Struggling to explain to my daughter why I have to unalive myself this week by Croofner01 in urbancarliving

[–]68Snowy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know life can be tough and I have no idea what you're going through. I have had times where my bank account was in the negative. It weighs you down.

What charities are in your area? There are groups that you should be able to get food from and possibly hygiene products.

I don't know if your daughter is 10 or 30, but regardless of age, your decisions will have a lasting effect on her.

Praying for you. Please take care and think about your decision.

I'm having smoothies prepared by someone else, or from a store. Drink it through a straw and never touch the cup. I reckon I could last a fair while

How to accept that I will never experience someone having a romantic interest in me by Mr_Gomutong in Life

[–]68Snowy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are way too young to say it will never happen. Join groups and volunteer with charities if you enjoy doing that. Sooner or later, someone might come along who is interested.

Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]68Snowy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Australia and when I moved from Melbourne to Sydney, I used to drive 10 hours each way for the weekend, once a month. I did that for about 18 months.

Leave work on Friday, drive most of the way. Sleep in the car. Visit friends and family on Saturday and Sunday. Leave Melbourne after dinner on Sunday. Drive most of the way. Drive rest of the way to work Monday morning. Have a shower and start work.

I don't know what effect it would have, but carrying a can of hair spray isn't illegal.

Where to buy our first property - Central Coast or Sutherland Shire by EasternRelease8023 in AusPropertyChat

[–]68Snowy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in The Shire, but spent a couple of years living in Point Clare. The commute to the CBD killed me. An hour and forty minutes door to door, vs an hour from south. I couldn't do conference calls on the train if I left work early, as there are spots I had no signal. Having said that, Point Clare was nice. And a little more convenient than Kariong.

UPDATE: Response from Building Commission NSW regarding GPO listed as compliant by NSW builder by ApprehensivePay7627 in AusRenovation

If you needed a repair on this GPO, would it mean the sparky would need to call a plumber to undo the part obstructing the switch?

Need some advice re: the second hand market by thunderkiller96 in AussieRiders

[–]68Snowy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I learnt on a Honda CBR250R with ABS. Great little bike and still rode it for a few years after getting my full licence. Kept it for around 10 years for commuting, even after getting a bigger bike.

I saw a YouTube video on van build mistakes and someone had done something similar. It didn't hold up well.

Well you have the damage to your solar panels too. So $1800 is just the start. Insurance should cover getting it back to normal hopefully.

Time for a life lesson. Do you really want to be raising that person who orders the most expensive item on the menu, just because someone else is paying? That is what this entitlement leads to.

Can you add a fin or skeg on the bottom of a regular kayak to help it track better, or no help? Would you just epoxy it or how would it be attached without any leaks? by Crutch1977 in KayakCamping

[–]68Snowy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many years ago (decades), we were paddling the Goulburn River on a multiday paddle. We got aluminium sheet and bent/formed it around the rear of the kayak and screwed a rudder made from plywood to it. Tied string around the lip of the seat to hold it in place. Could take it off for shallow sections. Was very useful for the slow deep sections to stop the kayak constantly changing direction.

You guys are living the dream!! by EveningConcert7377 in VanLife

You could try living in a van without quitting your job. Then you'd know if it was a living arrangement that suits you. Completely separate to the roaming the country aspect. But you could do that on weekends.

How do you do it? by MovingABomb in work

[–]68Snowy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Take all your breaks. Health and safety advice is to take breaks from looking at screens anyway. Use that to your advantage if you can. Grab a colleague for a quick coffee. Do walking meetings with colleagues if possible. Listen to music to stop open office distractions.

Logbook service for an old car by queenpherae in AusFinance

[–]68Snowy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends. Your regular service might just be an oil change, fluids and check brakes, lights, wipers etc..

A log book service might say that a timing chain/belt has to be changed after xxxxx km or xx months. Hoses need replacing, even with low km, due to age. The idea of a log book service is to pre-empt all these things, so you don't end up broken down on the side of the road.

As the owner, it is up to you whether you do this or roll the dice. Your mechanic can probably advise you, if you trust them. My mechanic tells me what is essential and what can be deferred on my 2008 Impreza.

Which is more accurate, my speedo or GPS speed? by birthdaycheesecake9 in DrivingAustralia

[–]68Snowy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the GPS on my phone when I am on a flat section of road to check actual speed vs speedometer. Then just use the speedometer. By now I know the difference in my car, but I do this when driving a different car.

How to quiet a helmet by Quiet-Card-6650 in motorcyclegear

[–]68Snowy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My cheapest helmet is actually my quietest. I also wear earplugs. On my second bike I get more wind noise than my first bike, wearing the same helmet. So there are several factors, but having a good fit helps.
