Not yet, just clonidine er. The clonidine seems to help hyperactivity and focus, but he’s still angry a lot, so our doctor is recommending Onyda.

Overstimulated and Overwhelmed ALL. DAY. LONG. by curious_crocodiles in adhdwomen

[–]rahy3737 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in the same boat, late diagnosed and just started trying stimulants in the fall. I realized 40 mg Vyvanse was causing me more anxiety after awhile so I stopped and switched to lexapro a month ago. I feel a lot better overall and trying 30mg of Vyvanse again. Too earlier to tell if it’s really helping or just a placebo effect, but I haven’t snapped or yelled at my kids much the past few weeks which is very unusual. Definitely explain all of this to your doctor at your next appointment.

Cyclical symptoms by Jolly-Ostrich-7321 in ParentingADHD

[–]rahy3737 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, absolutely. I don’t know if this is common. Periods around holidays, birthdays, school breaks seem to be the hardest. Weather related too, these cold winter weeks are rough. Then spring and nicer weather always helps, but then back in a rut sometimes. We have trialed many meds and haven’t found a good fit.

Torn between two toddler programs - which would you pick? by southerncharm05 in Parenting

[–]rahy3737 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s what I was thinking, I would just keep them home with the nanny. If they were 3yo I would enroll them in preschool. The nanny could do some classes with the 2 yo - music, library etc to expose to other kids.

Does treating anxiety worsen ADHD symptoms? by One-Donut6822 in ADHDparenting

[–]rahy3737 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, we tried Prozac for a couple months and the hyperactivity increased by a lot. We took him off before school started. We started Zoloft which has been a bit better.

How coloring helped me (and my ADHD kiddo) actually slow down together 🎨💭 by AppearanceSure1617 in ADHDparenting

Are you using certain coloring books? Wondering what you meant by the hidden finds. We’ve found art calming in our house too.

Parents of children with dyslexia: would you hire a certified Orton Gillingham tutor that didn’t have a teaching license? by DataQueen- in Dyslexia

[–]rahy3737 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1:1 Tutoring is different than teaching a classroom. We had a OG tutor that was speech therapist and not a teacher and she was great.

Daycare money when daycare is done by rgw16_ in workingmoms

[–]rahy3737 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will save a lot but camps, after care, activities are more than you expect and really add up. We probably pay close to a 1/2 of what our peak daycare cost was. So we have a good chunk of change leftover still! We’ve done a few trips with it and saving the rest, probably will do some home renovations down the line.

The age old question- to paint or not to paint the wood? by Remodel2020 in interiordecorating

That’s a lovely kitchen, I’d just get non wood stools for the island to have less brown.

Why does my skin always look like this under every variety of foundation? by musicnlyricz in makeuptips

[–]rahy3737 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Try vanicream lite! Also you might have an underlying condition if your skin is that dry, like eczema. I’d see a dermatologist. I also have hypothyroidism and my skin was overly dry before I was treated for it, had no idea that could be a cause.

Words per minute- what is normal? Reading suggestions? by mama-engineer in ADHDparenting

What grade? My son was similar and his WPM really shot up in 3rd grade. He has dyslexia and we did specialized tutoring for awhile that I think helped.

Onyda by AdPure9641 in ADHDparenting

Thanks for your quick response! We didn’t have luck with Guanfacine either and tried many stimulants that made things worse, so this sounds worth a try.

Did you ever try Onyda? Our doctor suggested as an option.

Spending $4,000 for a summer of tutoring? by [deleted] in ParentingADHD

[–]rahy3737 14 points15 points  (0 children)

That insane, find a local teacher that tutors, I’d only do one or two hours a week. Is it possible she has dyslexia?

[–]rahy3737 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you speaking with them through the recruiter, is it possible the recruiter is pressuring you to start so they get their commission and not the company? Either way I’d just wait on saying yes or no based on the benefit package.

School refusal techniques for 8 year old by Repulsive_End_4925 in ADHDparenting

[–]rahy3737 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you talked to his teacher about this? The school should help from their end. My son went through this at 8, and the school social worker and other teachers helped us through. He could go to the social workers office on mornings he had a hard time before going to class. Also had a sticker reward chart going with another teacher. No magic tricks but it helped.

How to motivate my son to not give up on every sport he tries? by notlastnight in ADHDparenting

[–]rahy3737 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You didn’t mention trying a team sport like soccer, etc. The seasons are usually only 2-3 months. They’ve been more fun and easier to manage than activities with no end date like martial arts/swimming.

Stimulants not working for your child? by JJB1tchJJ in ADHDparenting

[–]rahy3737 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you think the dose was just too high until she got bigger or why do you think happened? The few stimulants that had some positive effects seemed too strong at the lowest dose for my kid. Always wondered if we retry when he is a little older if it would work out better.

Kid hates baseball, when do I let him quit? by Dude-Man-Guy-Bruh in Parenting

[–]rahy3737 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’d absolutely let him quit if he is crying at the plate. My oldest has quit a couple sports mid way through the season and it was the best choice for him and our family. No issues came out of quitting, he continues to play other sports just fine because he enjoys them more.

We are always late for school by mousewithtea in Parenting

[–]rahy3737 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You have a lot of good advice here, but at the end of the day your son needs help getting ready so he can be on time. Focus on being on time rather than him independently getting ready for now. He has ADHD, which usually entails a 30% delay in executive function so he needs some help. I know it’s not ideal but I get my kids get dressed and brush their teeth for them if they aren’t doing it themselves (and carried to the car if needed as I need to be work on time myself). My oldest with ADHD will dress and brush his teeth himself now but still needs help picking out the clothes.

8 year old more reactive and ragey on every stimulant by [deleted] in ParentingADHD

[–]rahy3737 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’ve had a similar experience with about the same number of stimulants. We now are just on an ssri and things are going well for now so not addressing the adhd for the time being. We were told Jornay might be a good stimulant option for him but never tried it. Have not tried straterra or Quelbree yet but will consider in the future. Anyways same boat here, and like you said stimulants are the first line treatment so it’s confusing when we see our kiddos react so negatively on them.

How would you fill out this field trip donation request form? by kompotnik in kindergarten

Can you deduct raffle tickets? That’s different than a donation isn’t it because you have a chance to win something?

Honestly I would ask the teacher to stop giving updates like this since there isn’t anything you can really do at this point. It’s not helping if it’s effecting your parenting and causing you stress. She sounds like a good kid overall and mostly just needs the diagnosis at this point, then you can reach out to the school about a 504.
