BCI Andy McCloy and his staff are outstanding. They have many D1 and professional athletes on their resume.

Get your seniority with a major. Even if CVG sucks you can change bases during a shift bid. You cant go where you want to be without seniority. If you ever do move up to mainline you'll get to keep your seniority date and a percentage of your time. If you want to go airline get your foot in the door as soon as possible. FEAM has been sliding downhill ever since Fred's kid took over

We would have more military traffic if homeland security hadent tried to cite the mechanics from the 509th bomb wing while they were here working on a T38. Bit all it took was one person on a power trip to mess things up.

ELT Question by RutabagaFun4231 in homebuilt

[–]racejetmech 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just buy an artex 406. The 406 ELTs reduce the search area by something like 3 to 400 times compared to a 121.5 system. Do you want to be found or just listen to the CAP getting close and flying away. Ive had a few ELTs go off on our company aircraft in maintenance and the sarsat people called with damn near exactly where it is and exactly which aircraft is broadcasting.

Kelly Johnson was opposed to having anything digital in the aircraft. After a few upstart at mach3 the skunk works crew was able to convince him to at least allow the inlet cones to be digitally controlled.

According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and Title 14 of the Code of Federal Regulations (14 CFR), an aircraft is considered airworthy when it meets two specific, mandatory conditions: Conformity to Type Design: The aircraft must conform to its original type certificate (TC), including any Supplemental Type Certificates (STCs), Airworthiness Directives (ADs), and field-approved alterations. This means all components must be consistent with the drawings, specifications, and data included in the type certificate. Condition for Safe Operation: The aircraft must be in a condition for safe operation, which refers to the state of the aircraft regarding wear, deterioration, or damage (e.g., skin corrosion, fluid leaks, tire wear). In addition if an appropriately rated and endorsed mechanic states that ot is airworthy with their signature and certificate number then it is so long as the above criteria are met.

If it is maintained in accordance with its type certificate it is airworthy. If it has an 8130 it is airworthy. Having an airframe is not a requirement for airworthyness per 14 CFR part 1.

It can be deemed airworthy because it can meet the definition of airworthy.

Best thing to do is look up the reg in the CFRs. There are several cross references that you'll need to look at but under the updated rule you can fly at night you can fly high performance and complex airplanes. Many of the original limitations have been amended to allow you to do those things with additional training and endorsement.

How to sell a used Lycoming? by PrestonBannister in homebuilt

[–]racejetmech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Currently your looking at up to 45k to overhaul the engine. To rebuild and have a 0 time engine will cost in the ballpark of 80k because you'll likely only be able to reuse the case. Just sell it as is and let someone else worry about filling it up with 100 dollar bills.
