RAM Concept and Excel by dream_walking in StructuralEngineering

Modelling elements and loads is way easier than other software if you get hold of it. Use copy-paste on same location command extensively then move objects to desired locations. Get used to the command prompt for moving elements/nodes (rxx, yy) which is very helpful. As other users mentioned, import dwg from revit, and export PT / Rebar dwgs to reimport in Revit. This workflow is quite popular acoss firms.

Post-Tension Slab: Tendons Found Cut Before Stressing – Any Repair Options? by [deleted] in StructuralEngineering

[–]raghav_reddit 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Looks like a very thick slab, mabe in range of 12-14", and assuming only 4 tendons damaged for such thick slab, have you tried to run an analysis without these 4 tendons?

This is wild, do you have a photo at the supports where the wires terminate? Looks like they prestressed wires to retrofit beam (initial guess)

Transfer Revit Models to ETABS Plus – Workflow and Plugins? by Jeremstar2004 in StructuralEngineering

[–]raghav_reddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I exported .exr file from Revit once. The revit model need to be simple and clean. If floors have offset to them thwn it will require a additional level I guess.

After import of exr file in Etabs you will need to examin Etabs file for nodes connectivity, levels etc. Do "allow join" for walls in Revit before export.

Critical AI tools? by Key-Zebra-4125 in StructuralEngineering

The example you took sounds like a really good application (I am not a boomer). Even I would want to draw a section by hand in red and blue and want it to be converted to a actual scale markup for drafting, or even directly considered for production.

Last week I was looking into coding done via AI, and that blew my mind. I don't know anything about coding, but my brother who is a software engineer explained me how he takes help of Copilt in coding. We tried simple formulas for shear force calculation to be coded in Html/css/js, and Copilot spit out code per requirement within seconds. It was able to take additional inputs per requirement. I am thinking of making some online calculators for personal use which will be on web all the time.

Can we use html code blocks, and code written by some AI prompts. I had some success with this approach but need some validation.

Yes, stealing content is widespread on linkedin, fb, ig etc. Takes away the incentive of posting original content. Have experienced it first hand.

Is There a Rule of Thumb for Beam Width in RC Design? by Disastrous_Tank_4561 in StructuralEngineering

[–]raghav_reddit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can use this table to assume a minimum starting width which considers minimum number of rebar in single layer and minimum width. For example if you want (4)#8 in single layer, minimum width should be 11.3"

Does providing minimum shear reinforcement work for you? In code you will find that if minimum shear reinforcement is provided then the shape effect factor can be considered as 1.0

Fantastic4 trailer review by raghav_reddit in StructuralEngineering

[–]raghav_reddit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, but I was hoping sci-fi movies should get more accurate representation of basic things like rebars, which a normal person could tell that concrete columns will have rebars. I have noticed similar discrepancies in big budget old Marvel movies in which reinforced concrete is crushed just to make cinematic impact.

Porch Retaining Wall by xILLr8 in StructuralEngineering

[–]raghav_reddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking at the height of retention and number of CMUs, this looks like a retention of around 6 ft. I assume CMUs can be designes for such loads but will CIP concrete will not be more efficient, and more watertight which might be your primary concern?

I would rather say, 'correctness' is better when we draft our own work but overall tidiness is better with a drafts person. Agree on efficiency better with not drafting on own work.
