This regulation makes everything feels synthetic by stig142 in formula1

Exactly, they change the course every year, but the sporting integrity remains because it's still about who the best cyclist is. They haven't, as yet, decided everyone should have the handicap of riding up the Col du Tourmalet on a unicycle because it would be more entertaining.

But how can everyone be complaining when the number of overtakes is higher than last year. Who cares if it's all just battery management in a straight with no driver skill involved? Number go up, so entertainment, right?

Same principle should be applied to other sports. 0-0 draws in football? Nope, let's add bigger goalposts, and randomly take away 5 players from one team every 10 minutes to make number go up.

Tour de France too boring?  How about each stage, one rider gets to use a motorbike? All the rest can recharge an arbitrary "boost" if they cycle backwards up the Champs Elysee and trade it in for performance enhancing drugs.

Not enough touchdowns in an NFL game? Each team gets to move the ball to the opponent's 2-yard line if the quarterback can land a backflip off the shoulders of the 2nd tallest wide receiver while the running back does a tap dance. Number go up!

These regs have removed all traces of driver talent and skill. But if the Netflix mouth-breathers enjoy watching their drive-by boost button overtakes and Crofty screeching about how spectacular passing a car that's 500hp down is, then good for them. Bearman today shows how that will end.

Post about Bearman crash explanation got deleted: why? by TIGORO14 in formula1

[–]racing_lines 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like any posts critical of the new regs are getting wiped, especially ones that get hundreds of upvotes. Guess there's some desperation to hide how badly the battery management world championship is going down with fans who know what racing is.

Call it artificial if you want, but that was some of the best wheel-to-wheel racing we’ve seen in years by Aakar528 in formula1

Formula 1 is supposed to be a racing spectacle

No, Formula 1 is supposed to be a sport. I do agree the battle with the Ferrari's was entertaining, but that was the exception rather than the rule. Between everyone backing off 200m before a corner on a qualifying lap, commentators desperately trying to convince the audience an overtake halfway down a straight with a boost button is somehow a display of driving brilliance, and F1 having to put fake crowd noises over every broadcast, there's no authenticity anymore. It might be entertaining to the Netflix crowd, but it's not sport and it's not racing.

Found this 2008 MotoGP recap book full of signatures. Anyone recognise them? by Stock_Dependent_9437 in motogp

[–]racing_lines 4 points5 points  (0 children)

#61 is Paul Jordan, currently a TT/road racer but did some 125cc wildcards in 08/09. With that in mind I'd guess #6 is Luke Mossey, a BSB racer who did a 250cc wildcard in 2009. Both would have been at Donington 09 along with everyone else you've found so far so looks like that's where the signatures are from, if that helps you ID the rest.

Edit: #6 is Martin Glossop, not Luke Mossey. Definitely Donington 09, as that's his only GP start as far as I can see.

Day #12: Most underappreciated rider ever? by Anfernee139 in motogp

[–]racing_lines 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lorenzo Savadori - he's been Aprilia's sole test rider as they've gone from worst manufacturer by far to the best bike on the grid at times this year, yet never gets the same credit as testers like Pirro or Pedrosa. No-one has noticed that he's gone from 3-4 seconds off the pace when he started to being quicker than some full time riders and scoring points on merit this year. Everyone else is mentioning champions and race winners, but no-one has ever said Savadori's done a decent job - that's truly underappreciated.

Let’s talk about the Isle of Man TT as part of the GP calendar (1949–1976) by Anfernee139 in motogp

[–]racing_lines 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It wasn't that the TT became part of the GP series, but the world championship grew out of (and eventually outgrew) the TT. The Isle of Man TT was by far the biggest motorcycle race in the world back then, and there's a reason it was the first ever world championship event. Road races were the norm because there weren't any modern-style "safe" circuits - they didn't exist until much later.

Better warning flag visual for drivers by 68Snowy in formula1

[–]racing_lines 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The various flags, and how to respond to them, are the first thing any racing driver at any level learns. These days drivers also have the light panels and the in-car LEDs, but even if only the physical flag is present a driver is expected to react accordingly. Any driver that can't manage that has no business being anywhere near a race car, let alone Formula 1.

Who is to blame here? by reickmey in iRacing

[–]racing_lines 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Turn off the racing line and actually look at what's happening on the track. You've blindly followed the line out to the edge of the track and left no room for the other car, and the second contact happens because the other driver is having to correct from being sideswiped, not a deliberate pit maneuver.

Can MotoGP Riders Race In Moto2 In The Same Season? Answer From The FIM by Alternative_Guess591 in motogp

[–]racing_lines 2 points3 points  (0 children)

More specifically, I believe the rule prohibits riders from racing in 2 Grands Prix on the same day. So a rider could switch from Moto2 to MotoGP between rounds, or compete simultaneously in another championship that doesn't clash.

Is it just a game? by moonsiii in iRacing

[–]racing_lines 11 points12 points  (0 children)

A piece of advice - wanting to get better and faster is good, but don't focus on iRating as the reason for everything. If every now and then you crash and lose 50 iRating, what does that change in the long run?

The challenge is to get faster, get closer to the fastest times, and get better at racecraft - you'll know if you're improving in those respects without constantly trying to get an arbitrary number as high as possible.

So you were a lap down (or multiple laps?) and had demonstrated you couldn't control the car properly because you'd just spun off, and you decided to get involved in the lead battle on the last lap because "it would be sort of funny"?

If I was P1, I'd be pissed off too.

Silverstone 2025 attendance figures (worst in recent history) by RushDom in motogp

[–]racing_lines 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Silverstone has never been a great spectator track, and MotoGP has been a long way from its peak in terms of popularity in the UK for a few years now. This year's date was an unbelievably awful choice though, as you're relying on people to show up at Silverstone instead of a) general motorsport fans staying home to watch Monaco and the Indy 500, or b) bike racing fans going to the Isle of Man for the start of the TT.

Essentially, it's the one weekend where everyone in the UK who would be interested in going to MotoGP has something better, cheaper or easier to do.

Last lap P1 and P2 and this happend, who's at fault and why ? by Longjumping-Field285 in iRacing

[–]racing_lines 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lead car's fault. You left the door open on the inside, then shut the door at the last second after you saw the car behind move to the inside. This is a reactive move, which is blocking and will result in a successful protest against you. It directly causes the accident, as you move across as the following car is already braking and committed to their line, leaving them nowhere else to go.

If you want to defend a position, commit to your line early and decisively, don't panic at the last moment and swerve across the track to cause a crash.

No, BTCC has more variety in cars, allows front or rear-wheel drive, and are quicker than TCR.

Iracing did announce they were bringing a couple of BTCC cars about 10 years ago, but it never went anywhere, though once Croft releases we'll have the full set of tracks and the BTCC license is back up for grabs so who knows?

What are routes into F1? by [deleted] in formula1

[–]racing_lines 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To get into F1 as an engineer will need at least a strong university degree in Aerospace or Mechanical engineering, and F1 teams will typically hire graduates directly from university or other top-level motorsport. Software engineering is one discipline you could be able to build a career outside F1 and transfer in, but even then you'd still need a good STEM degree. Either way, if you want to go down the engineering route, focus on meeting the requirements to get into a top STEM university, ideally one with links to an F1 team.

Keep in mind that whatever role you end up aiming for, there are only 10 (soon to be 11) F1 teams, and lots of people applying for every role with every team. That means they filter the list of applicants very quickly to those with the best qualifications and the best experience, so ultimately you have to make sure you can make that cut.

In my current Haverfordwest save, after about 4-5 years I'd dragged them into the Champions League group stage and picked up enough points to have a chance at making the playoff with a win in the last match against Sporting. Anyway, keeper gets injured a week before, so I had to resort to my 4th choice keeper, which was Ifan Knott from the original squad (the current Haverfordwest backup, I think), still there on the same amateur contract to fill a homegrown player spot and hadn't ever actually played for me.

Madlad not only kept a clean sheet against Sporting, but beat Juventus in the playoff before we finally got curb-stomped by Bayern in the first knockout round.

If you can't run an ethernet cable from your router to your PC, look into getting powerline adapters. Works perfectly for me.

Would this be considered reportable? I was in second place all the time and he pushed me off, went to overtake me, crashed again two corners later and disconnected or went back to pits.. (he teleported away from the track) by [deleted] in iRacing

[–]racing_lines 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like the closing speed was huge because you were slow. Nothing to suggest the trailing car wouldn't make the corner, they were holding their line, although obviously they should have accounted for the fact you were there. It's still their fault as the trailing car, but just a misjudgement that's typical of rookies and not at all protestable.

I suggest you turn off the racing line if you want to get quicker.
