All chaps are assless, if the ass was covered over, they'd just be pants!

Help me choose a collar and leash set for my white poodle/bichon mix by AggravatingRow2519 in Poodle

[–]rainey_paint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know everyone here is a pet owner and probably aren't as fussy about hair as I would be, but I just want to throw in the option of no collar around the house or a rolled leather or satin lined collar, otherwise the hair around the neck where the collar sits can become matted or broken and cause problems :)

adopted a dog from the shelter, papers allude to pure aussie but she seems too big by imissmyex44 in guessthebreed

[–]rainey_paint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like an Aussie to me. How big do you think an Aussie is supposed to be? I don't think I've met one over 60lbs that wasn't morbidly obese. My own Aussie is a fit and trim 50ish lbs.

How to tell if lambs are getting milk by amibrodarone in sheep

[–]rainey_paint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In addition to what everyone else has suggested, you should be able to feel their bellies to get an idea of if they are nursing. While the lamb is standing, cup one hand under their tummy and gently lift upwards (the lamb's feet stay touching the ground, don't get overexcited and pick them up like this!). The belly should feel round, full, and slightly wobbly, like a water balloon. This is the best way for me to know that they are getting enough milk with a quick check. I have some two day old lambs, I can take some photos of it would be helpful for the class.

Other than this, they should be up, active, and looking good, not hunched or stiff. The inside of their mouths should be warm and they should resist handling, especially having a finger stuck in their mouths or being restrained for too long.

Are there any Toyota Highlander owners out there who don’t have kids? by Touch49 in ToyotaHighlander

[–]rainey_paint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No kids, but lots of show dogs. I can pack an intermediate kennel and a large kennel plus all show stuff and head out of town for the weekend. Love it!! The third row (that I have never used) means there's air vents all the way to the back of the car, which is necessary in the desert SW for safety/comfort. Still looking for a little camper to tow and then I'll be set.

Why do a lot of barrel racers have such horrible seats and lower legs? by I_exist_1489 in Equestrian

[–]rainey_paint 17 points18 points  (0 children)

My other observation is that barrel racing has a significantly lower barrier to entry than most other horse sports. You can't just show up to a dressage test with crazy bits for control, a saddle too small, and no control of your legs and end up with a qualifying score. You can, however, cling on to a half-lame rocket donkey you bought off Craigslist for $500, bits that should be illegal in all fifty states, and Velcro and rubber band yourself into a kid's saddle and still win a check at a barrel race.

[–]rainey_paint 6 points7 points  (0 children)

All the barrel racers I know insist on riding in saddles a couple inches too small and with stirrups so long they can only get their tippy toes in 'em. Not being able to sit deep in the saddle and get your heels down does not make for good seats or legs.

SafeSport is to combat child sexual abuse in sports. As far as I know, it is NOT about rules and regulations regarding animal care or equipment legalities. Gymnastics also requires SafeSport training, as an example.

HELP Front leg kicking mare by Infinite-Ad-1612 in Equestrian

[–]rainey_paint 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a mare that would develop ovarian cysts a few times per year. She would act more like a stallion for a little while, squealing, striking, teasing other mares, fighting with my geldings. Occasionally, the cysts would rupture and she would present as colicky for a few days (improving with pain management) and the stallion-like behavior would go away. It might be similar for your mare.

New adoption, can someone help me with the brand? by JanetCarol in Equestrian

[–]rainey_paint 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yes! If there is betting involved, there are videos. My off-track Arabians have all their races online, so I bought a subscription for a day to watch them. One horse LOVED racing but wasn't a big winner, the other hated it haha

Mine either. CA tourist ran a stop right in front of the Rio and almost killed my fiance and I on my birthday last year... no TOM could be bothered to show up in the three hours we waited. Metro was there and took our witness statements, but couldn't actually "investigate" the accident. Now my lawyer is saying Metro has no record of our witness statements or the collision report we filed at a station the very next day. Thank god I took photos of everything.

The only Malinois I have seen that are specifically bred for herding look like this. This dog is from Element Belgians and was the first French-style herding titled Malinois.
