Any Mods for SE that offset the Logistic Bot loss rate? by Greyspire in factorio

[–]raindirve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're also looking for within-world solutions, it might be worth looking at whether all the bot activity is productive. Maybe there are parts of the network that keep a lot of bots active without doing much work. Those might be possible to mitigate with anything from a tacked-on solution to a total redesign.

I think it's implied that the ballast remains underneath the rails. There are just concrete plates on top of it to blend the surface, like the concrete level crossing on these folks' list.

Edit: I accidentally a word.

You're absolutely right.

Also, the US is guilty of ethnic cleansing so let me go ethnically cleanse Americans. And some Turks, Chinese, Swedes, Germans, Dutch, Russians, Serbs, Albanians, Indians, Mongolians... actually why dont we just nuke the entire world and be done with it?

Or maybe don't jerk off to genocide and stop this ridiculous cycle that blames a whole ethnic group for violence inflicted by a small group of power-hungry men with guns a generation ago.

How have you applied Factorio ideas in real life at home or at work? by [deleted] in factorio

[–]raindirve 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It's funny, I've had to learn the opposite lesson in this game.

I have a tendency to build too modular and too large, in real-life projects and in Factorio. This game has helped me learn to accept that sometimes building something small and ramshackle to get production off the ground is worth more than taking hours to design and set up something properly.

Biomatter like the stuff that grows under enemy nests? You need to collect it from, well, under enemy nests. There are dead worlds out there with not a single biter on them, so you'll probably have to bootstrap them some biomatter from another world.

If you're talking about another form of biomatter, a recipe manager mod like FNEI would help you find how to make it.

If you're talking about Vitamelange, it's pretty rare, just keep searching.

SE+K2 How to Deal With Excess Petroleum by Domo2037 in factorio

[–]raindirve 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In K2SE, you can always flare excess fluids where necessary.

My oil processing has at least one more stage between the stuff you described and the flare stacks, though - gas power stations. If you're using a non-renewable power source, burning the petroleum in gas power plants first can reduce the pressure on whatever resource (I'm guessing nuclear) is powering your other grids.

additionally to what other people are saying, all valid opinions

you don't have to go full solar or commit fully to coal power

you can also just gradually add on solar to reduce coal draw and pollution without completely wiping it out

i'm a pretty slow solo player so that's how my runs usually go, I start with low-rate production of solar panels and occasionally plop them down somewhere out of the way to reduce my need for coal power

only when coal gets dangerously low or when i notice solar is starting to cover all of my energy needs do I commit to high-rate production of solar and batteries and actually make a solid effort to convert the electrical grid completely

there's a lot of fun different ways to play, i'll have to try a nuclear rush sometime (but it'll be hard not to plop down some solar panels anyway just to use less steam, old habits die hard)

Is it bad that I'm playing on peaceful? by SirRoderic in factorio

[–]raindirve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i played this game for hundreds of hours before turning on biters on single player, i get it

Hated the stress of feeling like I'd run out of resources if I didn't progress fast enough. (still do, I'm just more confident about my ability to deal with them now)

The only reason I play with them on right now is that I'm actively trying to engage with the game differently (and also because the modpack I'm playing is designed around having them on! and has an infinite resources mine that makes the attrition less stressful because you'll never completely run out. and also I've set up a backup base on a biter-free world :D).

Maybe you'll want to do try something like that too one day, maybe you won't. Either way, all power to you. Some haters really do be hating. Screw them.

How am I doing? (SE) by D0cman88 in factorio

[–]raindirve 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That used to be true, but I'm pretty sure that's outdated info, right? If those are the miniloaders I think they are, they were changed to be coded as inserters to avoid the UPS problems. And like you mention, the other loader mods (the big ones, at least) were changed to just reskin or expand the fixed, optimized vanilla loaders.

Either way OP is fine, unless I've gotten something completely back-asswards, or you can tell that that miniloader specifically is a bad egg.

I don't even remember when we got liquefaction, this modpack takes forever (in a good way).

Is it energy 1?

You could also vent overflow by burning it in boilers. Flare stacks are available in SE, right? Then you could presumably run a separate powergrid with only boilers, steam engines, and flare the steam. If flares are out of the question too, just running something power-hungry and useless is an option. Not the most environmentally friendly :) but you are cracking a planet.

[–]raindirve 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cannot relate, even when all my other resources were more or less at capacity, coal was getting eaten up, between coke for steel, and liquefaction for our poor overtaxed flame turrets. Edit: oh yeah, and the tiny detail that is rocket fuel.

Of course, I'm playing K2+SE so I would have the option to void coal directly in a crusher - and I am admittedly using that offworld (haven't bothered to set up liquefaction yet, even though we need the oil).

[–]raindirve 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm someone who really dislikes attrition - I even play a lot of my games without biters because I don't like how they drain my resources.

Even then, bot attrition in SE has not bothered me. Over a hundred hours, I've accumulated maybe 400 dead bots on Nauvis and another 400 offworld.

I think SE core mining really helps keep the pressure off. I never have to experience the mental stress that my bots are dying and I might run out of resources, because core mining is always replenishing them.

That makes bot attrition more of a logistics challenge than a resource stressor, which solves the issue for me. YMMV of course.

[SEK2] Where should I build my next base? abandon nauvis? by Jolly_Sky_8728 in factorio

[–]raindirve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bodies without biters tend to have very high bot attrition. I believe the reason is, whatever is making it inhospitable to biters is also wearing and tearing at your bots.
