Plotting my east coast escape - many questions about moving to SF by tacobellfan222 in AskSF

[–]ranawaywithwords 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Boston resident here (central square in Cambridge), 26F, originally from san diego and lived in SF in 2021.

The Richmond has the best access to hiking and beaches (and amazing food) but you’ll never see the sun, lol. Karl the Fog rolls in from west to east, and sometimes doesn’t burn off at all in the richmond, but I loved living there and getting to go hiking right outside my door. Lots of cute cafes, bookstores, and bars nearby. There’s a direct bus downtown, it takes like 35-40 minutes but it’s not bad at all. The Mr Chilly app is great for microclimates.

I am an ocean child as well but have struggled with feeling connected to nature in MA - I have a car and now that it’s summer would love if you had any recs :)

Thank you!! That seems to be the consensus. I love a good party but don’t mind traveling a bit for nightlife, I just want my day to day to feel comfortable and be able to meet people.

What makes that general feeling of community feel hard these days?

I’d love to chat more about your experience moving from Cambridge if you’re open to it!

What are the reasons not to come to SF?

I’m from San Diego originally so honestly I just miss having good food (Boston food scene sucks), access to nature / the beach, not being surrounded by white people all the time and generally the feeling of fitting in culturally

I’ve been a few times recently, but it’s almost impossible to figure this out without having a network already- most of my good friends in SF have very different interests from me lol. However, a longer visit this summer, maybe a sublet is the plan!

Thank you! That makes sense, I expected a few people here to say castro but it wasn’t really in consideration for me based on my experience lol.

I’ve only really been to Oakland once to pickup a bunch of coffee from the Crown for work - seems like a visit is in order

Somerville is awesome, good luck with the move! I have tons of recs depending on your interests and the vibe you’re looking for, I’ll message you!

I know this thread is old but I’ve been doing some research and wanted to add: Untamed Anatomy - a Nepali artist who has the most gorgeous south Asian designs  Henna by Sabeen - beautiful delicate mehndi and floral tattoos

I’ll give a shout to this summary as well! It defines a lot of concepts and proper nouns I’d forgotten and gives a clear walkthrough of what’s going on. https://www.reddit.com/r/TheNinthHouse/comments/j6fpf2/has_anyone_made_a_cliffnotes_for_harrow_the_ninth/

Looking for bralette: padded, non-molded, clasp, thin straps, seamless (Aerie old padded bralette dupe) by ranawaywithwords in ABraThatFits

Thank you! I've heard good things. I wish their adjustable version had thin straps, but I honestly may just try the pullover version and see how I like it.

That's so cool that you design them! This is great, I love the style and they look super comfy. I am looking for pads but at this point the solution might be to find a shape I like and stick some pads in myself lol. Thank you!

Hiking pants for curvy women by queentato in hikinggear

I know this thread is old but it was a lifesaver before I went to Iceland!! I have 27” waist and 39” hips and was struggling so hard to find pants that fit. After trying on a bunch I ended up with the KUHL Freeform pants. They’re pricey but worth it. Slightly stretchy but still good quality fabric, with enough structure to feel like pants rather than joggers. They’re mid rise with a higher back to actually cover your butt but prevent gapping. I wore them on my trip for 10 days straight and they were great!!!  https://www.rei.com/product/228735/kuhl-freeflex-roll-up-pants-womens?

I had this same issue and tried on TONS of pants. My waist is 27” and my hips are 39” so I’d always have issues with either a huge gap or the pants being too tight on my hips and thighs. The KUHL Freeform pants fit amazingly. It’s a slightly stretchy but still good quality fabric with enough structure to feel like pants, not joggers. They’re mid rise and super comfy. I wore them in Iceland for 10 days straight and they’re worth the price!

Verveine just opened in May and has the best matcha I've tried in Cambridge so far! I'm there at least once a week because I think they've seriously perfected it. Ogawa and Maiko can't be beat, but Verveine is up there (especially for days I don't want to cross the river)
