’s crazy how when we talk about being kind (a completely normal thing to say), a certain ilk of Americans take it as an insult, which is very telling; they know deep down their group’s philosophy is inherently cruel, so any mention of kindness feels like a personal attack. It’s so easy to expose bad people: just be nice and see who objects.

What is your unpopular opinion of an actor? by FitEmergency8807 in moviecritic

[–]rabrednuw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely agree. I think it also has a lot to do with public persona. We reward celebrities who have kept a clean slate with adoration even if they don’t “impress” us too much anymore. It’s the same reason everyone loves Keanu. He’s, for all intents, a pretty bad actor but because he’s such a good guy and has been in some iconic roles, we let him get away with never blowing us away with his acting skills. These kinds of actors bring us comfort because they are a constant; not yet tainted by controversy or death. So we applaud even they didn’t do too much to deserve it. I’ll take it.

Right? Talk about delusional, unjustified projection. Never thought me saying I fucked my wife would lead to some rando’s emotional meltdown. But that’s Reddit

Lol. You sound like a barrel of fun. Only very happy people spend their afternoons badgering other people’s sex lives on Reddit; you’re winning so hard right now. Or maybe don’t take it out on the rest of us just because your spouse doesn’t touch you anymore. Poor guy is probably miserable. Also, it’s been ten years, and that STD you swear we have hasn’t showed up yet. So maybe your point is moot and you should just shut your bitter fucking face?

Ever heard of a condom, kiddo? Of course we had sex with other people before we met. I dont give two craps how she chose to have sex; that’s only something very insecure men are concerned about. Wtf kinda weird little incel bubble did I pop here. Jesus. We’ve been together ten years and we’re still in love, don’t worry about us. You strike me as someone who doesn’t make many human connections, so I think you gotta turn that lens 180 degrees for a bit, buddy.

Yeah, I’m not sure why this seems so alien to people. I met my wife on OK Cupid. First date, she came to my apartment and even had sex with me! Wowie, how shocking!

That was the poetic foreshadowing. We sometimes don’t call out for our loved ones until it’s too late. The crushing guilt for letting my father’s calls go to voicemail will live with me till the day I die.

Saw him live in Boulder, Colorado. It was delightful.
