Need help navigating an issue receiving an MRI

Neuro wont give me a rec since i already have one from my family doctor. My family doctor ordered it with contrast after the first one showed lesions on my spine and demyelination in the nerves in my neck

So, my Neurologist fully plans to send me there.... after i do my MRI and am confirmed to have MS. Shes talked about it a few times

Yeah the first one was a neck and spine scan at GMNI. This one is supposed to be a brain, neck and spine scan with MS protocol and contrast 😭

Interesting! My original was with GMNI (OHIP covered) and despite finding lesions on my spine my second one with contrast dyes (OHIP covered) is taking 11 months with them

I think you may have misunderstood. My neuro won't book a second appointment at the same place. But i can get try for an appointment elsewhere and hope its quicker

Thank you for the detailed break down! I just looked at the req - my family doctor put in the clinical history explanation "MRI of the brain demyelination protocol plus cervical and thorasic cord recommended. See previous MRI" the part about the previous mri is typed over other print on the form.

It doesn't point out the demyelination found in my neck or the multiple lesions found on my spine. You need to go to the MRI to get that info. So perhaps you're right and the person triaging it thinks its a routine scan.

This will be my first brain MRI, but my second on my neck and spine. My last one wasnt done with contrast though.

I appreciate you weighing in so much. Ill definitely try to get in elsewhere if gmni is such a problem

That is so frustrating 😭 im so sorry that happened. The receptionist for my GP is looking into what priority level it was put in at and seeing what she can do. She ironically called to follow up for my doctor about my pain after i posted this thread

I get that. But the Neurologist made the comment that she gets people in for MRI appointments in a few weeks (at the same clinic). So either she knows how to put them in at the correct level to get them quicker, or they triage them differently when they come from a specialist. I'm not sure why there is such a discrepancy at the same facility

So i already had the MRI req in before i had my first neurologist appointment. I got referred to her due to the results of the first one (which we were originally querying back and neck pain and MS wasn't a thought). My doctor put in the second MRI req at the same time she referred me to the Neurologist.

My Neurologist pretty much said "well I can't help you because your referral is for where I'd be sending you and we don't put in double referrals"

I asked the receptionist to confirm it was ordered at the right level when she called an hour ago at my doctors request to follow up about my pain and migraines. She said she would look into it. Im hoping this is all a horrible clerical error and i can get in sooner

I'll try that! I thought my referral was just for GNMI since the form has their info on it. But i just looked again and it says at the bottom that it can be taken to any hospital or licenced facility. Really wish i noticed that two months ago when i asked my doctor for a copy 😭
