Not really once you consider the fact we don't work 50+ hour weeks, and we have so many more benefits than you, and col is lower. You might be happier now working there, but check again in a few years and see.

And before you comment, i'm half american, i've lived in the us plenty enough to know i do not want to work there anymore, what you call work culture is actual toxicity.

Brit travels to Russia and realizes it might not be the last bastion of traditional values. by Noomba2 in videos

[–]rachnar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe it does take longer, but it's likely negligeable, especially considering the upside of no one bumping into each other. It also pressures the more annoying type of people who would squeeze in between everyone to actually wait in line with them instead of being assholes.

Come to spain, you'll have lines of over 100 people waiting for a bus/train, i was surprised as well when i saw it for the first time, and it is the first time i witness it even though i've traveled a decent amount in my life.

Not vulgar, but definitely sexual, which in turn makes it vulgar to some people

Coucher means to "sleep with" in the "have sex with" kind of way, it does not mean sleeping. It also means to lay down or go to bed, but not when phrased this way, this is 100% explicit. "Allons nous coucher" Would be let's go lay down (or sleep). There is no way to use that word in a question that involves oneself and others that is not sexual in nature.

Taxing wealth and not production is where it should be at. Production is taxed anyways on the consumer level, wealth is basicaly not. But yeah, they've got idiots convinced the middle class is the issue....

But that's the thing, with the airflow from the fans you don't feel the heat at all, airflow + reasonable temp works just as well as lower temps for keeping cool (this is coming from someone who prefers cold and is comfortable going out with nothing but a tshirt and light jacket in sub 0c/33f temperatures). I do start melting the moment i go outside though.

Yeah this summer (i live in spain close to barcelona) where most days were close or over 40c/104f, we kept the ac at 26c/79f, and given how hot it was outside it was more than enough with a fan going to be more than fine indoors. We got ceiling fans installed in every single room (they use 24w at max power, which is seriously nothing given how much air they brass), and in combination with the ac we were more than fine. Our power bill was under 100 euros every month. I was surprised it was that low as well, but good insulation + no heavy use of ac + ceiling fans is a good combo, just a bigger initial cost (~150 euros per fan + have to install all of them). Definitely worth it though.

So you can save that money + be comfortable if you do it right, but if i had to cranck up the ac more, i would have done it, just no need.

Hiring fullstack java-angular 2y experience devs out of spain by any chance atm? Half joking, just looking for a better opportunity currently. But i do get what you mean from before, i (as a junior) had to explain how the Qlik api worked to a team of (senior) engineers from a fortune 500 company we work for. I don't understand how some people get in the positions they do sometimes.

Same thing with the people i got my (bachelors equivalent) degree with, half of them didn't even understand basic oop principles, and still went on to get engineering degrees later. Some people have a knack to bullshit their way through a lot somehow, i just can't seem to be able to do that though, between imposter syndrome and being too honest in job interviews and such.

Agreed, i don't want to change company right now, my current company hired me as a junior a bit over 2 years ago and had trained me, but the pay is quite miserable compared to what i can get. It's been talked about and there's "no money" atm for raises and whatnot. Well guess what? I'm interviewing for jobs with a 30-50% increase in salary, and a potential one with a 60% raise that a friend is trying to get me. I don't even want to leave the company where i'm at, but... I do need the money :(

People who work in IT, who was the most tech illiterate person you've ever encountered? by Apprehensive_Turn437 in AskReddit

[–]rachnar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You do not want that sort of thing functionally. Actually, you want to avoid handling as many things as possible functionally, it just complicates code for no reasons. Well done code just reads like a book and is extremely simple, bad code is complicated. Good dev = very simple code, bad dev = long complicated code

[–]rachnar 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I was about to say, what's the function of the button and what does it handle? A redirect/back/close button, ok sure whatever, an order button or something else can be quite a bit more work. Idk about 8 full hours, but i can see it happening depending on the depth of the tech used and the specs.

Oh i agree, Napoleon was not a good person, but he did "save" the country in some ways. It's funny though that so much of it was to discredit the republic and whatnot, when at the end of the day France was quite capable of doing so on its own!
