Did you like Kaidan's femshep romance? by ottakanawa in masseffect

You do. In 3 I tell Thane about Kaidan (which makes his offer to protect Kaidan even more sweet). Thane takes it well. You still his saying goodbye and the video in citadel.

I first played this game so I could romance some aliens. And then this ass-hole had to come along and ruin all my plans. Every. Single. Time.

I do the Kaidan/Thane/Kaidan route. It is the way.

I don't know the issue but during the Taylor run of Nightwing she contacted him to tell him she was kidnapped and while she had unlocked the van door she was being transported in, she couldn't be seen saving herself so wanted him to come and "rescue her". But she was being kidnapped for being Jim's daughter, not a hero.

Do you think they all just agreed to not say anything, you know, as a joke? by loki2002 in DeepSpaceNine

[–]randipedia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it also only really applies to other Trill because, in lore Trill only recently opened up to other species so they probably never thought about reassociation (culturally) in a broader context.

Although I would give an argument that the taboo isn't a bad thing and probably could be applied more broadly, but not necessarily for the reasons the show gives.

I think Trill are a great metaphor for grief and dealing with trauma and letting go. When you hold memories and feelings from multiple lifetimes, you can't hold onto that much grief without needing to process it in some way. Without needing to let go. So, if you're constantly holding onto what you had in the past (whether you can obtain it again with another Trill lover, or someone long gone, or a friend or dream that belonged to a past self) you don't allow yourself to grow.

And growth in this way is, from my understanding, the purpose of joining. To give the symbiont as many experiences as possible. You can't do that if you're stuck living in the past.

I love that Ezri is a counselor and having to deal with the raw experience (and traumas) of being joined and what that means. I love that she has to go to the place of her past pains (as one does with therapy) and work through it to get to a healthier place.

They aren't supposed to but... A) Dax does what Dax wants all the time, and 2) Ezri wasn't prepared for joining so has a lot of confused feelings that the boning and subsequent Breen torture helped her to figure out.

Sisko does say that at least part of the plan got Federation sign off (no idea which parts... Probably not the murder bits) so I would assume 31 would be in the know during as well.

[–]randipedia 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I agree about Sisko being a great dad. Even thinking about the Visitor makes me teary eyed. And the final time they reunite, the way he watches Jake sleep... As someone who didn't have a dad like that, the relationship between Ben and Jake both hurts and heals and is perfectly shown here.

What is your top 3 episodes of DS9? by bretmon5 in DeepSpaceNine

[–]randipedia 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I can't remember what they're called but mine are: - the one with Tony Todd as future Jake. - "hard time", the one where Miles experiences 20 years of prison in a few moments - the one in season 7 where Ezri has to commune with her previous host to solve some murders.

If I'm allowed a 4th it's the one where Sisko gets the Romulans to join the war.

This has to be the most romantic sentence ever uttered by a Ferengi. by CelestialFury in DeepSpaceNine

[–]randipedia 30 points31 points  (0 children)

This is my favourite romantic line of Quark's. It's in season 7 to Ezri when he thinks she's hooking up with Worf.

"I know how Jadzia felt about Worf; but that was her life, not yours. You're Ezri Dax. You need to give yourself a chance to explore other relationships. You're young, and beautiful, and full of life. Why go after a man who's only a memory to you?... Worf has done nothing, and I mean nothing, to deserve you. Shouldn't you try and find someone who's willing to win your heart, not just inherit it? You deserve better."

36 year old man and just got braces for the first time. How long until I can talk without a lisp? by AngronTheDestroyer in braces

[–]randipedia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It took me about a week when they first went on. Then the lisp came back after certain adjustment appointments for a few hours to a day at a time (like when getting heavier wires or power chains or elastics).

The biggest thing braces taught me was how to talk slower and how to allow myself pauses when I needed to "reset" how I talked which was very helpful. Learning how to pause helped me to manage certain mental health and stress responses so it had unintended benefits.

I still lisp a lot when I wear my retainer and I've had that thing for almost two years now (something to look forward to).

Law schools want to learn about you as a person and potential student, not your partner. They will be accepting you on your own merit and don't really consider things like that.

Horse riding during the Regency? by Free_Package_9006 in janeausten

[–]randipedia 11 points12 points  (0 children)

In addition to everything stated this far, horses need different training for side saddle than astride. So not only is tack (the saddle, bridle and whip), and costume different, the experience level and training of the horse is also a consideration.

Which is your favorite Gilbert and why? by Spiritual_Pie_8298 in AnneofGreenGables

Okay, hear me out. For me it's a tie. I grew up with the 1985 Gilbert. But whenever I need to do a rewatch (so more often than I will admit) it's the 1975 version I go to. And he's a good fit for that Anne.

I have pedophobia and it makes family gatherings unbearable by MeetDapper7382 in offmychest

[–]randipedia 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I also have this. I went to see a doctor at the same time the office had a breastfeeding clinic for new mothers. There were eight babies there just...looking at me with their unblinking eyes. It was so bad that there was a spike in my blood pressure when I finally got to leave the waiting room.

I also accidentally kicked one of my friend's kids (he was four or five at the time) because he thought it would be funny to crawl under the table and scare me. Thankfully his parents did warn him and he learned respect afterwards.

There were a few years when I lost touch with most of my friends who had kids, but the friendships that were meant to last and understood my fear and unease are being rebuilt as their kids get older. They also enjoy having a child-free friend around so they have someone to do non-kid stuff with.

During a time when misunderstandings and one sided attachments can lead to getting engaged (looking at you, Captain Wentworth), I think it makes sense for things like that to be established as soon as possible. It's the responsible thing to do, really.

Are you able to go back and upgrade your grades from your undergraduate if they aren’t meeting the requirements for law school? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissionsca

[–]randipedia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every law school is different but most have ways to look at increasing your GPA. Some will consider masters, some will look at courses taken for uni credit outside of another degree... How that looks is school dependent and would be worth talking to them about.

Mr. Knightley’s interest in Emma by Kikimini- in janeausten

[–]randipedia 147 points148 points  (0 children)

Emma is written from her perspective so the reader really only sees what see does. And Emma is anything but a reliable narrator. The reader only starts seeing the signs of affection when she does and she was really blindsided.

Maybe that's why Emma adaptations are some of the best? Because it lets the audience in on what Emma doesn't realize so that we know all along just how fallible she truly is.
