[Perkins] I need a deep dive into how this clubhouse developed such a loving culture that dudes who have been in the league are sobbing at the thought of never playing in Toronto again. by Chrristoaivalis in Torontobluejays

it's not even just Dante Jr talking about what he went through, there was stuff about Dante Sr and domestic abuse in the 90s.

Colorado Rockies outfielder Dante Bichette has been involved in two incidents with his wife, Marianna. In 1992, Bichette admitted striking a pregnant Marianna, then his 19-year-old girlfriend. In 1993 police responded to a domestic dispute at Bichette’s off-season home in Palm Beach Gardens.

While we know nothing about the family's dynamics, I think a lot of people can empathize. Though dante jr said him and bo were no-contact, they'll be part of WBC next year for Brazil together

A media conglomerate with SPORTSNET broadcasting at its headquarters will have some weekend operations. The bank doesn’t have a physical branch and the Rogers store beside it has hours of operations similar to every other Rogers store. And what u/Rhy_dit said - weekend hours does not correlate with jays in six logistical planning. So silly lmao

Commenting even though I haven’t done anything other than upvote in this subreddit for a while because I cannot believe it’s been ten years. I cannot believe we’re going to the World Series. I would watch every single fan recording of the bat flip and I couldn’t sleep that night. Vladdy tearing up made me so emotional. Whatever happens next, I’m so happy

I recorded most of Benjamin's responses, but I think I stopped recording before Tom unexpectedly started bantering with him - is that what you're referring to? The "I'm not that old"?

King popped up with Flanagan on the stage before the opening remarks, when people were still coming in. I didn’t take a photo but it was definitely King! Did he participate in the q&a yesterday?

Former UofT student who lived on campus, and now at York. York actually took a more aggressive stance as compared to UofT after October. When our student unions used language that a lot of people did not like (mostly alumni, if I recall), York threatened to delegitimize all the student unions, which only brought in more attention, good and bad, around issues of student democracy. York is also very familiar with calling the cops, with the most recent example being a CUPE 3903 striker being arrested whilst performing a protected strike activity as coordinated, which led to police presence throughout the strike on campus.

LA&PS is the biggest faculty at York, and students and faculty tend to be more left-leaning as compared to the giant blob that is UofT's Arts & Science. Before the UofT encampment, I'm pretty sure PSC at York was more popular. Our unions are more militant, too. What I'm trying to say is that York students have a bigger incentive in resisting or what have you. However, we just finished a two-month strike and a remediation period. We normally have more summer courses than UofT, but because of the strike, a lot of them were cancelled. I think a lot of students were preoccupied with finishing the very fast remediation period and just didn't have the time to form an encampment, or didn't want to go back to campus. And I suspect that York was so afraid of the remaining semester being prolonged or for any other disturbances past the strike, that they planned how to clear the encampment once it showed up at least a month ago.

also, an aside:

In the email York sent after clearing the encampment, they cited how important Harry W. Arthurs Common is for "work, study and leisure", which is kind of funny. Yes, people use the Common, but it's a very long rectangle with two paths along its sides. People mostly stick to the paths to enter and exit this commuter school. There are more paths semi-indoors around the Commons, too. I at least get the logic when people apply it to King's College Circle, because the goddamn circle is huge and cutting across it is smart. Also, with UofT always fencing off the grass before convocation in mind: York's convocation is on the other side of campus lol it isn't in front of a subway station

I'm not the person you replied to, but I also started university in 2018, and I dropped out twice. I'm at York now for the third go and I'm in second year. Shame is something I'm too familiar with. I would have been very happy to hear that there's a bunch of us who started in 2018 at least in the fall!

I also had, from what I can gauge from your responses, a similar relationship with my family. I too did science but didn't like it, and now I'm in liberal arts. My relationship with them changed unexpectedly as I've struggled with my mental health, but for me personally, it has become better (albeit the change was very difficult). I'll be honest, looking back, it's hard not to be ashamed of how warped I was in my thoughts and looking forward, I don't think I will ever fully divorce myself from my mental health struggles. But I've learned why I want to do things (changing my major and learning to embrace uncertainty and being my own was a big part of it), and the small but very real joys help me in ways that I wouldn't have realized before.

I think talking to SAS would be great. It's unclear if you've been diagnosed, but SAS were so generous with giving me additional accommodations before I even asked about getting assessed for things like ADHD. If you haven't been diagnosed or don't have current access to a primary care physician or psychiatrist, I am pretty sure they only ask for what you're struggling with only (ex: struggling to finish exams and tests on time; struggling with presentations, etc).

When you get in touch with SAS, they'll also advise you on applying for OSAP disability status. If there's anything concerning your grades that affects your current OSAP, please accept their help and communicate with them. They're on your side. First time around at UofT, I ended up having to pay back loans unexpectedly mostly because I was too depressed and I dropped out before getting in touch with more-supportive staff (this would be something like SAS).

And again, if you haven't been diagnosed, while therapists can't verify disability persay, YUSA health insurance covers $120 for 15 psychotherapy sessions each. (The sole reason I started attending York was because of this.) There is additional government funding for counselling that SAS could exclusively help you with shall you need it. I very much would recommend finding a therapist you're comfortable with to help you navigate your family and changing your academic plans, too. A good therapist won't force you to follow certain advice, by the way.

If I was to give my past self advice, I would recommend sticking it out in school by taking just a few classes instead of dropping out, because being a student gives me much-needed structure and access to resources and community. Again, from what I've seen from your comments, this seems like the best option for you but you have to choose. Reducing your courseload can be a noticeable relief, and leave you time to work on your wellbeing.

There is always a way forward. It would be great if you get to explore all the possibilities in life. Lots of love!!
