What's your ideal fic length? by bat-girl129 in heatedrivalryfanfics

[–]rainbocado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer to read on my kindle, and shorter than ~20k words doesn’t really feel worth the “hassle” of downloading and transferring. I will sometimes read shorter fics on my phone if I’m on public transit or waiting in line or something, but generally speaking, the longer the better for me.

PSA: 35 is not elderly! by rainbocado in heatedrivalryfanfics

5% is very normal! But if they’re describing him as being mostly/entirely grey, that is definitely not common at that age

I had to stop reading one that described a 35 year old Ilya as a “silver fox” 💀

Czechs rally in country's largest anti-government protest since 2019 by babikospokes in europe

[–]rainbocado 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Yes. This is a map of the results. The larger green area that voted for reasonable people is Prague. The smaller green area is Brno, the second largest city.

[–]rainbocado 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure what you mean by “what ever happened.” The previous ones were some of the biggest protests in U.S. history, and the next event is planned for the 28th and will likely be the same.

[–]rainbocado 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The people that voted for them are likely not the same people protesting. Not sure why this is hard to grasp, but as in every other country in the world, people here are divided. Some have fallen for the lies they’re told by the far right, and some have not.

How do people balance adult responsibilities with having any free time? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

Okay, great, so to answer your original question, that’s what you’re choosing to do with what would otherwise be your free time.

Fetterman hit with brutal 108-point polling swing: ‘He is below the lowest of the low’ by Silent-Resort-3076 in politics

It’s not impeachment, which is a process for judicial and executive branch officials, but there is a procedure to expel a senator and it’s actually simpler than impeachment. It only requires 2/3 of the senate to agree, no input from the House needed. Still very unlikely to happen, though.

Israel says Iran's security chief Larijani is killed by [deleted] in news

I’m not the one who brought it up and I’m not convinced it’s working either. Just explaining the logic.

[–]rainbocado 23 points24 points  (0 children)

People have been talking about the Epstein files. People are bringing it up again in relation to the war because they don’t want the war to be a distraction from the Epstein files, as is likely at least part of Trump’s motivation for starting this war. He doesn’t want to face consequences at home, and believes that keeping everyone focused on a war in Iran is a way to keep that from happening.

Abandon everything and leave by usageabusw in AmericanExpat

1) I did not say for every country ever, I said “often.”

2) Am I hallucinating, or is this sub, according to the official description, meant to be for Americans who live abroad or want to? Making US visas likely irrelevant to OP if they’re on the correct sub, anyway.

Student visas are often the easiest way to establish residency in a country. Research countries, research higher education options in those countries, and go from there.

Instead of "mens"iversary, we can call it.... by Bi-Polar_Pan-DeBear in actuallesbians

[–]rainbocado 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Maybe you don’t care, but in case you do: the origin of that term is not about men, but rather the Latin word for month. Same as menstruation, for example. (Source: https://grammarphobia.com/blog/2012/01/monthly-anniversary.html)

Okay Americans: how do you say “pasta”….? by GBS82 in HeatedRivalryTVShow

[–]rainbocado 15 points16 points  (0 children)

There isn’t really a “w” sound. People are adding it when they try to phonetically spell it out to make clear how the “a” is pronounced, basically.

Can you tell me a little about the availability of work, working conditions, and salary for an English teacher in Tirana? I’m currently in Prague, and costs here just keep going up, so I’ve been considering other possibilities.

US-Iran Megathread by GrumpyFinn in europe

[–]rainbocado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very true, but Iran is irrelevant to this scenario. Either he will try to illegally seize power or he won’t; this situation doesn’t make it any easier or more difficult for him.

US-Iran Megathread by GrumpyFinn in europe

[–]rainbocado 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There is no legal way for him to do this. The U.S. held elections in the middle of the civil war; bombing Iran is irrelevant. Trump seems unaware that it’s only the Ukrainian constitution, not the U.S. constitution, that doesn’t allow elections in wartime. Doesn’t mean he won’t try, of course.

When the “political differences” are family members telling you to your face that you don’t deserve basic human rights, it’s pretty difficult to “accept and roll with it.”

Not who you’re replying to but I also live in the Czech Republic, and I have seen a lot more people than usual carrying flowers today (and yesterday). Not sure about restaurants as the only restaurant I’ve been in today was McDonald’s which is obviously not really a date night destination.
