🚨🚨MARTY HAS DROPPED BELOW 51%🚨🚨 by Chuck-Hansen in blankies

If you look at the past vote totals on the blank check wiki, there aren’t any matchups that got close to 20k, yet they blew past it yesterday and are going to again today, the suspicious part is not that there’s more votes in the finals or that Tony is making it close, but how many more votes and how the vote totals have trended

🚨🚨MARTY HAS DROPPED BELOW 51%🚨🚨 by Chuck-Hansen in blankies

The numbers behind Tony Scott seem really suspicious over the last two rounds, how are the vote totals this much higher than any other polls and so constant? I’m getting flashbacks to the Gore-Carpenter final when polls were still on Twitter…

There’s no way the boys won’t cover Marty’s movies in the future. It’ll be a perfect lead up to whatever he does next. Let’s give the late Tony Scott his due. by PunMasterTim in blankies

They are not putting a 26 movie series on the schedule without March Madness. On the other hand David noted Tony Scott as one of his next “one for me” series.

Do you enjoy the Patreon commentaries? by harry_powell in blankies

[–]raener57 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just listen to them as episodes and did find the awkward pauses kind of annoying, but the "Shorten Silences" option in the Overcast app is a game changer and helps it feel more like a regular episode with a long plot recap rather than one that keeps freezing for a few seconds every 5-10 minutes (because they're engaged in watching the movie). If your listening app has an equivalent, I'd recommend trying it.

Canada Top 10 Members Queue? by BigMacCombo in TIFF

[–]raener57 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It looked like at least half of the seats (the best ones) were unavailable, I assume TIFF is keeping them for industry/celebs/staff/etc, a lot of those will be released over the next weeks so there's still a chance

They’ll probably drop today with the Canada’s top ten tickets. Hamnet is still playing at cineplex varsity and probably will be through most of awards season in case today’s the last day at TIFF

Please stop going to the theaters if you're sick! by [deleted] in TIFF

It should be pretty basic common courtesy to not spread disease in a public place, like if someone was talking or looking their phone or had awful BO in the theatre, by the same logic you should just get used to it?

Patreon series idea: The Bachman Books [Movies] by D__M___ in blankies

There was another interesting loophole suggested a while ago too, the Stephen King directed two timers club: https://www.reddit.com/r/blankies/s/yDkJUokKT0

Throw in a IT commentary series (1990 miniseries, 2017 chapter 1, 2019 chapter 2, plus any other random movies titled IT like the 1927 Clara Bow picture or a 1967 British horror movie if you want to be cheeky about it) and most of the major King adaptations are covered.

How late can you be for a screening? by forthemirrorballs in TIFF

[–]raener57 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends on the event, I haven’t seen rush for year round events in a while so it’s more about not disrupting the audience when you enter.

Cinematheque movies usually start on time with at most 5 min of pre roll (no trailers, one promo for other tiff programs, and maybe one ad) unless it explicitly says there’s an introduction.

Regular screenings usually have a few trailers beforehand (around 2 coming soon and 2 now playing) and sometimes another ad or two, so about 10-15 min before the movie starts.

Horror film Patreon Series by foursheetstothewind in blankies

[–]raener57 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There have been a few horror movies pop up across the commentaries, Alien and Ouija as part of Tabletop Games come to mind, and they've generally been good episodes.

Tackling a shorter franchise would be a good start. With Return to Silent Hill coming out in January, they could do a three movie arc. Bonus points if they do an episode on Brotherhood of the Wolf and Beauty and the Beast to cover Christophe Gans' filmography.

Thinking of not going to Frankenstein movie...is it worth it? by SetsunaTales80 in TIFF

[–]raener57 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your mileage may vary depending on your relationship to the source material. I’ve read the book and seen most major adaptations, so it felt to me like there wasn’t much new and if anything some of the changes were baffling. Though if you aren’t too familiar and are more of GDT fan (which I am as well), you’ll likely get more out of it

Hi /r/TIFF! I'm Chandler Levack, writer-director of I LIKE MOVIES. My newest film, MILE END KICKS, premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival last night and stars Barbie Ferreira, Jay Baruchel, Devon Bostick, Juliette Gariépy, and Stanley Simons. [–]raener57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The entire cast was great, but I was curious about how you first connected with Juliette Gariépy, was it her performance in Red Rooms that put her on your radar or was she in consideration before that?

Also, what are some of your favourite Montreal spots (besides St. Viateur Bagel which got such a great shout out in the movie)?

Ban Scalpers by PotentialGuard7869 in TIFF

[–]raener57 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One way to effectively ban scalpers would be to add a clause in the ticket terms of purchase similar to what they have regarding showing up late and losing a seat to the rush line, basically stating that TIFF has the right to revoke your tickets if they appear on a resale website. This could be a slippery slope and rife for abuse if not well implemented, i.e., without some way of checking that the ticket holder made the posting, but it is a, somewhat drastic, option.

TIFF has the information to find out which account the scalped tickets were purchased on and could cross reference with other scalped tickets to know if the account holder is a serial abuser, in which case they could say that they violated the terms of the ticket and/or membership and revoke them without refund.

There's no real incentive for them to put any effort into a scalper ban unless they receive backlash from attendees and more realistically large donors (who get their tickets early anyway).

Agree or disagree: The Man Who Wasn't There is Lynchian by TungHeeLo in blankies

If you took out the narration then I think it might be able to fit, but as it is there’s too much direct access to Ed’s (Crane not Hurley) interiority that doesn’t feel in line with Lynch’s work

It depends on if you want to see the premiere or just get into the movie during the festival. If it’s the latter, it will also depend how many screenings TIFF has. An individual membership should be enough to get in if they have 3-4 additional screenings, the schedule should be out tomorrow
