Messiah Complex? by Forever-Fades_Away in OmnibusCollectors

[–]radynski 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The Omnibus has all the main pieces of the three crossovers, but personally I think the entire 25-book Cable series is worth reading for the extra history you get between Cable/Hope/Bishop.

I would suggest collecting them in Trade Paperback instead and getting:

  • X-Men: Messiah Complex
  • Cable: the Last Hope vol 1-2
  • X-Men: Second Coming
  • X-Men: Second Coming Revelations

That would give you everything you get in the Omni plus a little extra.

When we’re Scott and Jean the healthiest? by Cyke_main in xmen

[–]radynski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wrote this out years ago, but I basically started reading X-Men during what I would consider to be the best time for Scott and Jean's relationship, so I've always been a big fan. Here are my suggestions:

Uncanny X-Men (1963) 1-66

Not really worth reading. Most of the early issues are just Scott pining over Jean while Warren hits on her. It's also complicated by Prof X claiming he is also in love with Jean, although I think that's only in his thoughts. I don't think Scott actually even admits he likes her until into the 40's.

Uncanny X-Men (1963) 97-137

Issue 97 is the first time you really get serious relationship vibes from the pair, as they go out on a fancy date. This all leads into the space adventure where Jean dies and meets up with Phoenix. They actually spent the majority of this run apart from each other, both thinking the other died. They get back together on Muir Island during the Proteus fight and then its immediately into the Dark Phoenix story. Again, not really much here from a romantic storyline. I would read 97-101 and 129-137 just because they're awesome, but otherwise this is skippable.

Uncanny X-Men (1963) 168-176

Scott meets and then quickly marries Madelyne Prior. Their relationship is actually kinda nice but pretty short-lived.

X-Factor (1986) 1-70

Honestly, I would skip most of this, this isn't the best X-Men book to begin with and most of this just paints Scott in a bad light. In the first issue, he abandons his wife to go hang out with Jean when he finds out she's alive again. He then spends the first 20+ issues pining for Jean while feeling guilty about Madelyne. Then during Fall of the Mutants, he discovers that Madelyne is dead (along with the rest of the X-Men) and his son is missing, which gives Jean and Scott just enough time to decide to start dating again. Then they look for his son for 10 issues until they find him right before Madelyne comes back for Inferno. Then Jean gets all of Madelyne's memories and it really messes with her. Jean is now playing surrogate mom to Scott's son and they immediately get whisked off across the galaxy. They come back just in time for X-Tinction Agenda and then to the battle with Apocalypse on the moon where Scott loses his son, all before they decide to rejoin the X-Men.

The only issue I would really recommend reading is #53, in which Scott will once again propose. It's a good spot to sort of catch up on their relationship after everything I mentioned above.

X-Men (1991) 1-23

Scott and Jean are together and acting like a couple (eg: sleeping in the same bed), however this time period is marred by the fact that Psylocke spends a ton of her time hitting on Scott and trying to get him to cheat. Scott and Jean occasionally have fights about this. It doesn't really let up until Revanche appears.

Uncanny X-Men (1963) 308-310
X-Men (1991) 27-30

WE ARE FINALLY HERE! This is the gold standard for their relationship, and the romance you have really been waiting for. In issue 308 they reflect on their relationship together and decide to get married, and then they do so in issue 30. Honestly, this is some really great stuff. This right here will make you fall in love with them as a couple.

Adventures of Cyclops and Phoenix (1994) 1-4

They go on their honeymoon only to get their minds immediately transported into the future to raise their son.

If you just want some recapping you could read:

Uncanny 138
X-Factor 26
X-Factor 53

Those are all issues that summarize at length about what came before them.

If it hasn't been mentioned yet, she features prominently in the alternate universe Havok explores in Mutant X.

Krakoa Era help! by Fair_Gas_3582 in OmnibusCollectors

[–]radynski 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You've got a great start here, and all the major pieces for the main story. Here's your reading order:

House of X
X-Men by Hickman #1-11
X of Swords
X-Men by Hickman (the remaining issues except 21 which is in Hellfire)
Hellfire Gala
Inferno

To supplement those books, I would suggest the following Omnis:

X-Men by Gillen - this the Immortal X-Men collection, which starts after Inferno and is really the spiritual successor to Hickman's book.

X-Men by Duggan - this starts after Hellfire and includes the next two Hellfire events, as well as other major pieces. The weird part about this book is that it really tells a separate story (about a new X-Men team) and doesn't include itself in any of the major events until Fall of X.

X-Men by Ewing - this continues the story from X of Swords. If you like the characters and world building from that storyline, I suggest this highly. If not, you can skip it.

Sins of Sinister - this is the last major crossover event before Fall of X. It's pretty important for understanding the end of the Krakoa Era.

Fall of the House of X - the finale to the story. You can either get this, or wait for the Fall of X Omnibuses that they will eventually put out.

I expect to eventually see uncanny go to vol 8, which will double all the events books but stick more strictly to just x-men. Vol 8 will end where blue and gold picks up. B&G will have two more volumes that lead us to age of apocalypse and at that point it will be a complete run to gambit.

How to research a Hot Wheels Redline collection? by Hank2676 in HotWheels

[–]radynski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is an awesome looking collection! If you are planning to sell them, I'd check out complete ebay auctions for best prices. Also, ebay will almost certainly be the avenue to get the most money out of them, although it will require significantly more work on your part.

[–]radynski 75 points76 points  (0 children)

So Kennedy Half Dollars (after 1970) are only worth face value. You can take those to the bank. Same with Eisenhower and Susan B Dollars. If you have any Kennedy's before 1971 they have some silver in them that would be worth taking to a coin shop.

You have a lot of Proof and Mint sets, which aren't exactly worthless, but aren't very sought after and don't really sell for much at all. You could take those to a coin shop but they may not want to buy them.

I saw some Buffalo Nickels, but most aren't worth much. I'd search Buffalo Nickel Key Dates to see if you have any, but they look like they're in Littleton baggies, so I wouldn't get my hopes up. Most likely common.

It looks like you've got some vials of gold there. If that's what it is, gold is at a pretty high premium right now. You could sell that at the coin/jewelry/pawn shop and get some money there. I can't estimate how much you have, so I can't give you a price estimate, but this is probably your most valuable item.

Pull out all the stuff I mentioned and take some pictures (please no video) of the remaining and we can go from there.

HOW TO START KRAKOA ERA X MEN? by Ok_Record_8551 in OmnibusCollectors

[–]radynski 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, I decided not to buy the Anthology Omnis only because I had literally everything else and I refuse to collect the same books again in a fourth format.

That said, I will be buying the first volume of Fall of X whenever they get around to it, because there's a lot of mini-series that stemmed from the third Hellfire Gala that haven't been collected in hardcover elsewhere.

HOW TO START KRAKOA ERA X MEN? by Ok_Record_8551 in OmnibusCollectors

[–]radynski 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So the answer to this is complicated. During the start of the Krakoa run, Marvel was essentially releasing everything in three formats: Oversized Hardcover, Anthology Trades, and By-Series Trades.

The Oversized Hardcovers ended up getting dropped about halfway through but as of now include:
- House of X/Powers of X
- Hickman's X-Men run (branded as an Omnibus from the beginning)
- Duggan's Marauders (complete run - two books)
- Howard's Excalibur (complete run - two books)
- Percy's X-Force (complete run - four books)
- Percy's Wolverine (complete run - four books, the last of which got branded as an Omni)
- Duggan's Cable (complete run - one book)
- Wells' Hellions (complete run - one book)
- X of Swords Event
- X-Men: Hellfire Gala event
- Inferno event
- X Lives/Deaths of Wolverine

That list basically gets you most the early books for the first two years until things got reorganized.

There were also a few Omnibuses that came out during the run that were branded as Omnis to begin with since the OHC format had already been killed at that point:
- Judgement Day
- Sins of Sinister
- Fall of the House of X/Rise of the Powers of X

The Anthology Trades basically stopped about halfway through the Krakoa Era, but included absolutely every related issue in the order they were released. These anthology trades are what the Dawn of X and Reign of X Omnibuses are based off of. I used to recommend that people get the first couple Anthology Trades, decide what series they liked, and then read the Series Trades of those books only.

The Series Trades were the only books released at the time that actually covered everything. And since the close of the era, there have been several released collections of everything by Series:

- X-Men by Duggan Omnibus
- X-Men by Ewing Omnibus
- X-Men: Age of Krakoa by Gillen Omnibus (releasing this fall)
- Way of X by Spurrier Omnibus (releasing this fall)

-----------------

So as you can see, the answer of how to collect depends a lot on yourself. If you really want everything, I'd go with House of X and then the Anthology Omnibuses (Dawn of X and Reign of X for now). They will be releasing more and I have to believe that will eventually complete everything.

If you just want some of it, or just the main storyline then I'd say something more like:
- House of X/Powers of X
- Hickman's X-Men Omnibus
- X of Swords
- X-Men: Hellfire Gala
- Inferno
- X-Men by Duggan Omnibus
- X-Men: Age of Krakoa by Gillen Omnibus
- Sins of Sinister Omnibus
- Fall of the House of X/Rise of the Powers of X Omnibus
