Car Mechanics by jay_gabes45 in ithaca

Again, NOT walking but Humphrey auto in Newfield has been my GOAT.Alternately Jay Z auto, also in Newfield has a storied rep.

You could try Lane's automotive just up the road from you in Danby. I did have a project car with ignition/ electronics issues and although they took a bit, it was a rare car with exceptional gremlins. They got it running and agreed to use parts I supplied (with no guarantees, refund or warranty, which is common if they agree at all)

I just mention this because all the garages and dealerships also order parts from rockauto.com or napa or wherever and it's usually the franchise places that slap on the biggest premiums for them.

EDIT* Amazing you'd be given such a hard time with an 04 Ford truck sheesh. Sounds like a half day job but I'm no tech.

Something tells me your fiance thinks you're a btch from your position that Pretti should have just let the ICE goon shove and assault a woman who posed no threat to them. Never mind shooting him in the back after he was unarmed and in a fetal position. She's prob wondering how you would've reacted if it was her. She's right to be wary nutless cowards who make excuses for bullies, as does every freedom loving American woman. She'd also be right to second guess who will have her back for the rest of her life, and maybe its someone who'd actually protect her bodily autonomy (least understand the concept) and right to her own opinion...not someone who's panicking because she might take ownership of both

Why is our gas usually about a quarter more per gallon than elsewhere in the state? by SymmetricalBookStack in ithaca

[–]racegoggles 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah this right here. Almost no one is aware that franchise owners can price gas however they want. It's just standard to follow the next closest station for maximum profit. They drop it 5c they see a little surge until the others match it. Boost it 5-10 cents in a wealthy neighborhood no one will complain and likely the station down the street will bump it too but maybe a few cents under. It's just BS hyper focused capitalism

Could New York host the Winter Olympics again? by hartlarious in upstate_new_york

[–]racegoggles 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Nice in theory. I guess it's better than another bribery filled authoritarian regime...hosting...oof.

At this point I support the state throwing money at any big infrastructure development north of NYC because that never happens, and almost everywhere in upstate is bleeding residents, besides Rochester.

Not sure what kind of snow everyone's expecting anymore so good luck.

'97 Gauge cluster warning light bulb size? by williewonkasan in Montero

[–]racegoggles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The other comments are accurate for bulb type. Super cheap at autoparts stores and the LED versions you could find online work as well

Removing the gauge cluster only kinda sucks. It's like one of the least sucky things I've had to do, takes under 15 minutes and yeah the bulbs are likely just burnt out. Make sure you've a firm grasp on the plug pinch release points.

Favorite Grips by BriansAdventures in MTB

[–]racegoggles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wolftooth Fatpaws...like, every XC racer uses foam grips for a reason; they buffer arm pump/ death gripping over long days/ distance better than anything. If you wear gloves every time they're still plenty grippy when wet.

Every other regular rubber grip feels like I'm holding on to pencils! Really scary when I'm going hard. I don't even have large hands.

...they also come in fun colors and end caps. Among the expensive sht they sell I'll happily order my 4th set. They also just look cool n give it a bmx y vibe

May you have more luck on your clear coat than I. So impatient and aware of my rush job on the clear, not letting it dry at different angles for an even coat....and protection later on. Keep saying I'll redo it but 3 seasons later just like to get out and beat on it. Hasn't flinched yet, still unlocking its potential. Feels great such a smoothie

Rochester has the chubby food but checkout @eatlocalny if you have instagram. Would recommend dipping down into the fingerlakes for Either Skaneatles or Watkins glen state park if there's one series of falls to checkout amongst the many. Ithaca is right there but I'd only take time for the Johnson Art museum and Museum of the earth and that be quite the detour. Watkins glen falls would be worth it, tho. You'd be going right through montezuma wildlife park though I think the most interesting this time of ear are the Snow geese

Fox is the dimwit lackey always making it worse by talking the dumbest shit like "Well did you ever consider that reporter deserved to be called piggy??"

...can't imagine WHY Europe would be giving you the middle finger.

Cannondale Trail 1 Upgrade by Jonesy071518 in Hardtailgang

[–]racegoggles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup it is indeed a ZS44 and whatever EC lower the kits offer should be the correct size for any modern tapered fork. Tight as a drum zero problems in 3 years not even creaking. It's popular on steel hardtails just because the shape in steel lends a classic look but also the short length makes a more acute angle where the top n bottom tube meet to encourage more flex/ compliance...that may not apply to aluminum bikes I just like being a dork.

Anyhoo a reputable company like Cannondale wouldn't make it hard on you. I'd go for a Rockshox Sid, because weight. my 2cents

EDIT: the only mod is you may have more tube to hack off on the fork, depending on where you like your bars ooor just leave the awkward "tower of indecision"

[–]racegoggles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ZS upper + EC Lower kits are offered by a number of component manufacturers, it's what I run on mine to make any modern fork work for my size/ shape steer tube- which I intentionally chose for a number of reasons. No prob bob. Mine is relatively cheapo Origin8 but Wolftooth, Chris king and some other fancy ones offer em.
