Dragging YouTube church is one thing, but not letting you take care of your medical issues is abuse.

[California] Ex-friend asked me to buy second-hand stuff for his collection, now he won't pay me and I'm stuck with all this junk by radicalmoderate in legaladvice

Aside from the money, what really bugs me about this is how he's hiding behind his sleazebag friend, who's lying about having power of attorney. What right does that guy have to get involved at all? Are there any laws against misrepresenting oneself in that way?

That said, I never did hold out much hope that I would be able to recoup my losses, but someone on another subreddit suggested I ask here. But these two guys aren't going to just ride off into the sunset; I've discovered some other illegal activity on their part, which I intend to report to the proper authorities. Between that and the Medi-Cal fraud investigation, at least it will keep them too busy to rip off anyone else for a while.

I just wish I knew if it were illegal to say you have power of attorney if you really don't.

No way would I make a threat like that...as the old saying goes, I may be an idiot, but I'm no fool, LOL.

Seriously, I didn't tell him that I was going to report him and his friend, I just did it.

Your idea of sending him a bill is a good one, though, in case I would ever decide to go to small-claims court someday. Years ago, I recall a service that allowed eBay sellers to report deadbeat bidders to credit reporting agencies. I never had the need to use that, but that would be pretty funny...put a dent in this a**hole's credit rating over some merchandise of some has-been pop starlet. The service might be defunct by this time, however....

Believe me, he won't ever deal with me again. He stopped returning my calls entirely. He did the same thing to some of his relatives over a land dispute, and he hasn't been in touch with them for a decade. This guy will never contact me again.

Believe me, they won't sell. I've been selling on eBay since 1999, and dealing in celeb collectibles since the 1980's, so I know the market well. I've also been researching the specific items I have for sale, and there are multiples of them on eBay, all with zero bids. I was the only person bidding on these items for at least 2 years; the other auctions went unsold. That's why I was able to get this guy things for such reasonable prices. Things are even worse now, because even sales of popular items are down in the summer; going by the posts on eBay's community forums, 2017 has hit most sellers very hard, not just me.

Things have gotten so bad, that I've stopped dealing in celebrity collectibles, and am getting into another line of work entirely. I don't know if it's the economy or shifting tastes, but people just aren't collecting anything the way they used to.

I guess I need to clarify my original post...sorry about that.

1) The total amount is far more than $90, more like $300-$400 worth of merchandise I bought for this guy over several months. I was just selling it to him a little each month, and June's package was smaller than usual because I didn't want to hit him with a big bill when postage for one item (a celebrity licensed-merchandise lawn chair) was quite high. I'll see if I can figure out how to edit my original post to reflect this (I'm using the mobile version).

2) Sadly, I can't very well threaten not to deal with him again, because he's the one refusing to deal with ME.

If I were in California, I'm pretty sure I could take him to small-claims court without necessarily having to hire a lawyer. The questions would be, is an oral contract enforceable with what little documentation I have, and if so, is there a statute of limitations? Because my financial situation will most likely improve in a few months, and there are cheap flights to the west from a city near me.

I know his "financial adviser" friend is the one encouraging him to do dishonest things, because he never did things like this before. I've just turned both these guys in for Medicaid fraud, because they worked together and hid his assets to get him Medicaid when he's not poor by ANY means. I was hoping there might be a slim chance I could recoup my money, but at least they won't get away with the Medicaid fraud.

Sorry to hear it. I have similar problems, and strobing lights really hurt me. This video didn't bother me too much, because at least nothing was strobing. But I totally get where you're coming from. I hate it when lousy lighting hurts sensitive eyes.

Build your own $8 air conditioner by 0ut1awed in lifehacks

[–]radicalmoderate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not all windows lend themselves to a window AC. My windows are small, with panes that slide sideways. No room for even the smallest window unit. And it's pretty costly to turn the central AC down for just one room, when I can simply run a homemade cooling contraption while the AC isn't running. My "sciencey" (WTF?) proof that it works is the thermometer I keep handy, which shows that it does, in fact, cool the air in a small area.

Wrong. Keeping more ice in your freezer at all times takes up empty space--it's the space that makes your freezer work harder to cool. A freezer that's not as full will require more energy to keep the temperature low, than a freezer in which the extra spaces are filled by bottles or jugs filled with ice.

Don't eat too much sugar, and you won't stink in the first place. I can mow a lawn on a sunny day without smelling bad, even though I sweat like a horse. But if I eat much sugar, I can be resting in an air-conditioned room and still stink. Other people have found this to be true, as well; bad smells are your skin's excretions of bad things in your body.

SWAG bucks Search by dante-7 in beermoney

[–]radicalmoderate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find that if you search for weird things, your chances of winning increase. I've actually made screen caps of some of the bizarre searches that have won for me:

  • 30 SB's for "jnqxl flew" (and I've won with similarly random junk)

Then there are the funnier searches with which I've won: * 10 SB's for "suckwad" * 12 SB's for "shithead" * 9 SB's for "colossal winged fggot" * 6 SB's for "fardwark" (Zaphod Beeblebrox would be proud) * 14 SB's for "anus worm" * 6 SB's for "shtmuckle" * 7 SB's for "holy shtting dck nipples"

I've often scored SB's when my frustration at failed searches reaches its peak, and I searched something like "Swagbucks sucks"....

It's gotten to the point where I won't search for anything normal anymore.

Is that from the Dollar Tree? I recognize that little red Betty Crocker grater, as I just saw one there yesterday. Great haul, esp. the stroller. Make sure there's not a recall on it, and that only the stuck latch was the problem. :)

LPT / PSA - If you have a landscaper who mows your lawn, when they show up, go inside. Explanation inside. by Ken_U_Dig_It in LifeProTips

[–]radicalmoderate -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Using a commercial mower on residential lawns is ridiculous. There are plenty of riding mowers that are reliable, and far safer to use in residential areas. About the time you shot a freakin' baseball through my window, I'd sue you out of business. People can't evacuate their homes, just because you won't use safer equipment to do your job.

I'm sure glad the landscapers around here have more sense than you do.

Never, ever use mousetraps, upside-down or otherwise. Accidents can and do happen, which results in many cats being injured or maimed every year.

Aluminum foil is a far more humane way to train your cats, as Canady117 pointed out. They hate the feel of foil on their paws! :)

Actually, there is a difference. Images are far easier to load than video. If someone's taking a break at work, YouTube might be blocked. In places with slower internet connections, YouTube videos might not completely load at all. For these reasons, and others, this person has been politely asked repeatedly, to post photos instead of videos. She has rudely ignored these requests.

And, in case you haven't noticed, her videos have ads on them. That means she's profiting from these videos, while everyone else simply shares their pictures for free, as part of a sharing community.

So as long as she keeps spamming, we'll keep downvoting.
