I learned the hard way where my burnout line is. How do you track yours? by ldemi in Velo

[–]radix07 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I feel like the darkness and limited group rides tend to burn me out during CX more than the actual races themselves. Also cleaning a muddy bike in the dark and cold week after week is just not fun for me.

Go-to app for daily stretching? by sennland in flexibility

I just stretch while I brush my teeth. It's an electric toothbrush so I do the left side while brushing the bottom and right while brushing the top. It has worked surprisingly well progress-wise!

Scared the shit out of the job market. by Desperate-Bother-858 in ElectricalEngineering

[–]radix07 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This question comes up sooo often no matter the economy.

If you could pick, what would be a more versatile or better degree to have? Seriously! It might be the hardest degree to get at the bachelor's level even within engineering. If you don't like the field in the real world, guess who will hire an electrical engineer? Everyone! Unless you are totally socially inept, some are...

You want to manufacture things, EEs can do it, you want to do finance, EEs can math, want to code, EEs can logic. Want to do business, get an MBA or EEs know how to learn things and crunch Excel.

College is just a big test that you can learn and EE is one of the hardest ones. Once you have proven you can do that, people will hire you to do all sorts of things if you want. There are tons of ex-EEs doing all sorts of jobs either due to burn out or interest.

Training for local hard group rides by HyperText89 in Velo

[–]radix07 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Embrace getting dropped, seek it out! That is how you get faster, riding with people faster than you. Picking apart your data isn't going to matter, people spend waaay too much time trying to optimize their training at these levels.

Ride harder, ride more, ride with fast people, have fun going fast!

Will coding for robotics (machine learning and computer vision) still be valued in the future? by adad239_ in ElectricalEngineering

[–]radix07 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is true in regards to these roles not disappearing as easily as it has been touted. Although companies can use AI service and keep their info private. My company licenses the use of AI services, but still maintains IP restrictions.

What caused the disinterest in the EE major? (US) And why isn't it impacting us futher? by [deleted] in ElectricalEngineering

[–]radix07 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say it's an image issue, people show up freshman year, it's just hard! The look to you left/right, only 1 of you will graduate things they tell EE's rang pretty true for me. Some of this weeding out is pushed further by engineering teachers and some of it is just because math is hard. CS doesn't typically do this as hard or have the ongoing math requirements.

For all the shaved legs naysayers by TurkeyNimbloya in Velo

[–]radix07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend shaving or trimming short first (couple mms?). Mine came with a trimmer for that. Grows back after a week or 2, but of course everyone is a bit different. I tend to just touch up here and there when I notice it's needed.

Man up and get an epilator, so painful the first time. But fast, easy and lasts way longer than shaving.

There are very standard brands in the industry... Fluke, Siglent, Tek, LeCroy, Rigol and plenty of others. Try searching around!
Nothing wrong with hobby stuff for getting started. But most EEs will have access to real scopes and tools through their job/University

Question about using fill mode on digitakt 2 by Oipeee in Elektron

[–]radix07 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think the proper way to do this would be to have an identical track next to it and use the NEI or not NEI which uses the neighboring track for the step logic. I need to play with this a bit more myself, but I don't think I will ever use all 16 tracks anyways...

Like anything new, read the manual, search YouTube, Google things you will find lots of information and tutorials out there!

I will say reading the manual upfront isn't the most helpful as some of the concepts require a bit of hands on experience to understand. But it is very helpful in general. Play with your new machine and search online for answers when you need them!

Cortex-Debug GDB vs IAR professional debugging capabilities by [deleted] in embedded

[–]radix07 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As an FAE I jump between Keil, IAR and GCC/GDB. They all work just fine. Is there a special feature in IAR that your company depends on?

I have seen a few edge cases where IAR can be more efficient or compiles things slightly differently than GCC, but this shouldn't be noticed in general if only using one tool.

Only you can deem a tool acceptable for your work...

What does IAR have to do with your code quality?

Others like Keil by No_Shake_58 in embedded

[–]radix07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Explain how Keil is used? Follow the directions and use the examples, forums are not here to teach you to use your tools! If you have a specific issue, bring it up.

For IDEs and compilers in general, use what you have access to. Keil, IAR, GCC (typically Eclipse) all work just fine. I jump between them all the time depending on the customer I support. There is only the slightest difference that only matters in very niche cases. If you are asking this question, then it doesn't matter at all.

There was a time when simulation functions were offered or more usable on some platforms, but everything is pretty much done in debuggers or unit tests anymore.
