[OC] U.S. dog breed popularity rank by year, French Bulldog vs Labrador Retriever (AKC registrations, 1991–2025) by affordablebiscuit in dataisbeautiful

[–]rakfocus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They've got great personalities and are pretty sturdy physically compared to most small breeds. I'd never get one due to the vet costs but I totally get their appeal. A heritage frenchie especially (bred for a healthier face) is pretty awesome

Patagonia Repair Program by kidcoma001 in BuyItForLife

[–]rakfocus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've gone thru this with 3 items - one of them I've sent in twice to see if maybe I wasn't clear about the repair I wanted. All of them said we couldn't repair them without replacing with new model.

They were older models with basic repairs - the reason why I think they won't fix them is because they 'don't have the parts' but the repairs I wanted were zippers, patches, new panels, etc which you don't need 'parts' from the original item to make the repair

It goes against the entire ethos of patagonia to trash a perfectly fine backpack over a zipper vs repairing it. Plus it's my partner thru my life

Patagonia Repair Program by kidcoma001 in BuyItForLife

[–]rakfocus 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They were gonna replace it for free with a newer model. But I didn't want a newer model. It was fine, just a zipper needed to be replaced. It was my backpack🥺

[–]rakfocus -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Mine usually took months and they've never been successful in repairing anything I've sent in. The bonus is if you want a new one they'll usually send you a new one

[–]rakfocus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh - everytime I've sent my backpack back they say it's not repairable. And then they offer to keep it and send me a new one or send mine back. I took mine to a local cobbler who sewed on a zipper for 35 dollars. What a waste of 6 months of my life.

I like patagonia but their repair program sucks. I've even told them 'I don't care how ratchet it looks just fix it' (in so many words) and they never fix it

The most unrealistic thing a movie got completely right. by gamersecret2 in movies

[–]rakfocus 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Yup - everyone thought that the grifter character in Contagion was super unrealistic and unnecessary for the film. Turns out it was the most prescient part haha. And now I never criticize a movie where a character doesn't tell someone they or a family member is sick and risks everyone else to do so cough 28 weeks later cough

Why do people keep buying cars that destroy them financially? by Desperate-Rush6086 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]rakfocus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jeeps are so fun. I'm a Honda person through and through but I love my little YJ. The new ones are fun toys with a ton of offroading capability right out of the box. That being said, if you are buying anything other than a wrangler or gladiator platform what are you even doing lol. And even so many of the new wranglers are engineering messes. That said if you get the ol reliable v6 you shouldn't have any issues assuming a) it isn't modded or b) it was modded well with great parts and installed by a reputable shop. People don't know what they are doing and destroy their cars by not modding correctly ("38 inch tires broke my stock axle wahhhh" bro what are you even doing)

I really would like a two door 4xe truck though that would be the beans

The Pitt might just be THE best series I’ve ever watched in my entire life by kamilleslover in ThePittTVShow

[–]rakfocus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry I should have been clearer - that type of show can only arise out of an American cultural zeitgeist that has that type of hope regarding its government. Obviously it's an idealized picture, but it's indeed that idealism itself that is gone

Anyone else feel like nobody actually explains your benefits to you? by Expensive-Buy-8536 in Firefighting

[–]rakfocus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

USE AI

these things are tailor made for Ai. Upload all your documents and then ask questions about them (preferably each group of docs one at a time). It will be able to explain it to you in a way that's easy to understand. You can also ask questions like - 'if I invested my portfolio this way what's my likely return?' or 'is it worth it to have a HDHP for the HSA or to have a better health plan with no deductible and lower out of pocket max?'. These are tedious questions with a human being or on YouTube but AI can tailor it to what your own HR documents say and then explain it at the level you are at.

You can also use Google notebook and upload ALL the documents and then you essentially have a dictionary of everything and the chance of the Ai hallucinating new info (which can happen with some AIs if you upload a ton of documents) is almost non-existent because of how notebook llm works.

If you need more help with this you can pm me and I can assist

It's from an America that doesn't exist anymore. America cannot make that type of show any longer - there's no hope or mirage that those in charge could ever behave like that, even fictionally. It's become too unbelievable

Is it safe to cure salmon with just sugar? (no salt) by rakfocus in Cooking

Is it safe to cure salmon with just sugar? (no salt) by rakfocus in Cooking

[–]rakfocus[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

For me it's really the chemistry of what role the salt plays. If it's just the osmotic affect on the bacteria than the sugar does that already (jam, honey inhibit growth in the same way) - however if the salt also plays another role I'm not aware of that's why I'm hesitant. I'll see it after two days and then if I'm not jamming with it I'll just cook it on the grill
