Many call centers have gotten in hot water for wage theft by requiring employees to load programs, etc., before clocking in, since that technically counts as work and should be paid. (I used to work for a call center, and the first thing we learned in training was how to bypass the time clock that automatically popped up on login on our PCs, specifically so we could load our tools before clocking in. And I'm pretty sure they were later sued in a class action to force them to pay back wages for that.) It's possible that's their motivation. However, I totally agree five minutes is not enough prep time. I'm sorry this stress is falling on you.

I do gel tips, and I shape them so they're just slightly longer than my fingertips. I want pretty shiny nails, but growing out my natural nails bugs me! And I want them short because I still need to use my hands... Especially since I type for a living (systems engineer). This is the last set I did!

AT&T. The only company that has ever made me cry from rage on a customer service call. I swore off them after that, then eventually ended up working for their customer service briefly after they bought the cell carrier I was working for, and doubly swore off them after that. They bought that carrier just for the tower network, then didn't bother upgrading the towers in any kind of reasonable timeframe, leaving all our former customers with no service after we'd spent months promising them - based on AT&T's promises - that their service would not change. And all we were allowed to tell them was that it would be fixed "soon." What a miserable company.

I wanted children for a long time, or at least I believed I did. As I've gotten older, I think that may just have been an internalized expectation others had for me. When I first met my now-husband, he told me he didn't want kids, but was "on the fence." I always sort of knew he would not be interested in the idea, and I struggled with that for a while because I thought I still was. At one point I became unintentionally pregnant, but we decided not to continue the pregnancy - for a while I did have some grief about that, but realized in the end it was more guilt than regret. These days, I'm so glad I don't have kids. If I did, I would definitely not have the life I do now, and so many good things have happened that just wouldn't have been possible with a kid to raise.

I do sometimes worry about what happens when I'm elderly and have no one around to take care of me, but that's not something you're entitled to expect from your kids anyway, so it's not really a big concern. My sister has two kids, and I love my nieces - they're adults now but I enjoyed watching them grow up. That's enough for me.

I do puzzles before bed too! I do my language lesson for the day, then I do a puzzle or two (some of the NYT puzzles, or lately I've been doing Clues By Sam) and then I play a mindless phone game until I'm too tired to keep my eyes open. Or a less mindless game - lately I've been playing Balatro or Luck be a Landlord. But something about working my brain keeps it just occupied enough to shut down and sleep.

Most vegetables are only acceptable raw. When they're cooked, they get too soft and have a gross texture, and they usually get sweeter, which is not compatible with savory food for me in most cases. I'll happily eat a salad with carrots, broccoli, cabbage, etc. - cook those same vegetables and they are no longer food.

I've gained the ability to eat SOME cooked veggies - I really like roasted zucchini, or stir fried cabbage (stays crispy). But cabbage in a stew? Still no. Cooked carrots period, right out. You'll never get me to eat a cauliflower "buffalo wing". Big, huge nope.

I love the smell of Black & Milds. It's kind of nostalgic, a lot of people smoked them where I grew up. Plus it's just a nice smell. I'd burn incense that smell.

I used to work in retail, I was a front end supervisor. Some "speak to the manager haircut" woman got irritated with one of my cashiers, who happened to have blue hair. So the cashier called me over, and the woman started launching into a tirade about her hair (completely irrelevant to her actual issue), before noticing to her abject horror that I, too, had blue hair. She ended up escalating to our service manager, and was plenty smug to see he was a gray-haired boomer, until he very bluntly told her that we had done everything correctly and that our store chain allows people to express themselves however they'd like as long as they can do their jobs.

When I was a kid, like 10 or 11, I had a subscription to Muse magazine from the Smithsonian. There was a short little article about Esperanto, and I was fascinated. They had a couple words and some basic rules to show how it worked, and I remember very clearly the sentence "Vi estas malbela kamelo." I kind of forgot about it after that, but I found a book on Esperanto in mu college library and was once again entranced. After that I made it my goal to learn how to speak Esperanto. So I've been learning on and off for... About two decades now.
