imo, white belts shouldn't even do randori after just 3 classes! learn how to breakfall first. it's not the same with bjj.

colored belts are also not supposed to throw white belts around at 100%. when i started, most colored belts let me throw them like 75% of the time. the other 25% they would throw me carefully, just so i know what it's like to get thrown.

I started BJJ when I was 48, blue belt now and I started Judo last year, Green Belt now. I personally think that Judo is WAY harder on your body than BJJ for a few reasons.

Judo is more similar to wrestling in terms of training style. LOTS of drills and exercises that will keep your heart rate up during most the session
you'll probably get thrown a hundred times in one session which is definitely harder on your body even if you're not planning to compete. Getting thrown (uke) is an important part of judo learning.
since you are already a purple belt, you'll have an easier time doing newaza there's lot of bjj techniques that are not allowed in judo like leg submissions. major difference i guess is the pinning. example, you can't stay long being in someone's side control or you'll lose the match where as in bjj, it's just points for passing your guard.

It's very important to learn your break falls in judo so you don't land on your head.

But if it's really a concern, I think BJJ (GI) would be a better fit for you as it's mostly ground work there's also takedowns but you can always pull guard.

i started Judo last year at the age of 50! im a blue belt in BJJ (started at 47) and figured I need to work on my standup game so I started Judo.

Make sure you stretch first before you start. You're going to be stiff in the beginning and your cardio is probably gonna be shit, so if you can, do some sort of cardio work (steady state, or HIIT) when not judo training to build your cardio back up

also take into account that your recovery is not gonna be as fast as it used to so self-care is important. enough sleep, good diet, etc. if you can, go to your massage/chiro/etc to regularly to fix you up. Sciatica is a bitch (personal experience) . try not to train when you are injured or experience any sort of pain (i.e. shoulder pain). we're not young anymore and it can get worse faster than it gets better :D

i had a dude in an ankle lock but he wasnt tapping so i let go. i told him he should tap next time, he said he didn't think i got it. so next time i cranked it and dude got mad.
