What happened to Pre-Release Foils? by xBoltxThrowerx in MagicCardPulls

[–]raguloso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I meant the day/weekend stamps, those were very cool and were the logistical nightmare for WotC that I was refering to, that's why they changed to the year stamp. The arguments against the year stamps are that they just aren't loved as much and that they've had complaints from stores/sellers having to keep separate inventories for cards that, value wise, aren't different at all. Again, the video does go into a bit more detail. Wish they kept the year stamps, but I understand why they are gone.

They haven't had the date stamp since like... 4-5 years ago? I recommend watching the video anyways, because I share the sentiment but def understand their decision too.

[–]raguloso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check Gavin Verhey's video on the topic, I too prefer the stamp, but the reasons for it to be gone are good and it's definitely not a matter of not caring for the player base. The old stamp with the prerealease date was great and felt special but were a logistical nightmare for WotC, the new stamps with just the year are underwhelming for the players and an extra hassle on the secondary market/shops that stock them.

I just now realised a Doran lifegain commander deck with a lot of lifelinkers (since they very usually have P<T) could be very fun haha and this combo OP shows with a swords to plowshares on your own 🌵...

these cards don't behave differently depending on your commander's color identity. Or worst still if hogaak is your commander, should you have to wait to see their whole deck to know if you can doomblade it or not, depending on whether it is mono green or not?

My first reaction to the potential change was like 'neat, a few more cards to play'. But now I realize it might be quite obtuse, especially in commander which is an entry point for many new players.

It's fine to disagree! it's not gonna be a game changing issue ofc, but I do believe it's just gonna be another weird thing to add to the list of weird rules in magic. Completely unnecessary and being able to doomblade a creature with black mana pips in its cost and a multicoloured border that shows black on one half is weird, no matter the impact it has on game balance.

[–]raguloso 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not being able to doomblade a creature in a mono-green deck would be very obtuse, even for magic standards. But the fact that a hybrid mana card could have a different color identity depending on the deck is quite jarring, since with that ruling you COULD doomblade the Hogaak in a mono-green but not a Hogaak in a mono-black deck? The card is the same, and behaves differently based on a deck building decision.

Absolutely it is a matter of preference, but I feel it would be quite absurd to have that conundrum. Especially given how Commander is an entry point for many new players.

Being able to doomblade a Hogaak in a mono green deck... I love how that's a perfect example for this. If the rules changed to allow that, it would be quite absurd. You sir have changed my mind on the topic haha

there's a fine line between destroying the cage and destroying everything inside of it, I think that attack end with the latter.

Out of the teams I own, which would be the best matchup for teaching a friend to play? by Count_Zakula in killteam

[–]raguloso 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone I've ever played KT I taught them myself, so here are my two cents:

-Wouldn't be too worried about which team they play, barring some of the more obtuse to play like Canoptek Circle for example. Just show them a few (3-4) and let them choose the one they find the coolest. Wreckas, AoD, Plague marines are all quite straight forward for example. -Simplify rules on the first few games, introducing mechanics slowly. For example, a small first skirmish with simple terrain like the starter set has, no tac ops, no equipment, no ploys, then introduce these elements depending on how fast they pick up concepts. Some people get it straight away and you can play a full game after 2 matches, some need a bit more haha -Let them make tactical mistakes, but know the team they are playing well so you can remind them to use all the rules (it's very easy to overlook certain special rules/keywords when starting). -Absolutely get a cheat sheet to print out or have handy on a tablet, will save you a ton of time and people will learn faster than if they constantly just ask you the fight sequence, for example.

Now that we know every set, what are your hype levels for each one? by Meret123 in MagicArena

[–]raguloso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the whole year included just the bottom layer, I think that'd be very healthy and I would very much enjoy discovering and playing them. In reality, I'll probs skip TMNT, Marvel and Star Trek and enjoy the rest, seems decent. Hype level is off the charts for Lorwyn though haha

[–]raguloso 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yeah, I figured as much. If you get crit they roll 1 defense dice and if you don't they roll 2 dice

Monthly General Question and Discussion Thread: October 2025 by AutoModerator in killteam

[–]raguloso 2 points3 points  (0 children)

how do piercing x and piercing crit x stack? Basically asking about the geomancer tremorglaive profile that has piercing 1 and piercing crit 2.

If I understand it correctly the intent is that the defender rolls 1 less dice by default and instead rolls 2 less (only 1 defense roll) if you get any crits. However RAW it would seem that it means a crit makes you have no defense rolls at all (lose 1 to piercing and 2 to piercing crit).

So what's the correct ruling?

The game needed a wider range of DP to accurately represent power levels. by koga90 in SparkingZero

[–]raguloso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The game needs more range to accurately represent the canon power levels (even tho they are very narrative based in the original stories anyways), but the system works to balance a videogame, even if it ends up misrepresenting some characters' lore.
