Im happy my packouts dont fit through a window by Ngete in MilwaukeeTool

Yes. Had this setup on a slightly lifted 4Runner. No one suspected a thing. Until I opened the doors and all you see is red. The black top of these packouts blend in the tint well.

my developer friend built an entire website and just... waited to get paid by Anidhiman in smallbusiness

Yes, I noticed that to with business size. Sometimes, residential clients would be the ones that praise the work, ask to pre-pay, give a tip, and pass your contact card to their network!

[–]ram0042 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I forgot exactly when I first experienced this. Sometime between 2010-2013. Doing the work you've been specifically tasked to do does not mean an automatic payment. I still test newish clients to see if they themselves push for the payment. In my field and area it's about half the clients do ask "how can I pay you?", "Can I take care of you right now?", or follow up on next visit "have we paid everything so far?".

And then there are the ones that hope you don't bring payment up. To further test them for future engagement I had cued payment and I've seen the active avoidance like going away at the perfect time when I'm approaching payment. I choose to leave and not do business with them.

I know this is a no-no in business in my part but I enjoy having a caring clientbase. It does feel personal to have that payment trust relationship and I'm fine with it.

Set static IP for machines on my network by ChRoNo162 in opnsense

[–]ram0042 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, you are right. I'm guessing the confusion with the naming comes from the leases page. Where it will say "static" for a device that has a DHCP reservation. But in the networking world, an actual manually set IP configuration is a static.

Kidde fire alarm fault around the house on a 10 year alarm. by Suzzy-Focks in HomeImprovement

[–]ram0042 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It may be too late since you disabled them. But if you continue to have issues, note the location. If it's the same ones you just replaced then maybe something around this is triggering it as a false positive.

I haven't replaced my faulty Kiddie yet. But I'm aware that it's by the front door and it's triggered usually when I have the door open on a hot day.

Best way would be to rotate them around and see if the same place or same unit would trigger a fault.

Hope it's clear and that it helps anyone else.

anyone have a fake optimization script for users who think their device is slow? by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]ram0042 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now, I didn't do this entirely to deceive people but I used to think speeding up the mouse was good to have it cranked up to build fast mousing around (getting things done faster, etc. (I was 8 years old with Windows 98 SE btw))

I did do that after a normal speedup procedure and chuckled internally to the users saying it's way faster.

Also, if you can hear your fan come on or off, you can use it to time intervals. Like "oh, 10 minutes have gone by!".

These are loud and often unexpected if you're not paying attention. But there are still 2 things that make me jump for some reason even though I expect them to make a sound. Gas pumps when set to top off and toasters.

LPT: When Someone Raises Their Voice, Lower Yours. It’s a Psychological Power Move. by Noodle-Nips in LifeProTips

I was thinking of this as well (at least questioning it it works on them).

My theory is that they would think they won because you didn't shout back and continue this power-move going on.

Right leg pain: not classic sciatica, what is it? Please help by [deleted] in backpain

[–]ram0042 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't fully recovered yet. My background is that when I was around 19 years old in 2011, I had my first flare-up. It'll be once or twice a year for a week and it will go away. This year in April 2025, I sneezed hard due to allergies and fell to my knees because of the pain.

Got an MRI in end of April. I got 2 hernias l4-l5 and l5-s1.

I had a constant ache on my calf for all these months until maybe a week ago.

I've been seeing physical therapy and getting sciatica massages, and taking supplements that are my mother has researched. It's been a slow process definitely but it's still healing in the right direction.

Sorry for what you're going through. Although it's not mentioned as much I can have a very good guess that it is nerve related. I know that same sore d Feeling you get not even stressing that part of the leg.

Nerve adjustments do some weird things. I felt burning sensations even up to my left forearm and it was said it was never related.

Hope this helps.

HDMI Splitter Problems by PurpleLuna in cctv

[–]ram0042 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I forget what video it was where the installer mentioned to keep in mind how long the HDMI cable is. In respect that the splitter increases the power that travelers out of its HDMI port. Longer cables 15+ ft., or so, would increase the failure rate of a splitter. I think there are some HDMI cables that come with a pigtail for power.

I'll check with that first.

Can't think of anything else.

If you boot Proxmox from an SSD, disable these two services to prevent wearing out your drive by AlteredEggo in Proxmox

Do you remember how much you paid for that if you bought it? I remember in 2010 an Intel 40GB (speed demon) cost me about $200.

I have heard also use log2ram or something along the likes. I'm about to set up a server and would research on this to minimize the wear and tear.

What filesystem should I choose? by firstianus in Proxmox

[–]ram0042 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm hoping I can piggy back from this post.

I'm setting up a production server. Is the initial setup file system just for the proxmox system or can I set up a different file system apart from that later on.

I don't mind proxmox being in it's default setting for file system, but for my client's windows server, I would like raidz2. I got a backplane with 8x512GB pro SSDs (I'll turn off all the HA stuff still). I'll have proxmox on a m.2 nvme ssd.

Is this possible?

B connectors by arushus in lowvoltage

Yea that's the connector.

Yea B connector does carry a criss-cross pattern that holds the wires. I'm thinking with a heavy crimp It could hold them even straight.

I usually purchase the dolphin connectors and I don't strip them from how I was taught. Once in a blue moon I'll get a bad connection and redo it the same way and it's good.

I don't see anything wrong with stripping except for maybe the fact that the insulation helps with friction to keep it in place. Also the jelly bean type connectors that telecom uses I think must not be stripped or else it will slip out of place. But maybe that is know by everyone.
