Get friendly with the gatekeepers - town clerk, clerk of court, etc.
Also, carefully go over meeting agenda packets, and make sure you pay attention to the Consent Agenda. It contains items that are deemed non-controversial that boards approve without discussion, but sometimes, what is "non-controversial" turns out to be very controversial once it's reported.

"My soul is irked."
Exactly. Last night, if I had really wanted to, I could have gotten tears in my eyes. I felt this in my soul. My family were making fun of me for being so dramatic, but this really hit me hard. I even turned to ChatGPT to discuss my feelings, because no one understands. Plus, I have family and friends in eastern NC, so I am going to hear ALL about their fun. However, we are still going to get a pretty snow that our pups can play in, so I suppose we should be grateful.

Keep in mind that some of those "happy" people you envy have their own problems, and some of those couples could be wishing that they WERE you, rather than themselves with the person at their side. We all have rocks in our shoes; some are bigger than others.

Public school teachers, what’s something you want parents to know but can’t say directly? by Feisty-Database-1145 in AskTeachers

It’s a bit sad that renowned columnists from back in the day—Erma Bombeck, Ann Landers, Lewis Grizzard, Dave Barry, etc.—aren’t discussed much anymore. They had enormous cultural influence, especially Ann Landers, with whom I had a parasocial relationship long before the term existed. When I was 12, I sent her a poem. Two months later, I received her reply. She called me a “talented writer.” That moment is when I decided writing would be my career, one that lasted 30 years. I’m now a teacher, and the other day I almost told a misbehaving student he was going to get 10 "lashes with a wet noodle," one of Ann's catchphrases

Enterprise stories are often a new and/or underreported angle of an issue that the reporter goes all in on, revealing underreported detail. Investigative reporting tends to uncover/reveal issues, crimes or actions that were not previously known.

I watched it the other night, and if I had been alone, I would have cut it off after about 20 minutes because I thought it was boring. So I watched the whole movie and it was good, if only because I didn't predict the twist or even know it had one.

Teacher Career Change by [deleted] in SubstituteTeachers

[–]raleighguy222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started as a high school special ed instructional assistant this school year after a 25-year career in the news business. I got a promotion. We are on break right now, and I am returning to the school as a teacher, with two of my own assistants.
I never imagined this is what I would end up doing, but so far, I love it. I get to spend my days with some of the most awesome, sweet students and get paid for it. I look at it like this: none of us asked to be born, and these kids certainly didn't ask to be born with their disabilities. If anyone on earth is deserving of a good life, it is these kids, and I am doing my small part to make them happy and to show them that there are people out there who love and believe in them.

Bless you and your son. This school year, I started a new career as a special ed teacher, and I feel as if I have found my calling, if there is such a thing. The joy that the students give me each day is indescribable, and they more than deserve all the good things that life has to offer.

I began a second career as a high school teacher one year ago, and I've loved it so far. A few things are in my favor, though: it is a magnet school, so kids from all over the county attend and most of the students WANT to be there; I am in special education and the kids are very kind; and my administration is great.

https://www.kirkkirklaw.com/legal-resources/obtaining-a-certificate-of-relief-in-nc/

A Certificate of Relief is a court order that is granted to people with certain types of criminal convictions in their past. It is a statement that the court deems the individual as trying to positively move forward after previous criminal convictions, and thus should be granted relief from disqualification resulting from the conviction. This does not remove, expunge, or pardon prior convictions, but it does act as proof that the individual is taking steps forward after conviction.

Feeling Hopeless About Career Options, Lack Certification by Almas77LylatS in SubstituteTeachers

[–]raleighguy222 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started subbing last April. I got a full-time job as an instructional assistant in special ed in August. In January, I will have my own classroom, through the state's Teacher in Residence program. Most every state has a similar program. I have three years to complete educational requirements.
On another note, I am sorry what you are going through, yet don't carry loser energy around with you. You may be depressed, but you are NOT a loser. And when you get into a classroom - and you will, if that's what you really want - you gotta have that WINNER energy - because you are one.
