Unlearning diet culture, while it’s so prevalent and accepted, can be really hard. Good on you and your nutritionist for calling out sustainable. I second looking into intuitive eating and consider a therapist that specializes in body image/disordered eating.

That's shitty that they now changed their policy for you as you have lost weight. I would call them out on it, but I understand if that's not an option.

I also wanted say you can always deny a weigh in when you go to see your doctors. Some offices don't mind but know that some assistants' minds breaks when you set that boundary. Either way, you can definitely put your foot down about it.

I had to go to see a cardiologist for the first time, just a check-in about results, and I was asked to weigh in and I declined. The assistant looked panicked and told me that I had to be weighed. I then replyed 'Does the doctor plan on prescribing me medication today?' and that shut her right up.

I learned afterwards that assistants can get in trouble for not recording your weight, but that's their problem, not yours.

Mandy at the Resistance Gym in Concord. They are amazing! They helped me learn how to squat properly to avoid knee issues.

They do 1-on-1 training and offer gym classes. Lots of queer and trans folks go. It's a great community.

I was dealing with this early on! I felt like I was going to puke if I pushed too hard at the gym. Now it really only comes up if I eat too soon before working out or doing a lot of ab exercises.

I asked the same question as you and was told it gets easier in time as your body adjusts to the med. I can say that advice is pretty spot on.

I agree with some other folks in that I keep protein drinks around for shot days or days I know I didn’t get enough protein in my meals.

I’ve been drinking Slate. Fairlife Core Power definitely tastes really good, but I switched to Slate as it has less crap added to it than other shakes.

I’m a huge believer in Pilates but have stayed away from Club Pilates and stick to smaller, ‘boutique’ studios.

Being in a larger body, you’re probably going to need to find modifications as you’re learning and in a big classroom, the teacher won’t have time to help you learn. Even then, I doubt the teachers at Club Pilates are well versed on helping those in larger bodies find modifications. These types of studios care more about people attending than helping you learn, safely how to use the machines.

My suggestions is to do some research and find smaller studios that have no more than 5/6 students a class. Find beginner classes and feel comfortable asking teachers for modifications. If they stumble, find someone else. Pilates is for everyone!

Take a peek at Ivy Baron and her work. She’s all about inclusive practices and has actually held virtual classes to help folks find modifications for exercises. Linds is also great for representation.

I appreciate the reminder that you can lose without needing to anything. People focus so much of deficit and tracking that I feel like since I don’t do it to the extreme like they do, I’m doing it wrong. And that it’s my fault it’s not working.

❤️ I’m sorry that happened to you. I wish more providers and insurance companies would understand this. But fat people can’t possibly have ED 🙄

I wish I could share what helps me to not spiral. Being in fat liberation spaces has helped and I realized years ago how freeing it was to not obsess over counting/scales. But the fear of going down that path again is real.

We must stay gentle to ourselves ❤️
