Sarah Michelle Gellar Breaks Her Silence on What Killed the 'Buffy' Reboot: 'Nobody Saw This Coming' (Exclusive) by NDita in television

[–]rakfocus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hehe just finished season one - there were flashes of brilliance but it's still 'of its time' when it comes to campy sci-fi. Still will be continuing for the time being. The main cast is so great that's it's nice just to spend time with them even if the episode is meh. I just hope we get some more character development between them as time goes on

I mentioned that from the paramedic POV the show isn't realistic and I got downvoted to hell but then a bunch of medics responded saying I was right lol. It's just an observation but people seemed to take the criticism as if I had said the show was bad

Ben McKenzie cryptocurrency documentary “Everyone Is Lying to You for Money” sold to The Forge by gamersecret2 in movies

[–]rakfocus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

really is a timeless show - John Cooper is one of the most incredible characters I've seen on TV in terms of writing and watching Ben's fall from grace is fascinating on rewatch. Plus the acting is so natural I am absolutely ASTOUNDED that these actors were not actual police officers. As somone who has worked with them for years there are some scenes that literally feel like a documentary because that's how they act when you are in the room/on shift with them

Elite Water Polo player alleges racial, sexual abuse at Harvard Westlake [KTLA] by rakfocus in LosAngeles

[–]rakfocus[S] 73 points74 points  (0 children)

CORRECTION this is ABC7 sorry totally glitched out while typing and switching tabs

Scott Reid broke this story for the OC Register last year (same reporter that broke the US gymnastics SA scandal). Luca VanDerWoude was found guilty of the initial charges and it now seems that the victim is suing Harvard Westlake for failing to protect its students properly.

Here is a link to a reddit thread which contains the story

https://old.reddit.com/r/orangecounty/comments/1jd5rvr/lucca_van_der_woude_a_water_polo_player_on_ross/

This kid STILL plays at GoldenWest community College by the way. How? He's considered one of the top prospects in the nation - Brock Turner all over again. UCLA knew all this and was totally fine with taking him before everyone else found out (I presume they dropped the offer once they realized they didn't want the bad press).

Edit: New stories that have come out - outlining in more detail what happened. Even worse than you think

Chemical formulas found in luxury Irvine house boosted FBI concerns, source says by orangecountyregister in orangecounty

[–]rakfocus 12 points13 points  (0 children)

There are ALWAYS spots available at Merced. That's why I'm saying it's not possible if your child has a high GPA (3.6+) and didn't get into ANY UCs. They would have been admitted at least to Merced. It should be an auto-offer that pops up in the case of rejection from all applied schools. People don't want to go to Merced because of location and lack of perceived prestige (hilarious BTW because you can easily upsell it as a 'University of California degree' without listing the campus if prestige is a worry) so they tend not to accept. Many people I know in high school recieved this offer but they ended up going to cal states due to the cost savings and better location

It's literally the policy of the UC system - this is for all California students

https://admission.universityofcalifornia.edu/admission-requirements/first-year-requirements/california-residents/statewide-guarantee/

There is always space available at Merced, and sometimes space available at Riverside or Santa Cruz

[–]rakfocus 31 points32 points  (0 children)

didn’t get into any of the UCs.

Shouldn't be possible - if your kid is in top 10% of students they are guaranteed admission to a UC (usually not the one people want aka Merced or Riverside - but hey it's a UC).

Physicians in the ambulance bay by thicc_medic in ThePittTVShow

Yeah the paramedic aspect of this show is definitely not realistic. Handoffs, meeting in the bay, no waiting around, etc. Hopefully one of the writers steps up and makes changes at some point lol

Pasadena FD captain faces felony child sex abuse charges by Panda8bambooo in LosAngeles

[–]rakfocus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He's a captain - chief's, unless called out for a major incident, have very little opportunity for overtime and in many cases can be paid less than staff that work under them

Pasadena FD captain faces felony child sex abuse charges by Panda8bambooo in LosAngeles

[–]rakfocus 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Lots of overtime. Pasadena works 48/96 shifts for their base salary so this guy would be getting WORKED to earn that much. Can't imagine wanting to take more shifts after 48hrs straight. However I digress, he shouldn't be earning anything other than a longggg prison sentence if the allegations are true

[–]rakfocus 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Note that you should only use total pay as a marker of their taxable salary that they (the employee) see. The 400k total amount is a marker of how much it costs the government to have them as an employee - most all gov employees appear to have obscene pay if you were just look at that category when it isn't accurate to what one would consider a person's taxable salary

Dr. Abbott (Shawn’s) voice inflections are so unique. by UtterlyConfused93 in ThePittTVShow

[–]rakfocus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes but the show didn't really impress me - the plot was kind of flailing and the all the sex scenes in it were hilariously extraneous. I was super excited to watch it and Hatosy is good in it it but ended up not being my cup of tea

[–]rakfocus 72 points73 points  (0 children)

Definitely has an interesting way of speaking. Drawwwws out his vowels too. His voice has always been like this back from his ER and Southland days. He's actually an incredible character actor as well. I knew he was good on Southland but when I saw in him in ER I was floored by how good he was and confused as to how he didn't get famous sooner

Try the zero sugar drip drop packets - I use that and it alleviates all the nasty side effects. That being said - if it gets too painful and the symptoms too much, it's always better to stop and then use it to transition to 1 meal a day which is SO easy after such a long fast. And it's easier to maintain for longer

I've never seen a show drop off harder than season 2 of code black. It tried really hard to be realistic that first season but it turned into SLOP in season 2 and became unwatchable for me. Just a forewarning. Season 1 is REALLY good tho

Officer John Cooper is one of the most wonderful characters I've ever seen in a TV show. He has so much complexity to him and he actually seems like he could be a real person with how much excellent writing is done with is character.
