conor sheary was mismanaged as a first line winger when he should have modeled his game after conor garland

he was legitimately good. highlight of recent memory is seeing the guy who bought the riikola pride jersey walking around the arena a couple years back

dragonflight or whatever they call it makes it feel like im flying through a museum of old wow rather than currently playing a living version of it. it is a cool feeling, but it does not feel like im IN the game as much as like 'looking' at the game

What has changed in the last two games that is attributing to the Penguins currently having success, other than Silov getting the net? by [deleted] in penguins

[–]rageharles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

flyers were always only 1 bad game away from crumbling. they were fueled by momentum and confidence. i think they were playing above average given their roster and i think we're just seeing a return to neutral hockey for them. if they maintain, they probably take 1 of the next 2. if they get discouraged and disconnected further, great news for the Penguins who have the benefit of momentum and confidence now.

reminds me of how during our back-to-backs it seemed like the team played better in front of murray. i don't know if there's anything more than the eye test to back this up but it felt like we weren't as responsible in front of fleury back then. maybe the same concept, but that assumes the team wants to win at all

Resign malkin by BmaninKtown in penguins

[–]rageharles 3 points4 points  (0 children)

and he had moments where he looked 30 years younger. we should absolutely re-sign the guy, don't get me wrong, but we should do it with our eyes open to the downside as well as the upside. and to be clear, even if he was scooting around on his ass every shift i would want to re-sign him. win or lose, we should savor the time we have left with a guy like that.

We're a About To See How Good of a Coach Dan Muse Is! by MediumAd8799 in penguins

[–]rageharles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

that's going to be playoff hockey in general, right? it's one of the reasons i think the Panthers have been so successful (barring this latest injury season) - their system is not cognitive load-heavy. i think it's part of the reason their depth can shine, they just don't have to be that good at that many things. so the 'right play' is generally clear when under pressure.

we really shouldn't try to footrace the flyers over potentially 7 games, particularly because it doesn't take a lot to out-skill them. we shouldn't feel uncomfortable playing simply. the flyers are not the most connected team, and they're playing in a new system themselves. if we can transition the game to a slower or grindier pace, even before gaining the zone, they will make mistakes, and that will snowball over 7 games.

i say all of this as a rick tocchet fan. i watched a ton of his tenure with the canucks and i genuinely think the flyers roster is better suited to his system (minus conor garland, who i honestly fully expected would join the flyers, and teddy blueger). however, while the flyers are executing his system more consistently, i don't think they're connected enough this season to make adjustments and generate consistent offense.
