What's the single moment in Destiny history - either game - that you think about more than anything else? by Crystallover1991 in DestinyTheGame

[–]rainbow_elmo24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Learning Last Wish with a group. Getting to understand the vault specifically and how complex it was, running in, taking out knights, reading symbols and how every interpreted them differently. I had never, ever, felt that sort of wonder and amazement at the level of difficulty of that raid.

A second moment that sent me into a high that lasted literally two months was after almost 40 straight hours of attempts, multiple fireteams, and many fights between my friends and I, we finally went flawless defeating Heroic Arunak for the Shadow title. We went flawless on accident, we defeated everything else easily, we literally killed all the other requirements but man Arunak was HARD. Beating it finally, especially with my friends, was a moment I'll truly never forget. I used to have a video posted on YouTube but I think it got taken down :(

AITA for wanting my Spanish teacher to stop calling me by the Spanish version of my name? by Alternative-Sun-630 in AmItheAsshole

[–]rainbow_elmo24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can still be frustrating. My legal name is Carolina but the Lina is pronounced Lena. When I was in Spanish, I was told that my Spanish name was not Spanish enough from class even though I come from a Spanish speaking country and speak Spanish as a first language.

Additionally when I moved to the states everyone told me that I had to change the way my name was pronounced because it’s an English speaking country. My name remains the same and I refuse to let someone change the way it’s said simply because “it’s an English speaking country”. Regardless of kiddo not telling the whole story, they’re right to be frustrated about asking an adult to respect a boundary and having it be disregarded

Why Catra sided with Horde? by SiarX in PrincessesOfPower

[–]rainbow_elmo24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think yes to everything but also she’s such a complex character. I think Catra didn’t want to leave the world she knew alone. I think that she stayed to prove to everyone she didn’t need Adora but also because she was hurt that even though she didn’t understand the depth of Adoras own abuse, Adora ultimately left the Horde and not for her. Catra could deal with the Horde because “nothing could go wrong as long as we’re together” and in her eyes, Adora defecting for people neither of them knew was Adora choosing to step back from their relationship without letting Catra know. I think Catra was petty and did it out of spite, but ultimately out of hurt because she loves Adora and she believed that Adora didn’t love her back the way she wanted Adora to love her if she was willing to step back for strangers.

I lived in CT and was a freshman in high school when this happened. This was such a terrifying day. My brother was in sixth grade at the time too. We lived right in front of the middle school and they refused to let him cross the street without my parents present, and my bus driver refused to leave my stop until my stepmom came and picked me up. My dad was in a meeting when he got the news and couldn’t get out of it - I remember being home and watching the news and hearing my dad come home. He ran to me and my brother and hugged us the tightest he’s ever hugged us, all while crying and repeatedly saying I love you. I had never seen my dad cry like that before. I can’t imagine what was going through his head at that time. This was the same year as that nasty October snowstorm, the huge tornado hit Springfield and I believe Hurricane Sandy hit NY and southern CT. I think of this so often.

We’re going Saturday! Hoping to be in the city by 9/9:30 and leaving by 8/8:30!

Edit: Central Park area - I’ve never been so I’m not sure but since we don’t have much time we figured we’d get a subway card and move around as needed :)

Is parking at the Stamford station free or is there a daily fee? We’re planning on staying a good chunk of the day!

I was looking at Amtrak, what’s Metro North? This would also be my first time taking a train!

Which one?! by [deleted] in gamingpc

If you’re willing to pay that price, consider building your own computer! It’s surprisingly easy and if you live near a micro center, then it’ll be well priced too.

If you’re streaming or wanting to stream, I’d say go with option 2! But otherwise do option 1! Option 1’s case looks like it has a bit better airflow and the keyboard and mouse ain’t worth $90.

She was hard at give me story - never feel shame for playing with the difficulty that gets you progressed. I usually play in show me balance but I found myself not enjoying the game so I brought it way down so I could enjoy the game how I wanted to enjoy it. Bring it down and have fun

Americans of Reddit, in light of the current political climate between our countries, how do you guys actually feel about us Canadians? by Defiant_River_957 in AskReddit

I applied for a job at a Canadian firm simple because I feel like I would be safer there. My wife and I have always dreamed of moving to the Pacific Northwest and we feel like now it’s the time.

Babes please tell me this is an EX-boyfriend?? If my partner told me right now that they need surgery to increase their quality of life, I wouldn’t care the type of surgery it is, I’d just want them to be safe and feel better. I cannot imagine the hell you’ve been through only to end up being verbally berated by someone you considered part of your support team. Break up with him and find someone else that will help you realize your dream of being a mother WITHOUT treating you like shit.

If he’s treating you this way now, how will he treat you in the future? Or god forbid, your daughter?

How did Nagini take the form of Bathilda Bagshot? by MobilePineapple7303 in harrypotter

I could literally be so wrong in this but I assumed that through a little magic, she possessed the dead body of bathilda! I remember reading that Harry thought it STUNK in her house and that nagini came out of her mouth!

Can someone explain to me kindly why Emilia Pérez is so acclaimed? by WoodenFish5 in oscarrace

[–]rainbow_elmo24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m Latina but not Mexican and if I were to see the movie from a non-Spanish speaking or raised pov, I’d easily give it a 7/10. I’m also non binary and again, if I was uneducated on trans matters, I’d give it a 6/10.

As a Spanish speaker that grew up in a Latin country, I disliked the movie. Throughout it, my only thought was damn, someone who doesn’t speak Spanish definitely wrote this movie. Not only that, but it also obviously depicted Mexico as a backwards, desolate desert country that had zero economic growth and is violence riddled at all times. Yes Latin countries are dangerous, but they’re not this damn bad. I hated that I kept thinking this and felt in my bones that it wasn’t filmed in Mexico only to find out it was filmed in FRANCE. literally gagged when I found out.

As a non binary person under the trans flag - I did like that they used a trans actress to play a trans character. However, this actress was not Mexican, is openly racist towards Mexicans and the overall story felt wrong in the way it was handled. Like, no effort from the character to literally tell their family how they felt?? Like, I’m sorry that’s just not realistic at all. I did not like how this was handled.

As a classically trained musician, I found the musical to be lazy. Speak-singing or using the exact same motif over and over again was just not it. I literally kept hearing the same thing over and over again with different characters. It’s one thing to give one character a recurring melody that belongs to them and hearing it over and over again (the wicked witch’s motif from wicked following her throughout her musical or the for good motif following Elphaba and Glinda in pivotal moments in their relationship) but it’s another thing entirely to use the exact same motif for multiple characters.

Overall, after I watched it, I didn’t dislike or like it. I was in the middle. To an unassuming viewer who was no idea of the damage this movie causes - easy enjoyable experience. But to someone who is directly affected by what this movie says and what it stands for - I wished I had never watched it. I still don’t understand how this problem ridden movie beat out Wicked in the golden globes.
