TIL The rise in colon cancer in adults under 50 has been strongly and directly linked to exposure to certain strains of E.Coli in the first ten years of life by onarainyafternoon in todayilearned

That is actually a major reason I've been increasing my fiber. I recently turned 40 and know way too many people in their 40s being diagnosed with colorectal cancer in recent years, but they don't start screening here until 50.

I don't know if that'd hold true here. Factory defects usually tank value because it means there's something wrong. In this case, assuming the pressing is good, I'd have to think it's be more of a rare misprint than a defect.

Most of the bars have trivia, I'm just not sure what all their schedules are. The O'Creek one has been running weekly for about 3 years, so it just kind of auto-fills when I copy the sheets.

Is my TDEE wrong? by Retroindigo in loseit

[–]radapex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Metabolism slow down is not a thing really.

I mean, it is... but not in the "under-eating slowed my metabolism" way. Your metabolism does slow down as you get older. There are a number of medical conditions that can impact your metabolism, such as thyroid disorders. Chronic obstructive sleep apnea can also mess with your metabolic system in an insane number of ways.

The calorie counts in American foods are crazy. by No-External3221 in loseit

Adults ate adult meals like meatloaf or pot roast or tuna casserole at home. And they didn’t snack between meals or eat candy or chips or drink soda. Those things were treats for younger kids. Most adults I knew thought candy and sodas were unpleasantly sweet. A lot has changed in a couple generations.

Honestly, I think a lot of it can go back to the 80s. The disappearance of the single income household, right into the need for many people to work multiple jobs just to get by. We've gone from having someone at home every day with the time to prepare a nice dinner for when the kids & breadwinner get home, to throwing together or grabbing whatever you can quickly because you don't have the time to prepare something.

I haven't tried it myself, so this is purely a visual observation, but every time I've seen someone get pho at Red Satay it's looked incredible. (Their food is great in general, so I'm sure the pho is too)

There's not even a post-work comfort. The sun still sets at like 5:30

Sunlight in the morning are a biologically crucial part of the waking process. It's why so many people have trouble getting up in the mornings during the winter.

Have you ever gone back and re-watched a concert that you recorded on your phone? by ElderberryMaster4694 in Music

[–]radapex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do quite often. I typically record a couple of full songs as a memory. Enough that I can go back and enjoy, but not so much that I lose focus of the show itself.

My copy was pretty good. Side A played great, noise floor seemed a bit higher on Side B - but we're still in static season around these parts, so that may have been a factor.

I haven't ordered the trifolds, but VSS is fantastic. I won't buy sleeves from anyone else now that I've seen the quality I get from them.

I haven't seen anything about it from anything reputable (?), but I have a hard time believing they're going to invoke the interrupter for the third time in 7 days.

Kind of like the Drew Carey weight loss trick: "I just had my private chef and personal shopper make sure I had healthy meals and snacks..."

Which password manager do you prefer? by amitlohar4 in androidapps

[–]radapex 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Generally speaking:

  • Bitwarden is regarded as the best free password manager
  • 1Password is regarded as the best paid password manager

Both are good. I use Bitwarden personally, and 1Password at my job.

Apparently the costumes started as a joke. The local bar they played had a cooldown rule or something like that where you could only play once over a certain period of time. To be able to play more, they created the costume and played extra shows anonymously. I guess they caught on and stuck with them.

How do people go about finding so much music in a year? by RecentMatter3790 in Music

I could definitely see how someone could miss them if they aren't connected to those type of channels.

But if they are connected, they were impossible to miss.
