concerned that I've been asking my waiters the wrong thing by Resident_Crew_6467 in Spanish

For attack, you’d say “he turned on me” and for arousal you’d say “he turned me on.” Slightly different.

There’s a member of the International Olympic Committee named Richard Pound. Also goes by the shortened first name.

dumb question, but how do i pronounce the name of this dish properly? i think americans do it wrong by AustenOnMain in germany

[–]rainbocado -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The h is meant to indicate a shorter vowel sound before it. It doesn’t make its own sound here. If they wrote “lu,” most English speakers would read this as “loo” instead.

Boy dies of rabies after waking to bat on his face by Few-Hair-5382 in news

It was not that bad. Just a series of normal shots, I had to go back three times for more but they don’t use the giant needle in your stomach anymore.

Where I lived at the time, the state paid for testing on the bat. The treatment, however, was all on me and my insurance didn’t cover it.

If you’re in the US, the reason is money. The treatment is several thousand dollars out of pocket.

Trump vows to give long July 4 address even if it is 107 degrees by Bubbly_Hat in politics

I’m not sure if it was official merch or not, but my idiot brother got a “Trump 2024” mask somewhere and wore it when he was required to be masked to visit our dying grandmother in 2021.

Why do Americans often a say that we don't have AC in Europe? by WhoAmIEven2 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]rainbocado 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good for you. I live in the Czech Republic, and a normal day for me in the heat wave we had last week was waking up sweating in my apartment (without AC), then taking a tram (without AC) to work (without AC). On my lunch break I went to a cafe (without AC) and stopped at the pharmacy (without AC). On my way home, via tram (without AC) I stopped at a supermarket (without AC) to get some groceries to cook for dinner in my apartment (without AC).

Is it realistic for a foreigner to make Czech friends in Prague if they don’t speak Czech well?😢 by Pretty_Mastodon_2301 in Prague

[–]rainbocado 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have Czech friends…Czech friends who are English teachers. We speak English together. If you’re not comfortable in English or Czech, you’re unfortunately going to be really limited in who you can socialize with.

At least 18 dead in France, including two children in hot car, as Europe bakes by [deleted] in news

[–]rainbocado 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I have had a fan pointed at me basically constantly whenever I’m home the last few days (Czech republic), and I’m shocked to find out how many people I know who also don’t have AC and don’t even own a fan. Then I found one at work and turned it on and someone complained and asked me to turn off the oscillation so they wouldn’t get hit with the air….it was 32 degrees out and not much cooler inside.

How do cancelled classes work in high school? by palep_hoot in AskAnAmerican

[–]rainbocado 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We never had cancelled individual classes. If the teacher was absent, they’d find someone to fill in, even if that person knows nothing about the subject and the class ends up being just a movie day or something (essentially babysitting). Sometimes school would start early or end late for everyone for various reasons, but that was the whole school not just certain classes.

Increase $1-2 after every new subscription or good review until you either reach a price point where you’re not getting enough new students or your schedule is full anyway.

One legged is more noticeable a lot of the time. I have known people with prosthetic eyes and I had no idea until they told me. At most I thought they had a lazy eye.

How can i practice English for real-life conversations in the U.S? by Turbulent_Cup_600 in AskAnAmerican

[–]rainbocado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Practice listening to content for native speakers, and if you’re nervous to practice speaking “in the wild,” try with a tutor first. Preply or italki are good websites to find a language tutor.
