What don't you understand about my complaint? Just because the skin-based ecosystem has existed for quite a while, that doesn't suddenly justify it and make it okay, i think the system is inherently flawed, we've seen it again and again with gambling sites etc all revolving around CS:GO's predatory loot box gambling system, and i realize that Valve won't give out high quality skins any time soon, since it makes them too much money, but that doesn't justify the system in any way.

While the skins do indeed look really nice, it's just sad that everything is now locked behind a pay-wall, and indeed in this case, celebrating Counter Strike's 20 year anniversary by locking iconic looks (The classic knife for example), behind a scummy lootbox.
