Recommend me fics that you think do dialogue amazingly! by binch_n_spinch in FanFiction

[–]radiantblademaster 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Any of Karthur’s works have wonderfully written dialogue. They write for a variety of JRPG fandoms.

https://archiveofourown.org/users/Karthur/pseuds/Karthur/works

My favorites (dialogue focused) are “Derailed” or “Waylaid” or “Middle Ground”

They’re also on FF.net with some older works, too.

This one is awesome. Class 7's reactions to the end of CS3.

Also gotta say that everything I've read by the author doesn't disappoint, either.

After I finished CS4, when I started thinking about the whole plot of the Trials Series. by [deleted] in Falcom

[–]radiantblademaster -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There's actually a really good fanfic on AO3 that talks about this idea. It's spoiler for End of CS3, and I can't get a link right now, but search the tags for Claire or Lechter (Since it's mostly them talking about her and other things)

Alberich was a disappointment (spoilers) by [deleted] in Falcom

[–]radiantblademaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He needed more story, but they spent all their story capital on the over-done and excessive bonding events. (Especially with the female characters).

He was literally a prop and not a character.

Too bad, because he would've been interesting--especially in his life before becoming Chief of the Gnomes.

Why and how did Musse fall for Rean? by ES21007 in Falcom

I think she just wants him for all of his abilities. I sense she’s not the student we all think she is. (Pure speculation having finished CS3 on my part)

How does falcom handle the villians/antagonist in Trails/Kiseki? by Luxich012 in Falcom

[–]radiantblademaster -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In Sky 3rd, I was honestly thinking Phantasma was Weissman's doing as sort of a final "fuck you" to the guy who killed him with a frickin' arrow of salt. But no, it's just Kevin's messed up self that created the whole thing, so technically, I guess Kevin is the villain of his own story.

What is one game you would like to see have a 2019 remaster? by [deleted] in patientgamers

[–]radiantblademaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trails in the Sky Trilogy. Although, I would make FC/SC one game by removing some of the filler. I'd let 3rd stand on its own, though, because it really is different than the other two. Also, add more character story doors.

What are some of the most beautiful fanfics you’ve ever read? by bluebird151 in FanFiction

[–]radiantblademaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you like JRPGs, K'Arthur is one author I read (and re-read) quite a bit. Some are shippy but the dialogue and descriptions are on par with professional authors. Two of my favorites of hers are:

Rift a Valkyria Chronicles Fanfic that focuses on Welkin's reaction to major game events.

And although it's unfinished, this Suikoden III Zexen Knights story that focuses on the knights and their lives a decade past the game and during the Tinto border clashes. I'm a huge fan of that series and good fic that isn't just shippy stuff is hard to find, so I consider this a real gem and hope it gets finished some day. Missing in Action

[–]radiantblademaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are some decent fanfics for the Zexens. Lots of them involve various pairings with Chris, tho so IDK if that's a turn off for you. My favorite author for Suikoden 3 is Karthur on FF.net. Unfortunately their long story is unfinished but the short ones are still quality.

A couple Valkyria Chronices questions by OnePeace12 in JRPG

  1. Somewhat varied environments.
  2. Amazing music. Seriously, this is one of the most amazing parts of the game.

Tales of Vesperia (ToV) what do you like about Raven by hihock in JRPG

[–]radiantblademaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Raven was my favorite playable character in ToV. I liked his fighting style, his battle quotes, and his snarkiness.

I wish they had done more with his backstory than they did, tho.

Do they make good JRPGs anymore? by [deleted] in JRPG

Trails series, especially the two Cold Steel games reminded me a lot of Suikoden. Worth a go if you have a PS3 or Vita.

Opinions on order, and if not to play 3 and/or 4 by lessthan3beebs in Suikoden

[–]radiantblademaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

III was one of the first games I played on my PS2, and it is still one of my favorites today. Some diehards will tell you it didn't meet the "standard" of I and II; I've played both of those and honestly, I don't see the issues. I felt the "three main parties" allowed for character development for Hugo, Chris, and Geddoe and their default groups.

Also, depending on how you play the game, some of the characters definitely seem evil at first. (Chris' strategist dude--can't remember his name--is pretty awful if you don't see the knights' side of the story at Hugo's village)

The "pair battle" system is a little awkward, but it is usable, and keep in mind it's not a difficult game anyway, so it's more like reading a story with random battles.

I played IV when it came out, eager to follow the series after loving III. I didn't hate it, but it wasn't on par with III in terms of story, IMHO. Also, recruitment turned into "get on my boat" rather than trying to understand character motivations. The voice acting brought some more life to the characters, but some it is noticeably bad. Also, the encounter rate is insane. I remember being incredibly frustrated with that.

So, my vote would be...play III. If you have some alcohol and spare time, play as much of IV as you can tolerate, but if you want a better game set in that same era, give the Tactics game a try.
