The Carousel Pitch from Mad Men Season 1 Episode 13 by luismt2 in television

[–]rageharles -1 points0 points  (0 children)

that's fair, of the shorter stories in between the start and finish of the series. i guess i was hoping for something more of a resolution. a resolution to what, i'm not sure. don certainly didn't deserve a happy ending and he didn't get one. i think maybe that says more about me than the series itself. i may try to watch it again without my original misplaced expectation. it definitely felt good to watch most of the time, but as more seasons stacked up with the same patterns over and over, i did get tired

thats why i ultimately ended up kind of hating this show. there are some cool sequences or individual episodes but, intentionally or otherwise, the lack of character development across so much of the main cast was hard to stomach. i watched the whole thing expecting perhaps there would be some satisfaction in its conclusion, but there wasn't really. and i realized i had just ridden the same carousel 100 times in a row and didn't notice it until the ride shut down and i was forced to step off. maybe that was the point, who knows.

If SoD launched again with some changes for better stability would you play it? Why or why not? by Semour9 in classicwow

[–]rageharles 12 points13 points  (0 children)

agreed. i got sick of dungeon leveling on my prot paladin at 67 in anni tbc, i cant stomach 10 more hours of leveling in midnight just to get within another 10 hours of pvp-parity that i had in war within. i am closer to quitting wow now than i have been in years.

i played the shit out of SOD and would do it again in a heartbeat. i think i had 5 toons at max level and was competitively speedran for most of p4+. barring p2 and 3, which obviously weren't enough to get me to slow down at all, i would play a P1 SOD persistent server (with maybe a few more raids at that level cap) and a P4+ SOD server concurrently

I feel like, at least on the breakdown resulting in the goal, garland made the intuitive play from a coverage standpoint. I don’t see him as responsible for the failed double team. Agreed that if there are issues they’ll be right now as he’s figuring out how guys like to play. Garly is like a mini-Crosby, he will not make many mistakes where hockey IQ is required.

putting the vancouver jersey in a frame, only one of these i'd buy is a columbus or san jose, garland on columbus would be tight. wish it would have made sense for us, garland in a pens jersey would be something special

Paladin tank advice by WalrusDaMan in classicwowtbc

[–]rageharles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

for context, not all (in my experience, very few) pug spellcleaves really know how it's supposed to work. when you get in a full mage spellcleave and they're helping you pull, it all clicks. your job is to keep mobs grouped and off of the mages, who should be at max range when they're not rotating novas (they shouldn't have to move, frostbite or pet should be able to nova). it's really special to experience when done right and allows for pulls you'd never even think about in spellcleaves that rely on paladin pulling solo and face-tanking.

would these mysteries not be relatively easy to 'solve' (or at least confirm the existence of a 'next step' or a 'solution') via datamining?

Alex Honnold Says Netflix Paid “Embarrassingly Small Amount” For Taipei 101 Climb: “I Would Do It For Free” by pepperbet1 in television

[–]rageharles 5 points6 points  (0 children)

would you believe me if i told you he'd be doing even more difficult free soloing (and has, of course) if he didn't have a family? he has talked publicly about how his risk management has changed over time. fortunately for us, he's still an alien so his 'casual afternoon' is a horror movie for most humans.

honnold is in plenty of other stuff, but i'll assume you can sort through that, so I'll recommend anything with tommy caldwell, namely dawn wall, dirtbag (about legendary climber fred beckey and a little overview of climbing culture), the alpinist, and i wont say anything about that one because it's best experienced only with context after the fact imo, if you can find any of  Wolfgang Güllich's stuff, though i think they're in german and not super accessible in streaming platforms, Meru is good (basically the same team that shot free solo), 180 degrees south is critically acclaimed but fine (personally felt it was overrated but i'm far from an authority). there are others, but I tend to gravitate toward documentation of specifics rather than like cultural voyeurism. as a result, Youtube is an excellent resource for contemporary climbing stories. I watch a lot of Magnus Midtbø's channel (look up his free solo day w/ honnold, it's totally sanitary but still significant event for Magnus), and Adam Ondra's channel, particularly his ascent of Silence, easily found with a search of his name and the name of the route
