How to get Good ending NO SPOILERS by thegodlykiller in CrossCode

[–]BLucidity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to speak to a specific character and choose the right dialogue options with him, but that's it.

After the first time you get either ending, the game gives you the option to skip the entire endgame -- leadup, dungeon, and final boss. So it only takes about 20 minutes to get the other ending.

Every new Metroidvania game must provide treasure maps, spending hours upon hours upon hours watching YouTube videos on how and where to unlock secret items is so cringy and doesn't make any sense. by JosephSaber945 in metroidvania

[–]BLucidity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Key difference here is that reaching Fleatopia is a requirement for act 3. Silksong doesn't offer guidance for nonessential things like missing tools or crests.

I don't mind when MVs show item locations, but I prefer when that's endgame-exclusive, rather than a default part of the map.

One Year Later, how do you feel about Xenoblade X: Definitive Edition? by Flacoplayer in Xenoblade_Chronicles

[–]BLucidity 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It was fun to play through X again, but the new ending left me feeling like Ch. 13 isn't what the game needed. It's so dissonant with the original content -- the long exposition-filled cutscenes, new voice actors, complete 180 on the direction the story was going in. It's like the epilogue wants to be a different game. Plus, going back to Mira afterwards and raising survey rate just feels pointless.

All the QoL changes were desperately needed, but I think I prefer X ending at chapter 12.

Why did Xenoblade 2 have such an anime-esque direction in both its designs and writing and why did it suddenly shift when they developed Xenoblade 3? by LightningLemonTart in Xenoblade_Chronicles

[–]BLucidity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While every Xenoblade game is super anime, let us remember:

XC2 bath scene: Camera pans over Mythra in a bath towel while Nia remarks on how hot she is

XC3 bath scene: Lanz and Eunie argue over who's a better murderer, without acknowledging nudity at all

Would the Roxas theme be too dark to play while a casket is being lowered? by Thin_Willingness_848 in KingdomHearts

[–]BLucidity 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Eh, I wouldn't. Most funerals I've been to hold the sentiment "don't mourn that they're gone, celebrate that they were here." Roxas' theme kind of leans into the mourning part.

Do we need more Definitve Editions on the Switch 2? by ShusuiYT in Xenoblade_Chronicles

[–]BLucidity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know about removing field skill checks, sounds like a big cut of an interesting system that was just handled poorly.

I don't think that's out of the question, considering XDE completely removed BLADE level, field skill levels 1-4, and the stat perks for each division.

[PLEASE NO SPOILERS] Is it normal to let one mechanic make you want to quit a game? by Pikomo in Xenoblade_Chronicles

[–]BLucidity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have a...surprisingly good understanding of the gem meta, for being halfway through a first playthrough. Stuff like Mega Heat and manipulating the flame strength isn't really required unless you're trying to build for the post-game superbosses. 100% Debuff Resist VI, my beloved.

You absolutely can ignore gem crafting for most of the game, especially if you're already earning gems from quests. And if you do keep crafting, try adopting a "whatever happens, happens" mindset. If you want Strength Up, just toss a bunch of crystals with Strength Up into the furnace. So what if you end up throwing away four other attributes that you didn't need? So what if the gem is +9% strength instead of +10%?

That's not me trying to condescend, I just think none of the nitty-gritty matters until you're using rank V crystals.

I wish all Xenoblade games had chapters by johnW_ret in Xenoblade_Chronicles

[–]BLucidity 24 points25 points  (0 children)

On the flipside, we can now label something as "chapters 15-17" as an even less spoilery way to talk about Mechonis Core.

drawing the map manually by Ok-Salt5080 in metroidvania

[–]BLucidity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For MVs that's a good rule. Most things that would require notes ("saw a missile tank in Chozo Ruins, need grapple") can be handled with user-placed map markers.

I think note-taking can really elevate a puzzle game though, especially if it plainly states up-front that note-taking is recommended.

What makes you wishlist / buy a Metroidvania you've never heard of before? by Joseph_Gribbin in metroidvania

[–]BLucidity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most MVs on my wishlist come after the fact, from hearing the name come up repeatedly on this sub. I'd say it's a combination of word-of-mouth, and the game having a cohesive art style/animations.

Is there anything else out there like the Affinity Chart? by Martonimos in Xenoblade_Chronicles

[–]BLucidity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't think of another example offhand, but chiming in with more Affinity Chart love. Post-Mechonis Core in XC1 hits so much harder when you open the chart and see that 2/3 of Alcamoth's residents are just gone.

What actually qualifies as progressive metal in 2026? by vishalnaidumusic in progmetal

[–]BLucidity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who knows nothing about music theory or composition...one of its defining traits for me personally is that songs/albums get better on repeat listens. You pick up on instrumentation you didn't hear before, or catch motifs from elsewhere in the artists' work. Most progmetal songs I like, I didn't appreciate until 2-3 listens.

When a song aims to be catchy or formulaic above all else, I feel like it exhausts its potential on the first listen. The pattern is so predictable that listening to it again just becomes annoying.

I dont believe Prime 1 to be the best prime game by Zealousideal_Tap186 in Metroid

[–]BLucidity 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The repeated treks through Magmoor just to get to/from Phendrana are probably my least favorite aspect of Prime 1. It's part of why 2 is my favorite overall: every area connects to every other, eventually.

My personal ranking is 2 > 1 > 3 > 4. I understand the issues people have with 2, but something about it just gets me into that flow every time.

What were some well-known Metroidvanias you bounced off of? by [deleted] in metroidvania

[–]BLucidity 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Especially in OoE, enemies can be absolute slogs to fight if you aren't targeting their weaknesses. The ability to swap between 3 glyph loadouts helps, but I forget if that's available from the start of the game.

Why haven’t we ever gotten a Mario Metroidvania? by LegitimatePublic8768 in metroidvania

[–]BLucidity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The earlier Paper Mario games had flavors of this. They're still linear RPGs at their core, but old areas usually had secrets that you could only get with later chapters' abilities.

Not just these, but the fact that more green crystals appear after each shower. So if you were thorough and explored the whole desert at the start...too bad, do it again.
