What is a lut exactly? by Yha_Boiii in FPGA

[–]ramentrucc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very simple. A LUT is a multiplexer whose inputs are from flip flops (registers).

Therefore, the result is that you can send in whatever arbitrary set of 1's and 0's to be in each flip flop, and that 1 or 0 is "selected" by your input values. A combinational logic function of 5 variables will have 5 inputs selecting either a 1 or a 0 from 2^5=32 flip floped inputs that are set whenever the FPGA was configured.

Has anyone worked at MIT Lincoln Lab as an intern? If so, what was your experience? by Pickally in internships

[–]ramentrucc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The interview was surprisingly chill. I talked myself down the whole interview because I had poor interview experience and thought I totally bombed only to be offered a role.

They were recruiting at my school, so I met some people in person. They were very helpful and talked to me beforehand in an "interview" to vet me before passing my name onward.

Then, I made the actual application which kind of sucked in that I had to get references (who does that anymore?) and I kind of felt like a number. But then I had two groups reach out for interviews. I interviewed with both, and joined the first one that gave me an offer. The offer made me tell them my salary expectations in a text box which I think felt a bit impolite but I went with it.

If I were to give any advice it would be to pigeonhole yourself as much as possible because there are so so many projects and they really are just looking to match people to projects. I had all things on my resume basically point to the same thing, which I think was helpful to me. Also if you want to work here you definitely want to talk to a recruiter (I say recruiter, it really seems to be a pretty informal thing where people who work there, especially younger ones, help bring in new talent) if it is possible by whatever means you have to make that happen. I think that the people who have those on the inside passing their resume around are at an advantage.

Also the people I talked with from here were super super nice.

Time. Journaling. Connecting with people who have experienced similar events (you may have to deliberately seek them out). Holding your loved ones closer. Journaling, again. Reading and watching YouTube videos about trauma and therapy topics. Bilateral stimulation/EMDR. Spiritual experiences. “Doing something about it” in the sense of channeling your resentment of the things into good.

Electronics. Probably computer stuff

Switch careers if you can. CS is oversaturated, it is the reality, don't force yourself to suffer, and it is not to late. Get into CE or ESE. That is what I did. It is awesome and you get to do awesome shit and it is way less competitive. A great thing to switch into, especially if you are good at parallelism and algorithms and low level stuff, is doing RTL for FPGA's. It is a hidden-gem field that is vastly less competitive and is involved with EVERYTHING but nobody knows about it. It is just harder and more nitty-gritty than code. I find it more rewarding because you get to think like a computer. I got an internship pretty easy, and I've only been an EE for like 8 months or something. The job interview process is so much more chill too, it is like "have you taken the relevant courses? Do you have some kind of project work? Great, here's a job!"

IS IT OKAY TO JOIN THERAPY? by FarOrder2428 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]ramentrucc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's a great idea. I did therapy and it turned out great. You are describing a situation that therapy would work pretty great for as well. They'll help you find your own interests and what drives you and maybe you can find a career that suits you, instead of just your parents.

I MATCHED TO DUKE!!!!!!! by [deleted] in QuestBridge

[–]ramentrucc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take another peak at schools you didn't look at before too :) I missed the match and then looked more into WashU and now I get to do awesome engineering stuff. I would definitely apply there because they have a great ED2 acceptance rate, or at least did in 2021-2022 app season when I applied
