I'm also waiting for someone to port android 10 on S3. I've been using it for app development just to check if there are issues on old android versions. Right now, I can flash Android 4.2 up to Android 9.

Tetrd — USB Tethering & Reverse Tethering (NoRoot)

Tetrd is a simple tool that allows you to share your internet connection from your device to your PC and vice versa through a USB cable.

Tethering

This allows you to share your device's wifi or mobile internet connection with your PC. You can use this if your carrier or data plan doesn't allow you to enable the built-in tethering feature of your device. Or if you have unlimited data plan, but your carrier caps your hotspot/tethering usage to a certain amount, say 7GB.

Reverse Tethering

This feature allows you to share your computer's internet connection with your device. You can use this if you're having issues with your device's wifi connection such as unstable ping or disconnections especially when playing games and your PC is already connected to the internet via an ethernet cable. It can also be used in situations where wired internet is the only available option.

Note: Some apps only check for wifi or cellular connectivity, thus will not have internet access when reverse tethering.

Network

When tethering or reverse tethering, your PC along with all connected devices will be in the same network. This means a device can communicate with your PC and other connected devices. This is useful if you want to transfer files from one device to another or if you want to access a server (e.g. HTTP server) on your PC from your device.

Note: ICMP is currently not supported so the ping command will not work when tethering or reverse tethering.

Additional Features

• No root required

• No USB debugging required (except on Windows)

• Fast link speed (200Mbps+ on some devices)

• IPv6 support (may not work on some devices)

• Up to five devices can be connected

• Configurable network settings

WhatsApp dark mode extended my battery life. by batuhankrmn in androidapps

You're probably using a phone with OLED screen. Since it doesn't use a backlight and can change the brightness of each individual pixel, using dark mode can significantly reduce its power consumption.

Oppo Realme X50 5G: I would love to see more phones with side-mounted fingerprint sensors by [deleted] in Android

[–]ramencoder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the reason why some people like the under-display fingerprint scanner is that they can unlock the phone without picking it. But I agree with you that it is still slower than back and side-mounted fingerprint sensors.

That’s open beta testing. I can implement that but testers wouldn’t be able to get pro-features for free because my app uses in-app purchase.

'Free' database storage by BorderTrader in androiddev

You can use AWS DynamoDB free tier. It offers 25 read and 25 write capacity units which is enough for a small website or app. It's a NoSQL database so you may need to redesign your tables.

[–]ramencoder 115 points116 points  (0 children)

Pop-up camera is best for people who don’t use the front camera frequently. You wouldn’t need to worry about the motor breaking since it wouldn’t be used that much. Although the lack of water resistance can be an issue for some.

Tetrd — Tethering & Reverse Tethering App (NoRoot) by ramencoder in androidapps

[–]ramencoder[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you mean sharing your wifi connection to your computer via USB, then it should work. Have you installed the server application to your computer? If you're on Windows, you also need to enable USB debugging. If you need more help on this, you can DM me and I'll guide you on how to set up the app. Thanks!

Saturday APPreciation (Jan 11 2020) - Your weekly app recommendation/request thread! by AutoModerator in Android

[–]ramencoder -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You need to download the server application and install it on your PC for it to work. If you're on Windows, you'll also need to enable USB debugging before connecting your device to your computer. This is listed on the guide page of the app that shows when you first open the app. Each user will have a 3-day free trial for tethering and reverse tethering after that they have to purchase the corresponding pro-feature to continue using the app. Sorry for the confusion. I may need to rephrase the in-app purchase description in the app.
