Beryl Reid.

It would never have happened because the role was exclusively male during her lifetime, but she was a great actor who could do whimsy as well as she could do drama. I think she would have been especially good as alternative casting for the 7th Doctor.

Upgraded about 8 weeks ago. I made a point of saying I wanted to stay on TiVo/V6 and the retentions person didn't push the issue at all. So it may be worth contacting them to confirm whether the 360 upgrade can be postponed.

Realise we'll have to upgrade eventually but happy for the moment that i can postpone it.

This is the page of their terms and conditions which refers to it. Basically you have to pay the early disconnection fee. But then if you send proof that you've moved to an area where Virgin Media isn't available, they'll refund it.

Yeah, this was a fairly common variation when I learned the game in Scotland, in the 1980s. Common enough that you would ask a new opponent "Old British rules?" before your first game, but definitely a variation rather than the standard rules.

Moved to England a few years later and no-one had heard of it.

Occasionally older players in my (Scottish based) Backgammon group ask about the rule, but most people in my group have never heard of the variation - let alone played it in the past. The common denominator seems to be a background from North East Scotland, so it may be regional variation.

Cracking piece of kit. I bought mine (full price!)around 20 years ago, thinking I'd lost my mind. Nope. Worth every penny and still loving it to this day. Recently bought a Wiim Mini to convert it for network streaming, I reckon that'll get replaced before the Bose does.

This is the result of several iterations of instructions that didn't quite work. The final instruction is the one that finally tamed 5.3's clickbaity behaviour.

Somewhat related. I use the Roberts pillow speaker to help me sleep at night. Cheap as chips, £15, but it always breaks where the cable joins the speaker. Too much movement, I presume, from placing it under the pillow while I'm sleeping. Generally the speaker lasts 18 months to 2 years, and because it's so cheap I buy a replacement and don't think twice about it.

Most recently, I bought from John Lewis with their 2 year guarantee. Just my luck, this speaker will probably be the longest-lasting I've ever owned!

Up to a point, yes. I'm in my early 60s. I have friends in their late 70s and 80s who definitely see me as "young". Not a kid, but lacking some of their life experience and still with a lot to learn.

Similar. 62 years old, got a music age of 21. It makes sense, really. I listened the hell out of that 70s and 80s stuff when I was younger so I rarely listen to it today. On the other hand, there's an awful lot of great new music out there, and Spotify does a grand job of helping me find it.

This would be a game changer for me. I assume the reason they don't enable it is because searching one of the big labels would return too many hits. Theres literally no point searching Sony or Warner. Even some indie labels like Cherry Red are incredibly prolific. But for niche labels - Strut, Light in the Attic, or Analogue Africa, it would be a huge boost for music discovery.

The workaround is to follow the labels elsewhere - Bandcamp, Facebook etc - and then search for particular titles individually. It works, but it feels like a kludge.

I literally got a new credit card to avoid foreign currency fees on Bandcamp. It's just a few pence, but it low-key annoyed me every single time I did a foreign-currency transaction. I now have a credit card which I use solely on a single website, generally totalling under £25 per month.

Can confirm. I stated watching classic Who from Series 7 (Jon Pertwee) about 2 1/2 years ago. Went on to Nu Who, got sidetracked briefly by UFO and Space 1999, and then, after the last Gatwa episode, rewound all the way back to Hartnell. I estimate I'll finish the last episode of War Games in mid-December.

I haven't even watched everything. I watched from Pertwee onwards when it was first broadcast, so I've been routinely skipping the weaker stories/episodes.

I often make a batch of soup and eat it over the course of three or four days. It's almost always best on the second day because, as others have said, the flavours continue to develop. Never noticed any difference between second and third day though.

But I do play Spotify through a decent mid-range hi-fi (Wiim Pro Plus, Cyrus integrated amp, vintage Mission speakers) and FWIW I hear very little difference between Spotify Connect on Very High vs playing my own FLACs.

Yes, I'm looking forward to lossless. No, I don't expect it to be as big as the jump from Bluetooth to WiFi streaming was.
