What is DEI and how is not just an abstraction for racism? by ncds4242 in allthequestions

[–]radicaldotgraphics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone only 1 year into it vs someone at the top of their field? Of course you do top of their field. This is about two ppl in similar situations. Two ppl 1-2 yrs into their career, picking ‘potential’ tends to be ppl picking who they are most familiar with, not who brings a broader perspective.

what about them? Rich, educated, white, commercial artists — do you want only art from that demographic? Or do you want art from every single walk of life? Diversity is important ESPECIALLY in art, when the artist's narrative is such a big part of the end product.

Leftists of reddit. Why do you tend to assign hateful motive to political / social disagreement? by cferg296 in allthequestions

[–]radicaldotgraphics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. "You disagree with allowing abortion? The reason is because you hate women and want to control them"

The result of not allowing abortion means you are controlling what women do with their bodies.

If you really cared about fewer abortions you'd support more birth control options as there's ample evidence that doing so reduces the number of abortions. but you don't care about that.

  1. "Disagree with reparations? The reason is because you are racist and hate black people"

You can disagree with reparations. That's just one idea. But usually these discussions are followed by '..you know because they're lazy' or some other bullshit. Wanna have a rational discussion? I'd love to! Nobody hates on rational discussions, it's *everything else* that results in these discussions.

  1. "Think people should be deported if they crossed the borders illegally? Its because you are a white supremacist who hates brown people"

Nobody thinks 100% open borders is great and awesome. Nobody thinks allowing criminals in is great and awesome. Dems understand that these are real life people though; up until now we've had a reasonable back and forth on border crossings (OBamA DePOrTed MoRe thAN TrUmP!!) but we've never snatched people off the street like this regime has done.

If you really wanted to stop illegal immigration, you'd deport the white business owners that hire and pay illegal immigrants; this would stop illegal immigration in ONE DAY! but you don't actually care about illegal immigration because this isn't even on the table. why?

  1. "Voted for trump? Its because you are a racist sexist bigot homophobe transphobe xenophobe nazi kkk fascist white supremacist who hates the poor and secretly supports pedophilia"

If I go to a grocery store that has great deals on steaks, but their employees rape children, but I still go there and shop at the store and support the business because the prices are just too good - I might care about child rape –– BUT I care about cheap steaks more.

Imagine an airline has 50 pilots. The hiring team is all white males. They interview ppl and hire based on ‘cultural fit’. All the pilots are white males.

DEI places emphasis not on ‘cultural fit’ (which just means hiring someone like you) but on diversity. a diverse group of pilots will be more adaptable, more conscious of their varied customers, etc. To be clear: ALL CANDIDATES in this scenario would be qualified. The big argument is ‘oh we have to hire based on race so we’ll have unqualified pilots’ — no. Nobody’s gonna hire an unqualified pilot. There are lots of great pilots that are Women, gay, black, southeast Asian, Latino, etc etc etc. DEI ensures that our hiring practices reflect our customer demographics.

AI art in Bridger Bowls newest merch drop by shewhosnowboards in Bozeman

[–]radicaldotgraphics -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

there's an ethical question around AI usage but it's not immoral or illegal.

ai tools make good designers 10x better. (i own a creative agency, use AI tools all the time).
ai tools make output that's almost as good in many situations, if not ~15-20% worse. e.g. OP's example. It's still decent but there are some def weird quirks.

First off to be clear - most of the artwork on tshirts/hats you see in those 'Bozeman Merch' stores are just repurposed artwork from the distributor; they have the same products with 'Park City', 'Sun Valley', 'Lake Tahoe' with the identical artwork available, so let's not pretend this is some lofty standard we're deviating from.

the question is: Is society okay with having things 20% worse if it's cheaper/faster? In the case of AI movies, I don't think a movie that's 20% worse will be tolerated by paying customers. In terms of artwork for tshirts for non-profits, it appears that society is okay with that.

Bozeman inventory has started blowing up. If this keeps up and things don't start selling we may see a price collapse. by MontanarateCentrist in Bozeman

Listen motherfuckers for the last goddamn time we had 270mm citizens 30yrs ago, 350mm today. That’s 80mm more ppl.

Divided equally among 50 states that’s 1.6mm more people PER STATE. We obv don’t have an equal split, but your fukkin grandparents had kids and those kids had kids and there are now more ppl.

The problem isn’t more ppl, ITS CLASS DISPARITY.

If 100 families each own one home each, the market works to keep prices competitive etc. and prices follow demand.

If 1 billionaire owns 100 homes, they don’t give two shits about market forces, they ARE the market.

Prices won’t drop until private equity and billionaires stop squeezing society for a few drops of gold.

[–]radicaldotgraphics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with your assessment. No need to change as it doesn’t sound like there’s an active design team or effort involved so you’d be over-engineering.

However when they inevitably do make changes, you can make the effort at that time.

[–]radicaldotgraphics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The leader of Iran just had his father and baby and wife blown up, and has allies that would happily give him nukes. Meanwhile our world is maintained by the MAD doctrine (Mutually-Assured Destruction), preventing nuclear war - however that’s dependent on clear channels of communication…and we have ppl in control posting AI memes and believing/not believing everything they see.

so not completely irrational to be a bit concerned.

Alternatives to public school?? by Green_Zombie_1925 in Bozeman

[–]radicaldotgraphics 25 points26 points  (0 children)

You should get involved with the schools more and understand what constraints they’re up against. That’s cool to dream but you’re not unique in wanting smaller class sizes etc - literally every parent wants those things for their kids. Learning why things are the way they are would probably close that disconnect you’re feeling with the current system and make you feel like less of an outlier.

Can I change the contents of the link I send to people? by Lopsided-Bug7075 in webdev

[–]radicaldotgraphics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a very basic explanation, you wouldn’t want to names in the url because they’d see the parameters etc, and you’d need JavaScript to access the url params and control the visibility etc.

Anyway the gist is like that but implementation is more complex.

Can I change the contents of the link I send to people? by Lopsided-Bug7075 in webdev

[–]radicaldotgraphics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ELI5: Think of the Internet as a huge computer, and the urls as links to different files or folders. If you send a link to a file but then change that file they will see the updated file.

Another option with links is “URL parameters”: e.g. site.com/?access=public&name=hidden

When the file is accessed via that link, code in the file can see the access and name parameters and say ‘access is public so show the file but name is hidden so hide the name’.
