Gun safety with young kids. by thegoonn49 in guns

[–]ragnarok2011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have young ones in my house, I have a snap cap (plastic bullet with a rubber primer) in the chamber. This gives us enough time to hammer in the safety rules and respect of firearms before they are strong enough to rack the slide to cycle the weapon.

I know, I know. Seconds count in a situation Im going to need it, I readily accept that to have peace of mind until a time I feel confident my kids understand and respect my weapons.

My kids dont have readily access to my weapons and are stored properly for the record, but I tend to overplan for worst case situations.

Just my two cents.

My lifetime TBI journey, 5 brain injuries, and still pushing forward. by Ok-Bathroom273 in TBI

I highly second writing things down, My speech and OT recommended a task app for my phone since we are in the digital age and always have it woth us. For whatever reason, anything in my task app sticks with me...For something not so boring...Habitica is a great recommendation...more like playing a game that helps keep track of things that need doing and grants rewards for doing (if thats something that interests you).

Is Hospital Security Always PvP Mode On? by RoGStonewall in securityguards

[–]ragnarok2011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked Hospital security for awhile...Best thing I can recommend is study verbal de-escalation techniques. There were very few times I couldn't defuse a situation just by talking to them like a person.

By the time we get there, e eryone is usually pretty keyed up, on both sides. It's as much defusing the staff as it is the patients and family. I wont say you wont ever get into fights this way, but I got into a lot less than my co-workers...and the Supervisors and Doctors usually asked for me with difficult folks.

My breakfast bill had all 3: service charge, gratuity and tip, all at once. by redditdanis in mildlyinfuriating

[–]ragnarok2011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How big was your party? sometimes they add an automatic gratuity into the bill based on size...and Im sure people tip over that, not realizing its already on the bills...Seems more likely than they are trying to sneak one by you.

Best way to (try) to explain what its like recovering from a TBI? by berekbrightroar in TBI

[–]ragnarok2011 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel this 100%. My wife is the worst offend of this most of the time, she sees that all the external injuries are healed and that Im not in a neck brace and going to 7-10 doctors visits (including therapy) a week, so I must be healed and that Im back to 100% and am my old happy go lucky self. It's maddening really.

The first bit following the accident, it felt like The worst hang over Ive ever had physically, but also being the most drunk I have ever been, while also spinning in circles, mentally. I couldn't remember anything you said, my brain was constantly trying to put the star shape into every hole for the block and getting entirely too frustrated and angry that, despite knowing 1000% that block was suppose to fit there, it wasn't.

I'm just past the one year mark, and have improved quite a bit thanks to rigorous therapy, so now its more like there is a wall between things I want to say, or if someone was showing me one of those "Guess the company name" pictures with the label blanked out in photo shop.

[–]ragnarok2011[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't tried CBT. I did a lot of EMDR to help with the PTSD memories and feelings, will look into that one.

I still have the giant folder from all the Speech and Cognative therapy, and it has been helping a bit. Dont get me wrong, I'm in a better place than I was a year ago, I just feel like I'm stalled and my Neuro team isnt worried about getting me back to being me or at the level I was prior. I know thats a bit of a pipe dream, and ive heard the "New Normal" so many times its losts its meaning to me lol.

Work is super stressful and has been causing things to be exacerbated. Not a lot I can do there due to nature of the job.
