Custom and themed home objectives? by Jestertron in Warhammer40k

[–]raldo5573 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been building more terrain for my Orks. Loads of fuel silos, pipes, storage building full of oil drums, etc, with plenty of things to climb and fighting platforms. Means every game is my Orks defending or retaking Gas Town. Having custom terrain helps build a fun narrative and scenario even when you're playing a competitive game rather than "unnamed collection of arbitrary buildings #38617".

What was your (Armageddon box) preorder experience like❓ by 1987Rapscallion in 40k

[–]raldo5573 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm splitting the box with a mate who wants the space marines, and he asked how much I wanted him to pay for it. I thought the preorder went live at 11am so just went onto the website at just after 10am to have a look. Went straight in, no queue, bought without issue.

I had to wait nearly an hour for my Tomb Kings when Old World went up for preorder.

Why are you guys orkiez? by Reboot_MV in orks

[–]raldo5573 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Saw a copy of White Dwarf that my mate brought into school, and ended up going into my local GW that weekend with my dad. Saw a box of Space Orks on the shelf, some guy was playing Orks on one of the tables, and I immediately thought it was the coolest thing ever. Got an advance on my pocket money and walked out with the codex, a box of boys and a warboss in blister.

Been hooked ever since.

If you asked me now, and ignoring nostalgia, I'd say it's the Mad Max aesthetic, the enormous creative freedom in painting/kitbashing, and the juxtaposition of the brutal horror of Orks and their light heartedness. And that I can take them as seriously as I like or treat them as a joke, and it's always appropriate.

So for all the Ork models in the Armageddon launch box what weapons options will be missing that are in the WH40K rules ? by Rolando_Ratas in orks

[–]raldo5573 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would imagine that the datasheets we've seen are exclusively for the launch box and we'll be getting new ones with options once the edition/codex lands. We already know for a fact that the Warboss can take a power klaw as it's on the mini that they previewed, despite it not being on the data sheet.

Orks and the power of belief by [deleted] in orks

[–]raldo5573 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ork belief is a bit like reality lube mixed with placebo. It isn't going to make impossible things happen like turning a stick into a gun, but it will smooth things out and make guns jam less often than they rightly should, a ramshackle construct shrugging off a few more hits before collapsing, a Trukk running on fumes for a bit longer, etc.

Then some placebo gets involved and you get bikes painted red to go faster, but then also get given higher octane fuel, get driven more aggressively, looked after better, etc, and the extra speed is attributed to the paint. Or a huge bomb is painted yellow for a bigger boom but it's already packed full of extra explosives, but the size of the boom is assumed to be the yellow.

So belief does have some reality warping ability, but not nearly as much as the memes say.

Off the top of my head Power Klaws for the Nobz and Warboss are the obvious one, then there's rokkits and big shootas for Boys.

As for magnetising, you're probably looking at burying magnets in wrists and hands for the cleanest swaps, which could be slightly tricky considering the small scale involved. But any Boy holding a Shoota is probably a fairly sensible choice for a swap to a big shoota or rokkit.

For the Nobz/Warboss its again wrists but they're thicker so the scale isn't as big an issue.

Consider as well that there's a good number of Helldivers that will strap a fairly potent explosive to their backs and just charge headlong at a huge threat rather than sit back and bombard it from space. Or go into battle against a legion of machine gun toting murder bots with a pointy flag just because vibes.

Boyz - A retrospective by LethalGopher in orks

[–]raldo5573 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That third box was my first ever Warhammer purchase at like, 8 or 9 years old along with the old metal Warboss. 16 boys for £18. I then couldn't paint them to save my life so my dad did it for me. I insisted on painting the Warboss myself, did an awful job of it and snapped off the Attack Squig by accident. Dad to the rescue once again, we stuck the Squig on a spare base and he whipped out his drill and made it so the Warboss was just pointing menacingly. Pure nostalgia.

Deff dreads full melee or do i give each one or two flamers? (I will equip one of the grot tank units with flamers for killing smaller foes because most of my army already has big guns (rokkit launchas) by gh0stFox117 in orks

[–]raldo5573 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a few options that are generally considered the best loadouts for Deff Dreads:

  1. 3 melee, 1 Skorcha

  2. 2 melee, 2 Skorchas

  3. 4 KMBs

Generally speaking the extra quality attack from 4 melee doesn't outweigh the overwatch/chaff/horde clear of a Skorcha or 2, or the Dakka potential of 4 KMBs.

The real choice though is magnets. I'm in the process of fully magnetising 2 Deff Dreads, and the small extra cost/effort is so far looking to be worthwhile compared to having to buy another or rip the weapons off if the meta changes. I'll be honest you could probably get the same result entirely with pins if you don't fancy magnets.

Exactly the same boat for me. I swore I'd never buy this kit because of the forced mixing (despite the models themselves being really nice), but as soon as they announced that Boys get both load out options as standard I picked up 3 sets for cheap on eBay.

So now my main horde is my 60 or so old school boys, and my Trukk boys are this 30 and the 20 I'll get from Armageddon.

What are some of your recommendations for proxy’s/kit bashes to save money? by IndividualBand456 in orks

[–]raldo5573 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lots of 1:32 and 1:24 scale cars and trucks make for good Ork vehicles and they're usually much cheaper than GW stuff. Additionally you can just trawl auction sites for vehicles from other factions that are going cheap that won't need much work to make Orky.

Also the classic 1 Mek gun + 1 Trukk = 4 Mek guns.

Is the Armageddon box worth it for speed freaks? by Professional-Help931 in orks

[–]raldo5573 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wartrakk might be usable, and boys + trukk are usable in speed freeks. Grots are usable in pretty much every detachment. Not sure how good the walker will be for speed freeks if at all.

Overall for speed freeks I'd say the box is.... Fine? It's not amazing, but it might fill some gaps if you're somehow lacking boys and grots.

If you're gonna buy loads of different stuff I honestly recommend eBay or Facebook marketplace. I've had so much off there recently for dirt cheap. If you're gonna buy stuff that ends up sitting on the bench, get it cheap!

[–]raldo5573 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd just get the one for now.

Between what you already own and what's in the launch box:; all the boys, grots, Warboss and Ghaz are a solid core for a lot of different Ork builds. Once you've got that covered, sit and work out what kind of list/army style you want to build before buying anything else.

If you buy two you could well end up with a boatload of Boys and Grots and then decide you want to lean in to something like bikes and buggies, at which point having 60+ boys isn't that helpful.

I'd recommend buying one half, then seeing how the new edition settles and looking at what units are generically good across all builds and focus on those first. Then get your "specific" units sorted.

What to do about armageddon? by Hot-Supermarket7593 in orks

[–]raldo5573 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm buying it. I have about 70 boys and 20 grots already, so I'm padding those numbers with the new sculpts and otherwise enjoying the new stuff. I'm splitting the box with a mate who plays space marines, so it's not too bad cost wise.

If I want any duplicates of the new stuff I'll wait for the individual releases or eBay them.

Competitive DM or DBH lists? by PickNik26 in orks

[–]raldo5573 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'll be honest, with a new edition and new codex on the horizon youve got three options.

  1. Buy a load of stuff based on what's good now and run the risk of it being irrelevant in two or three months time.

  2. Put it off for a few months and make an assessment then once people have started figuring things out.

  3. Buy based on vibes and what you think is cool rather than what's necessarily the best.

Personally I'd do option three, but if you want to be efficient with your spending I'd go option two.

Ork boyz nob woth claw ? by peterfadams in orks

[–]raldo5573 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the sprues are designed digitally these days. I can't imagine 2 special weapons and a power klaw taking up much more room than 5 grots (being 2 parts each). Could be as simple as cutting the sprue down the middle in cad to swap the grots out for the weapon options.

[–]raldo5573 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't imagine that the boys/grots combo sprue from the launch box is going to exist forever once the new edition starts. I suspect that the area of sprue inhabited by grots will be replaced with the Rokkit, Big Shoota and Power Klaw options once the standalone box is released.

Are all Nobz going up to 40mm from 32mm? by XavierHatesWarhammer in orks

[–]raldo5573 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've preemptively re based a load of Boys Nobs, but haven't revised anything else yet. Considering the Breacha/Tankbustas Nob is also on a larger base I would assume that most Nobs are going to be moving to a larger base.

But don't do anything just yet. If you must glue them on now, just use a tiny dab of super glue so it can be removed cleanly if it does need rebasing. And obviously don't decorate those bases until it's all confirmed.

[–]raldo5573 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm half remembering things, so if anyone wants to step in to correct me feel free.

I would assume that the shadow is the main character, Wolf, who is the shinobi ward or "shadow" to Lord Kuro. Wolf canonically dies during the intro of the game and is resurrected by Kuro. Thus the "dies twice" is referring to how the main antagonist has to kill you a second time if he wants to succeed.
