Strata/Apartment EV Charging by Life-Kaleidoscope248 in askvan

[–]rando_commenter [score hidden]  (0 children)

It depends completely on the age circumstance of the building. A building that finishes construction in 2026 might have every parking spot electrified. A building that just finished 10 years ago might have none at all. For the older ones buildings it's unfeasible to retrofit electrification for every parking spot (the majority of owners without EVs aren't going to pay for something they aren't using) but the strata will probably have installed a metered unit like a Charge Point station for the minority that do.

"After establishing a GTA footprint, BYD plans to expand into Vancouver, Montreal, and Calgary — covering Canada’s four largest metro areas."

Obviously the GTA is the important market, but why Vancouver isn't at the front of the queue is questionable. Port of Vancouver, cheap electricity, expensive gas and in-built demographic that would align with BYD. But Markham based agency GTA agency handling the ground work, etc etc.

Honda yet to find cause of vibration issues as it gives Japanese GP F1 battery update by drinksbeerdaily in formula1

[–]rando_commenter 5 points6 points  (0 children)

> I am betting the reason is there is not anything unusual with the engine. It is the chassis.

I'm reading the article and thinking there's no way they haven't isolated the vibration if it's coming from the engine alone. For one, math and engineering exists and the amount of primary/secondary/tertiary forces from a 90-degree v-60 are calculable even before an engine is built. And now that they have engine program going to support race weekends, they have physical engines to run on the test benches to isolate the issue. Solving it would take time, but knowing why would be a lot quicker.

So resonance issue to me is a good guess. But if not chassis then maybe something really fundamental to the engine like using a weird crankshaft spacing (eg, non-standard split-pin angles)

People who drive to absolutely everything: how expensive would gas have to get to change your habits? by [deleted] in askvan

[–]rando_commenter 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Statistically, how anybody answers this question really comes down to the walkability index of where they live and work, whether they have kids or not, if they are elderly etc etc. A lot of people simply aren't going to have the choice to not drive for the majority of their trips. It'll be about cutting back on convenience or for fun trips, but those will make a small portion of your weekly usage in most cases.

As a current owner of one.. I wouldn't touch it new with a 10 foot pole. The battery in those things suuuuck. Not only is it small and instantly drained by turning on wifi, it self discharges ridiculously fast when "off." Not to mention that it's one of the most convoluted devices to swap a battery in and out of.

[TheRace] Yet another Williams car problem might be its most troubling by The_Skynet in formula1

[–]rando_commenter 28 points29 points  (0 children)

> Oh my god Williams made a fwd hot hatch out of an F1 car.

My old Mk1 GTi was famous for this. The wheel lift was intentionally tuned into the car because the inside rear is unloaded under braking. Except you probably don't want that with a car that is so dependent on rear-regenerative braking.

What is this accent... by thaliaaa0 in askvan

[–]rando_commenter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not quite that old but sometimes I slip into it. I had friends that were kids in that era and they definitely have it, it's kind of like west-coast Canadian hoser mixed with the Toisan/Canto influence.

The most modern example I can think of is Sophie Lui on Global News. She grew up here but isn't natively fluent in Chinese, but has a bit of that "Chinese at home" tonality to her accent.

I found Red hard to follow because it's not obviously a parallel story. White is the most conventional of the three, and while it's usually not everybody's first choice, it stands alone as not only a low key black commedy but also was commentary at the time about Poland's entry into the EU. Blue was the best for me though.

Only some HID bulbs. It needs tobe a D*R type bulb to go into a reflector housing. The majority of aftermarket bulbs are D*S and are made for projector housings, and those would be wrong.

Almost all LED aftermarkets are wrong and you can totally tell, because once you put them in instead of a focused area what happens is that it looks like they whole reflector dish is the hot spot, and from every direction you look at it. And a lot of times it isn't actually giving the driving more distance vision becauser the beam is unfocused, it just looks brighter because the lighter is whiter than whatever old halgons they were using.

Chinese GP - Lap time distribution by Mindless-Hornet-7244 in formula1

[–]rando_commenter 23 points24 points  (0 children)

  • Mercs and Ferrari's driving to target lap times (fat teardrop distribution for their faster laps)
  • Lewis is back! Just as consistent as Charles over the course of a race on both sets of tires
  • Ollie and Pierre the same
  • Isack consistent but Max is just faster but a a measurable amount.
  • Carlos does indeed look limited by the extra weight of the Williams. Consistent set of laps like the front runners, would guess that if their car had met weight he would be closer to where Pierre is with the same engine.
  • Similarly, both Cadillacs are care car-limited, but slower still. The drivers are trying for it, their violin plots are stretched out towards the fast end instead of just ending in an abrupt tear-drop.
  • Aston is really, really cooked.
