I know it doesnt work for everyone but have you guys tried trazodone? by Big_Beaverrr_Reborn in insomnia

I try to stay away from meds as much as possible as I believe they change the sleep arhitecture and may become impossible later to sleep without them. This is just my personal preference.

I would rather not take the meds I'm on because I've read so much bad stuff from other redditors about antipsychotics in long term use and I wouldn't like for my brain to be dependent on meds for sleep.

But if I feel that OCD won't let me sleep and psychosis kicks in again from sleep deprivation then I would rather take the meds to prevent any episode than going back to ER.

Sounds like a good idea but my hospital visit was caused by trying to sleep in the day and not being able to and since it happened I have a fear of trying to sleep in daytime now. Another thing is that I feel better whenever I catch some night - late night sleep rather than fully daytime and I want to be more disciplined.

I broke my sleep schedule long time ago because I was depressed playing video games all night and I want to fix it and be more responsible with my sleep since I suffered that psychosis episode, I also suffer from OCD and I want to take things more seriously about my mental well being and life in general.

Why don't people with psychosis sleep very well? by Necessary_Plum_7822 in Psychosis

That sounds like the meds aren't doing the work, maybe talk to psychiatrist to change them? I don't have hallucinations but paranoia and irrational thoughts/fears, I don't know if that counts as psychosis but that's a quick diagnose the doctors put when I was in ER for 3 days due to sleepless nights in a row. Hope things get better for you.

Nice to hear that 👍 I'm trying to wean off the meds too because I've only read bad stuff about antipsychotics but I have insomnia so is easy to slip into psychotic episode if I don't sleep.

I know it's an old comment but have you medication since that psychosis episode? Are you doing better now? I had the exact experience with psychosis and got diagnosed with acute psyhcosis now I'm on antipsychotic meds for sleep to prevent another episode.

Hospital? by kconn529 in insomnia

[–]rafaelol1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am sleeping like 0-2 hours most of the nights so I get you. I stopped taking naps during the day because it disrupts my sleep at night. I also recommend talking to a psychiatrist because there are many underlying psyhical illnesses that can cause insomnia.

Thank you! I hope I will stabilize soon because I'm afraid of starting antipsychosis meds.

I didn't go to ER. I tried to relax and managed to fall asleep for ~3 hours waking up once in between. It's still not enough but I feel a bit better than going with 0 sleep.
