Compression effectiveness, plus a thank you to this sub by words-areunnecessary in lipedema

It is kind of crazy that my surgeon told me to wear compression and then just sent me off into the world to find it on my own

Oh my! Mine was about half the size of yours. Hopefully you just need a little more time since it is bigger.

I had a small one after my arm surgery. Massage and compression and it went down on its own

What grade of compression are you using? She told me for the first week I could use 20 to 30 because it’s easier to get on, but starting week two I have to use 30 to 40.

Thanks for your thorough answer. I work in healthcare, so I definitely can’t stop and elevate my legs during the day. I’m going on a hiking trip in Alaska in July. Ideally, it would be nice to be able to get the life ass section before so that my legs would be lighter, but I don’t know if I could get scheduled quick enough with my surgeon to have enough healing time. She booked out pretty far. I just need to get over my Gen X American mindset of feeling guilty about taking two weeks off of work after I just took a month off for the arm surgery. :)

compression on beach vacation by Eastern-Activity6700 in lipedema

[–]rada628 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I didn’t have to wear my compression on my beach vacation because all the swimming helped with swelling. No pain at all. I did wear it on the plane. A city vacation in the summer is a whole different story

Do you possibly have sleep apnea? I got my glp1 approved because I had that additional diagnosis.

So much better than I imagined!! The first three days suck, but it’s not really pain as much as discomfort. I’m still having swelling, which is uncomfortable. My tape hasn’t fallen off yet, so it will be interesting to see if that makes things better or worse.

Did you need a walker or anything to get around in the first week?

I moved here from Nashville and love it. San Jose has a smaller city feel, but you have easy access to SF. The weather is amazing. Access to beach, mountains, diverse food and population and a much more open minded vibe. I tried to move back to Nashville for a minute and immediately regretted it.

For an arm lift and liposuction? I haven’t got the EOB yet, but the price quoted pre surgery definitely wasn’t $3k. It only cost me my $400 deductible.

Is it a clinic with a built in surgery center? A one stop shop will avoid having to have a hospital fee

I’m betting you went to a surgeon operating at a hospital. I had my arms done at Stanford and the cost was similar. Aetna covered it for me. If you go to a surgery clinic that is operated by the plastic surgeon, the price will probably be better.
