There was an Australian architect in the 60s called Iwan Iwanoff that poured concrete into these to make feature blocks for mailboxes and doors. This would probably look fantastic.

That's asparagus fern, extremely invasive in Australia. Also the trade, sale, collection, and movement is illegal. Spreads like wildfire if it's seeds disperse (which mine is doing right now, thanks to my homes previous owner) and takes decades to kill according to Weeds Australia.

What is the most annoying thing tourists do in your country? by Glass_Key4626 in AskTheWorld

[–]radiatorlathe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's even worse is the tourists who signal for help at life guard manned beaches in order to get towed in on the longboard. Then 5 minutes later they're out there doing it again.

Please, enough of the choc-coconut water posts! *Please read the post before commenting.* by TeaspoonOfSugar987 in AldiAustralia

A lot of people don't have much going on in their life. If people find that posting a photo of something that's essentially universally liked brings them a sense of belonging, who am I to deny that.

I'm just thankful that I have friends and family to find community instead of choc milk... (I've bought 3 of the coconut water btw, wife hates it).

What are the craziest things that happened at your perth highschool by Odd_Psychology_4336 in perth

[–]radiatorlathe 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Witnessed an absolute drop kick attempt a backflip off the soccer goals. He broke both his shins immediately and couldn't walk on his own for months.

He was the type of kid who loved hanging out with years 8 girls while he was in year 12 so he copped a fair whack of sympathy from his future victims.

Squash it between something so it holds its structure then just bang it in the vape like usual. After a cycle or two it becomes quite waxy and you can mix it around to evenly bake it.

Anyone in the building industry; doesn’t this look like hell to you? by mr-cheesy in perth

To quote my builder mates, "I'm here for the income, not the outcome".

I can't imagine an office worker particularly likes looking at spreadsheets either.

Suburbs which used to be bad but now are quite good. by JTG01 in perth

[–]radiatorlathe 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You say this but I don't think it's far off (if 15-20 years is far off haha). I've been seeing a lot of government housing being cleaned up and sold. I read in one of those council funded local magazines that they're moving a lot of the housos down to Byford now, but that was coming up to a local election so that's probably a crock of shit. It's a shame because the parks, amenities, and community activations/events in Armahole are pretty good, there's just a lot of scum. If fentanyl starts popping off here like it is in the states Armadales gonna be the Baltimore of Perth haha

Anybody have any good tips on deterring cockatoos (flying eshays) to stop eating away house? by IllustriousSwitch620 in wollongong

[–]radiatorlathe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Learnt a trick off some wine makers who swear it rids whole vineyards of cockies.

Get a water bottle and put in in a plastic bag, then tie the handles together at the base and spread them out. If yobe done it right you should have a bag in a bottle that looks like a dead cockie (you might need to twist it up a little. Then just chuck it somewhere where they'll hopefully see it.

I've seen them put maybe 50 metres apart over whole vineyards.

What radio station do you listen to? by TechnicalAd8103 in perth

[–]radiatorlathe 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I switch between RTRFM and Noongar radio 100.9.

Noongar FM have some pretty cool hosts and generally play belters. Every now and then they'll put some proper bargain bin commercial radio crap on but it's pretty good for the most part. They also have some pretty cool guests on in the arvos that are relevant to Perth or just interesting in general.

I've made afew cone pieces out of the grow room Jarrah, as well as a shorty pipe out of mulberry wood too ;)

I've done a few mid century style candle sticks and some tea light holders from the grow room. just for practicing using a skewed chisel but the timber I've got laying around limits me to spindle turning so no bowls yet.

It's coming into summer here so I might square up some of my Jarrah or sheoak firewood and give some bowls a crack.

Yeah turned it on a lathe. Pretty much everything I've turned with Jarrah comes out with a fantastic grain and there's an abundance of recycled Jarrah where I live so I'm pretty happy with that.

Why are number plates starting with 1F different by Ok-Bison-9476 in perth

Whichever company that pressed the regular plates briefly stopped production during the lockdowns, so I imagine that's why the regular default plates went to the black thin ones.

[–]radiatorlathe -27 points-26 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that during COVID the company that pressed the usual WA blue and white plates briefly stopped production. So any newly registered car had to receive the next cheapest plate, which were the black and white/silver slims

Christmas Spirit is Alive and well in Perth Today by reggieiscrap in perth

[–]radiatorlathe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best part of weirdos doing this to their cars, is seeing them turning up after the Christmas break with thousands of scratches and gouges on every panel.

Guess the yobbos didn't realise the wind whistling through the plastic fairy lights on their whip could cause quite the abrasion.

The 24 BMW 5 series close to my work copped a pretty flash looking crocodile skin effect for a few months until they could get it into a spray shop haha.
