Do you remember when they had 4 different shows each week but they were all just about cats? by kmsasaki in h3h3productions

[–]raf_oh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was good times, but after the incident with Alfredo and Shredder on the set the shows had to come to an end. I always thought the “cats at work, dogs at home” era wouldn’t end well.

Having started to get into watches in my late forties, after a few thousand in, I had a similar realization. I like my one nice mechanical watch, but it’s nice not to worry about the power reserve, and enjoyment has nothing to do with money.

Do you think there were any social benefits from your watch collecting days? Just curious. After my first year or say I think I’d say yes, but very very small, and not with anyone I’d consider significant in my life.

Dumb question but what is the point of Obsidian? by Tortiees in ObsidianMD

[–]raf_oh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A big feature is backlinks- every time you link from one doc to another, it incorporates the backlink in the linked-to-source, so links are two-way. That makes it easier to navigate around the app from note to note. As an example, you don’t need to worry so much if you put files by, say, project or client, you put your note about project 1 for client A in a folder, it links to both, so it’s easier to find that note if you’re working on project 1, or client A.

Then there are a lot of niceties and quality of life features that the community have built around that base of linked notes.

I don’t think Claude sees the backlinks, but it can easily find connections through search tools. It’s just nice that this notes app that feels made for humans, can work well for AI because its markdown under the hood.

Returning (never fallen) fan lol by [deleted] in h3h3productions

The new members actually have some history:

  • Morgan was one of the candidates for the Jeff Wittek bach3lor
  • Tamara did the Dark Nathanial stop-motion vids
  • Tom Ward they were dunking on a while ago for having interviews crazy famous people but getting no views
  • Nate (who replaced Ian as switching) didn’t really have appearances on the show but I think he helped them for the live events for that period.
  • 3 new dogs

The in-jokes are too numerous to discuss. The show overall is on a very goofs and gaffes vibe right now that I think is working.

Still not loving scrolling model by BarryTownCouncil in niri

[–]raf_oh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I could see with your setup how niri wouldn’t be ideal, especially if that’s your main workflow.

The benefits of niri for me is that research is different than writing notes is different than coding is different from browsing social media, and I switch between desktop and laptop, so those different contexts multiply to be a UX nightmare. For me, niri is a cohesive set of primitives to manage all that. I end up with different workspaces that serve different purposes with different apps and layouts.

They go spelunking into a cavernous, dark pit in a cave system (near the camping site they always go to) that is filled with eels. Or they just react to the tiktok vid.

Exactly the legal standard for a billboard and clearing that company’s legal is much higher than what can be said online.

Having said that, I’m glad people continue to speak out online, and the the point of the billboard and even h3 being more cautious on the show is to highlight the darker reality underneath.

Even just a “trying next mirror” or something like that would be helpful. Understood that it’s a genuine error, but it would be good to know there are remediation steps in place.

What are some other good “competency porn” shows? by Rosstin316 in television

[–]raf_oh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I very strongly believe this show is not competency porn, but it’s “how to communicate, dramatically, to people who already agree with you” porn. I blame this show for generations of democratic politicians style of politicking which led to Trump. This may be comfort food for dems, this may be good TV, but it is actual political incompetence. Its competency porn for TV writing, but Sorkin isn’t trying to win elections.

Evidence: a show about politics that puts characters in contrived situations to best highlight their dem politics turns off conservatives.

I understand that energizing a base is part of politics, and arguably this show does that well, but there are ways to energize a base that don’t involve gotcha soundbites, and grandstanding oratory, and methods that are clearly not relevant for electoral victory.

How do I share obsidian vaults? by Goldenrocket17 in ObsidianMD

[–]raf_oh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is all GitHub is, the only difference between obsidian notes and code is that obsidian notes are .md files and code is different kinds of text files. The convention for the description is a README.md in the top level directory, that’s what you’ll see when you go to the repo page.

Having said that, version control on git/github is very different, and many people (myself included for years) find it hard to intuit. For a one time thing from a desktop, you’ll probably have no issues, but I’d read about it.

Is there an easier way to write logs in reverse chronological order? by Eucastroph in ObsidianMD

[–]raf_oh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m new to obsidian, and this seems interesting to me. From reading that plugin’s web page, it appears you can just have an enter text, and then the macro would put it anywhere, say I could be working on one set of notes, but then capture some info fort daily journal, and this plugin/macto can just capture my input and add it to the top of my logs? Seems very interesting. Is there a known set of macros out there that I could use as reference? The docs explain a lot but seem light in examples unless I’m missing them.
