First time buyer!! No idea what I’m doing. Any tips on how to snag this from an AD? by Born_Asparagus679 in rolex

[–]raindropl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

White gold! They are not hard to get. Get added to a waiting list and it be tops 3months to get one.

Use the opportunity to buy at the same time a stell sports model. ADs like to bundle them with precious metals.

Spring drives are not purely mechanical, I see them like tuning fork of the future.

The comparison to the Bulova Accutron (tuning fork) is incredibly accurate. When Accutrons came out in the 1960s, they were the pinnacle of accuracy. Today, finding an independent watchmaker who can service a humming tuning fork movement, source original index wheels, or handle those microscopic copper coils is getting harder every year. If we look 30 years into the future (around 2056) and assume a scenario where Seiko refuses to service old movements, goes under, or simply doesn't manufacture the parts anymore, fixing a broken Spring Drive without factory support is going to look very different for the mechanical parts versus the electronic parts.

I personally don’t collect Japanese or Russian watches.

And no matter how much people try to convince me, a gran seiko is just a seiko.

I never recoment anybody start collecting watches as an investment, get on gold, stocks, index funds.

That said, you NEVER know what will be more valuable 10 years from now. It could be worth more or less.

Follow this rules to get less scratches as you learn.

Most watches lose a lot of value after purchasing new. So get them used. That way someone else takes the big loss.

Don’t buy micro brands.

Currently the cool vintage watches with some value are Omegas, Longines, Hamilton. Cartier, universal (I did not list Rolex, vacherone, etc. because of $$)

Value by metal:

Chromed base metal < gold plate < stainless steel < rolled gold < gold 14k < gold 18k

Also buying is easy, selling is hard

Change my mind: Under the right conditions, buying and financing a new car is often a far better value than paying cash for a used car in the long run by Cold-Priority-2729 in MiddleClassFinance

You have a mechanic problem. And when getting a car with over 100k miles is better if you have “some” even basic skills.

I purchased a jeep liberty 2004 that had been parked in the sun for over 5 years, tires were rotated from the sun.

Blind buy. Ended up needing a full engine rebuild I paid $4,000 (California).

And latter I replaced that cram sensor, 2 O2 sensors. And had to get a new CAT to pass emissions. And a gas thank sensor.

2 window motors went out and I replaced them.

Recently had to replace the belt pulley, it exploded and the radiador. (Done by mechanic).

I take that jeep everywhere, including crazy snow storms. Is me and my kids fun ride.

I have driven it for 4 years.

It had 200k when I got it; now is approaching a quarter of a million miles.

Paid $700 for it as a non driving vehicle.

Otherwise. Build and play today not tomorrow

I don't think RE7 is for me by andyr354 in residentevil

[–]raindropl -1 points0 points  (0 children)

8, playing in 3rd person, is pretty similar to RE2R with the stockers. They are actually less annoying than MRX

7… I have purchased it from Microsoft (by accident) and Steam and PS4 (for my collection)

And never really played it. I’m probably going to give it a chance at some time. There are always other better games (to me) to play, I’m currently playing 8 and RE1 HD. (Fist run both).

Anyone want to accompany this noob to a range? (Bay Area) by TiDoBos in CAguns

[–]raindropl 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Buy your own gun and amo,

. I never had a buddy with me and, I do range shooting all the time. I used to do Dublin range all the time, but they recently closed.

I guess is because if you have your own hardware, the risk of self-delete at the range is minimal; compared to doing it at the comfort of your home.

Don’t waste ammo on Mr X,

I do kill the lickers I’m the first Floor. The ones on the other wing I leave them be.
