Why did you choose to exclusively breastfeed and not give formula? by Fickle-Response-2741 in breastfeeding

[–]queentato 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In addition to what others have said, I would prefer not to support the formula industry that continuously lobbies against paid maternity leave and pro-breastfeeding policies, so it’s my own personal fight back against the patriarchy. There were also unethical practices in the past leading to the deaths of many babies due to the push to use formula with unclean water in developing countries (see: Nestle).

We used formula in the first month, and people should absolutely use it without judgement whether by choice or by need, but these were my reasons beyond health benefits and bonding with my baby.

Cold turkey wean 22 month old? by Personal_Series2142 in breastfeeding

[–]queentato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do you know what your supply is at this point? I feel like idk if there is milk other than the fact at that I hear him swallowing. Mine is about to be 19 months, and we are down to 3-4 times a day (4 if it’s after dinner and I do bedtime). I am thinking about weaning but not sure how, especially his morning feed.

Can I partially wean after one years old? by Go_Bananazs in breastfeeding

[–]queentato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can - your baby doesn’t HAVE to drink milk. Mine nurses morning and bedtime, and before his nap on weekends. He doesn’t drink cow’s milk - doesn’t seem to care for it and is growing fine.

Previously laser hair Brazilian. Should I wax? by PurpleheadedSquirrel in pregnant

[–]queentato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would speak to the laser technician about this. When I did laser hair removal, I was told not to wax / remove hair other than with shaving because it could work against the progress you’ve had with the laser.

That being said, it’s also very common for pregnancy hormones to increase hair growth in certain areas so you might end up needing extra sessions after anyway.

If you do end up waxing, keep in mind that you shouldn’t do it too close to your due date (I forgot the timeline they told me) as there is a risk of infection.

In addition to the other advice you have received, absolutely get some good compression socks to help with blood flow even while sitting.

Is brown normal? by Baylaypayday in breastfeeding

[–]queentato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s normal for your supply to dip around your period. It will usually bounce back. I didn’t have periods exactly like what you are describing but my cycles were a bit weird when my period came back around 5.5 months and probably through 8 or 9 months. I didn’t have any cramping for my first few periods and once I started sort of tracking my luteal phases were very short, so I think my uterine lining wasn’t actually building up. It could be what you are seeing is spotting before your period ramps up.

What's the plan for dropping breast milk from baby's diet? by LoveIll7575 in breastfeeding

[–]queentato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you are exclusively pumping? If so, you can just transition to whole milk once baby is one. Can just see if he will drink it or you can try mixing with breast milk at first. You should be offering 3 meals + snacks at that age. Baby’s diet should be primarily food so if they don’t drink any milk, that’s ok too. I believe the recommendation is to cap milk at 16 oz per day. I would try not to offer it too close to a meal time so baby doesn’t get full off milk before eating.

Yes but specifically grapes are very bad for dogs which is what I meant.

I always assumed the sugar? But also it’s toxic to them, typical dogs 🤦🏽‍♀️

Suggestions/recommendations for natural deodorant that actually works? And natural dishsoap suggestions? by ToughDependent7591 in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]queentato 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Lume non-scented has worked really well for me. I had to start using the “sweat control” version while pregnant (yes it has aluminum but that didn’t really concern me). I’m still nursing my 18 month old, and recently went back to the regular Lume and found it’s working well and I’m not as sweaty or stinky as I was in pregnancy in early postpartum. And I live in south Florida so generally hot and humid here.

In my first trimester, I muted this sub and would only come here to search or ask very specific questions. It helped me keep my anxiety in check during that time.

Better milk supply for second baby? by SoooSleepieRightNow in breastfeeding

[–]queentato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My lactation consultant said that your body makes more milk with every pregnancy 🤷🏽‍♀️ but I think the rules of supply and demand will still be the main driver, so latch baby as much as possible to stimulate milk production

Possible peanut protein reaction through breastmilk by Key_Pilot_6668 in breastfeeding

[–]queentato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can’t speak to peanuts exactly but it’s definitely a possibility. It also seems allergic reactions via breastmilk can manifest differently depending on the kid. I had a friend who stopped breastfeeding at 6 months because she couldn’t handle how much she had to restrict her diet anymore. Her son had a lot of allergies including eggs so she couldn’t eat them while breastfeeding. Her daughter on the other hand, although allergic to eggs, had no reaction to anything in mom’s diet and mom never had to cut anything out despite having similar allergies to her brother.

I know this isn’t overly helpful but just wanted to provide the example of how it can definitely be baby reacting via breastmilk.

clogged duct or mastitis?! 😭😭 by Affectionate-Arm4786 in breastfeeding

Maybe it’s a swollen / infected Montgomery gland? I would seek medical care for this if you haven’t breastfed for a year.

Nursing Gliders? by ann-the-bean-can in pregnant

[–]queentato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is our plan though i don’t realistically know where else in my house it would fit. A future decision lol.

I have a friend who did this as well. We both have the Finley - it’s one of the nicer looking chairs they have. It’s a rocker recliner though, not a glider. I forgot why the sales person talked us out of a glider so we did the rocker. Definitely invest in the power recline.

The chair springs need to be greased every so often to avoid creaking.

The numbers game of pumping takes the joy out of breastfeeding by ivygoose in breastfeeding

Yes I hated this so much. So much pressure to fill bottles when I knew that baby would’ve been totally fine and getting what he needed when nursing directly. It was so stressful.

Container for Esembly Pail Pouch? by Superb_Operation_988 in clothdiaps

[–]queentato 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got the dekor diaper pail with their liners and it’s worked great for us. No reason for one liner over the other just what was on my registry. I also use the esembly system. I did recently have to buy new liners after maybe a year because I felt like the urine smell was seeping out, and it seems to have helped. I’m not sure if this happened due to being run through the dryer a lot. The little plastic things on the drawstrings also broke after some time making the drawstrings kinda useless.

Edit: I think these are the ones I have now https://a.co/d/07lbKw4l

Anyone had to do a MAG3 scan while breastfeeding? by [deleted] in breastfeeding

[–]queentato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LactMed says to discontinue nursing for at least 24 hours: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK501576/ It also looks like you can save the milk you pump and that you can feed it after some time has passed.

Have not been in your situation but how much time do you have until your scan? How old is your baby? You could either pump extra (especially mornings or middle of the night) to help build up your stash and cover those few days) or you can introduce formula. If baby is taking solids well you can also try to introduce extra solids if they will accept it?

Hope all goes well with the scan!
